Destiny Box Art Revealed and new trailer tomorrow 10/01/13

Ah, the tease about a location fans were wanting to see makes sense now.

Back in the EGM reveal for Halo 2, for the version that was eventually scrapped, Bungie talked about low-gravity combat on the moon.
Not to mention how awesome dat moon warthog looked.

I'd never thought to ask this, but do we know if X1 games will ship in traditional blu-ray sized boxes now? Or is MS going to stick with DVD boxes just to differentiate themselves from Sony?

I imagine MS will adopt the Blu-ray sized case, in order to emphasise the console's BD compatibility.

Yeah. I mean, I can see why the marketing machine deemed it unfit, something to do with not communicating enough about the game, it's action, or it's characters. But then, the official box art doesn't do that either because they have their friggin' backs turned to you.

On the other hand it's bold and distinct and emphasises the scale of the game and its lore, as well as the heavy sci-fi elements. The other one just looks like all other shooty games; you could barely tell it's meant to be sci-fi were it not for the Master Chief/Bobba Fett-style helmets. I really think there's so much more mystery and intrigue from that first image, and were I in the shop knowing nothing about the game I'd be much more inclined to pick it up and take a look. But, marketing has probably spoken and has statistics which prove the average COD fan is 33% more likely to pick up a game case if there's a dude with a gun on the cover.

After 33 years of gaming, I'm pretty sick of gunmen covers.
Is someone still thinking a gun on the cover is going to sell better than any minimalist/artsy cover? The US media market is ruled by the cult of death and weapons but what about the rest of the world??
Since 8bits I remember shump and platform games with armed people on the cover while their amazing japanese counterparts had a completely different approach.
Did nothing change in damn 30 years?????

Looked good back then. Looks good today.

It still kind of made it into the game on Cairo Station, but the time you spent with it was so short. :(

Should be awesome, I'm really looking forward to the beta. Too bad about the box art, but you can't win 'em all, eh?
I wonder how the balance will be with the moon environment. I wanna bunny hop all over thing thing, though I'm sure the indoors areas will feature normal gravity.

Also: I hope footprints stick around for a while on the moon.

I still want that damn snow hog. :(

Based on my past observations, I believe they start at 9am. I could be wrong.

I'm sure it varies by day and department and crunch/non crunch, etc. But they're on the west coast. As a general rule we don't start the day at 8:00 over here.

A bit dissappointed with the trailer, maybe because the music wasn't that good. But at least we got the spring release info, yay!

No, that always sucked. Unless you are american.

I was talking about this cover (Cabela Spider Hunting anyone?)

not to mention THIS version of MegaMan according to the friendly neighbours of the NRA

I mean, you can't teach taste. Taste is something that grows inside a culture. If it's not there, it will never be there, but heck, can someone at least find some alternatives to weapons to attract possible buyers?

is there any vehicular gameplay in this game? That's what made Halo stand out IMO. The vehicular combat in that series was so well executed...no other FPS came close to it.

All we have seen in Destiny is infantry combat :(

If you've seen the E3 Demo, there were bunch of players on a sci-fi bike or whatever you wanna call it when the Public Event started.

I'm happy this hits in the Spring but I would've thought Bungie would have been better served by waiting for the inevitable Summer drought. It is bad enough with an established generation, let alone a debut year. They would dominate sales as a lone release.

Both will release in Spring.

A hypothetical example: Beta would release in March. The full game would release at April/May.

ok, thanks, i hope the beta releases way after infamous, and then full game in June? so by then i will catch up with every game on ps4

Folks, the full game is what is releasing in "Spring 2014". The beta will be opened in "Early 2014".

Ah. If that's the case, then that's good. I somewhat thought that the beta will release in Spring 2014 along with the full gamer in later Spring 2014.

Some of the confusion is due to the fact that Bungie hasn't provided a release timeframe, from what I've seen. The title of their beta news story on b.net is "Destiny BETA - Early 2014", so that piece is clear. The only place I've seen the game release as being in spring was that tweet a few posts up.

Ah, of course. I've read that news piece before. In any case, beta releasing in early 2014 is very good, but I still think Bungie should clear the confusion from some people very soon.

The trailer that was released like a week ago says "Become Legend - Spring 2014" at the end. It seems pretty clear, but you're not the first person I've seen confused about it.

Ah, that's probably where the confusion originated. The trailer was released concurrent with the beta announcement, and people took the tag at the end of the trailer to be about the beta. I missed that tag at the end of the trailer and so wasn't clear where the spring talk came from. Thanks.

That Bungie left the release time frame out of the news announcement entirely probably didn't help.
Both bungie and activision have confirmed a spring release.

If they did outside the trailer, got a link?

Dave Candland tweeted it would launch this Spring. The beta is more or less a server stress test from what I gather.
