Think that's what the grimoire cards are for....

And I didn't mind the opening story, and I know it's just opinions but in no why would I describe it as beyond boring, not even close....(not aimed at you btw)....
Yes, but those are on Bungie.net and the app. I want this stuff in the game. I want stories told by wandering travelers. I want the environment to tell me stories. I want audio logs. I want records to tell me of the world of old. The cards aren't a bad solution, they just aren't super well implemented.

You guys sure play/write a lot about Destiny for having such a terrible time. Want to relinquish your Gaf clan admin status VisceralBowl? We'd hate to make a masochist out of you.
As I have stated. I don't dislike the game. I want to enjoy it, and I do (sometimes). I overhyped myself with the initial vidocs for sure. This game just didn't end up being what I expected, and has some pretty big flaws in my eyes.

Also, I happen to love the PVP portion of this game a lot. The game suffers where in the areas it seems to be pushing the hardest.

Not true, the moon is just a teaser for launch. Old Russia is the only playable map in beta. There are several more story missions than there were in the alpha, though.
At least until after maintenance and all the teases that Bungie have been doing for what happens towards the end of the beta...

phew, well finally got in and played to lvl 4.

PS3 is like 3DS mode! Grainy as hell, but I'll be on PS4 by the time it ships and I can deal for as long as the beta lasts.

If they ship last gen like this, I have to wonder why they even bothered. It's silly how grainy it is! I could never recommend it to someone like that.

It's really just a tease tho, seeing how you can't pass level 8. Beta disapointed me in the lack of content honestly.

For perspective, their Halo Reach beta started with two multiplayer maps and less than a handful of gametypes. The only additional content they added to that were two new gametypes and maps several days later...and that lasted for two weeks.

Wouldn't have suspected much more than that. I'd have liked to visit somewhere other than Old Russia (especially given that moon tease), but as far as content goes, the Destiny Beta has a fair amount. I suppose the reason it feels like less is because they have blocked some stuff from the alpha (which I imagine they'll roll out over time). It feels like the venders are selling less.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Only got up to level 3, but my main takeaway so far is I am so sorry to last gen users. Outdoor areas are some of the ugliest things I've seen on the PS3. I am really curious to see a tech breakdown of it, as it's insanely blurry, jaggy, shadows are shimmering, and grass/trees clearly pop in while you're moving around. Fuckin' hell, I am not playing the beta on this anymore, lol.

Just out of interest, but in the final game, will old Russia be the only earth location (other than the tower)?

I'm sure it can't just be old Russia can it??

My impressions so far. :)

Pros:

• The game is really challenging on harder difficulties.
• The enemy AI is really good from time to time.
• The controls are pretty much flawless.
• The UI is one of the best I've seen.
• Graphics are beautiful.
• Guns feel good.
• Sound was surprisingly good (especially with a surround headset).
• Running into other players and joining their adventures is very fun.
• The Crucible is very addicting.

Cons:

• FoV slider could be added.
• Loading times are a bit excessive.
• The story seems a bit primitive and generic.
• Your character seems oddly OK with everything that happens.
• No beards (seriously!)
• Please let me rotate my character in character customization.
• A skip option for the opening tutorial perhaps?

Woah, the editor is so awesome, i'm truly proud of my albino alien warlock girl.
The lore is nothing but stunning, but i just wished the game would run at 60fps... :/

Does anyone know how weapon unlocks and PvP work? If i use a 59 attack Scout Rifle will it perform the same as a 29 attack or is it all stat based? (ex: Farm a high RoF scout rifle)

Some of you guys need to stop complaining about how the Beta only has Old Russia. Bungie is still being very generous by opening it up to the public at all. This isn't a demo for the game, it is a stage of development. This isn't supposed to be a free game from Bungie, it is a test to make sure there aren't glitches in the system and to see if there are minor improvements that can be made.

So be glad you have a big Earth map, with several story missions, a strike, free roam, fireteams, PVP multiplayer, loot, leveling, and all the maps we have. We've got glimpses now at a pretty nice, and extremely limited chunk of the game and you are all complaining wildly that it isn't enough. How about we do our part and learn the game while scoping glitches to make this the best experience we can come September, instead of griping that we don't have enough to do in a closed off section of the development process?

I am enjoying it a lot, having a bunch of fun with my friends and I am meeting a lot of new people and getting a chance to play a game that isn't coming out for months. We aren't entitled to more for any reason, we should just be enjoying our opportunity and helping out Bungie while we do it. Called a beta for a reason, guys.

PS3 looks absolutely fine, IMO. Playing on ps3 too for now, will be playing ps4 in November, but I'd say anyone with a ps3 is going to be fine playing this.

Yeah I don't even get the point of that shit. We know it's in the game, why put that there.
I came here to ask about this. So it's really just a tease? Pretty lame.

I have a feeling that they would have missions on it after the maintenance shutdown. That way it doesn't get spoiled before xbox folk get to play it. Wishful thinking, but I don't see any other point of showing the moon alone and leaving other planets.

Felt the same. Really enjoying the bump up in difficulty and loving the guns. Wish there was more loot though, most loot chests just give out measly amounts of glimmer.

There is way less glimmer rewarded for quests than there was in the alpha.

I can't believe none of my friends are playing on either playstation platform. Might be time to find a new crew.

@DeathJr

Enjoyed the bump up in difficulty also. The AI had preferme using my "spider sense" which is great at times when it happens. While fighting the Devil Walker, in my preferred spot, something told me to turn around and check for mobs. Sure as shit, they were flanking behind me. Not many games do this at all for me, so, when it happened, thought it was a nice touch.

I thought it was obvious they were going to unlock the two missions you see on the moon as the beta goes on. Why would would they even bother showing us it otherwise?

Compared to the alpha this has way too much content in Old Russia. I expected some new stuff compared to the beta that's not just 5 minute story ' missions '.

It's more marketing than a stage of development. Sure they are testing the waters with the servers and all that but they won't change soo much about the final game.

I am happy with two extra pvp maps, but I was hoping for a strike or explore on the moon. Why is that tease even in the beta? We all know you are going to visit those planets in the full game. Arghhhhh

Yeah totally just opinions, but I don't know if I've played a game before that's done so little to get me invested and set-up what I'm doing. The grimoire cards might be cool, but I don't personally want to read cards as a means of developing the story.

Here's the issues I have with the game's intro (and first three missions):
- Overall, the story feels thin and fragmented so far.
- The Ghost mentions that he brought me back from the dead, but how, why, etc. isn't really explained.
- The missions feel mundane. I just kind of find a ship I can use, and then...bam...at The Tower. Short cut scene ensues that briefly references some 'Darkness' coming, and then I'm told to just go and help the cause. Um, OK...I guess?
- Now I'm off trying to upgrade my ship without any setup and just killing a bunch of enemies that are there. Not sure who they are, where they're from, etc.

The visuals in the PS4 beta looks much better then in the Alpha version.

You think so? Looks pretty much identical to me.

I actually found the character to be extremely underwhelming. I expect there to be more options by launch though.

But seriously, that was the quickest I've ever made a character in anything... at least the human choices where underwhelming.

And for the love of god they better freeaking have a decent selection of black hairstyles.

I don't want a bald character. but I don't wan't a super huge afro....

Yeah I'm thinking the chest loot that we see now is a place holder. It seems strange that so many chests would only give you a small amount of glimmer.

A chest should always include a gear piece in my opinion. It could be a bad piece, but It should be there.

I'm liking the game as a cooperative thingy but the competitive mode so far is really underwhelming. I guess for me it's a combination of being an FPS on console, DS4 being really sucky controller, the framerate, and some weapons that don't really feel balanced. I'll give it another go see if I warm up to it but it's not as interesting as the rest of the game so far.

I have to admit that I was pretty baked yesterday BUT am I the only one how found the main story "cheap"?

It's not that I don't like the game but maaaaan this just felt so generic, cliched and boring.

This makes me check my privilege.

Seriously though, hair styles for black characters seem to only go bald or afro, with the occasional cornrows. Sucks.
