Huh? You think it's much harder to get a respectable weapon that suits your taste in Destiny? That there's more loot than in Borderlands? What?

There aren't even the same amount of base weapons in Destiny as there are in borderlands 1 even.

BL 1 you have: Eridian weapons, SMGs, Semi-auto Rifles, Burst Rifles, Full-auto Rifles, Light machine guns, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, rocket launchers, Semi-auto pistols, Machine pistols, Revolvers and all of these have wildly different stats and elemental types(which makes a huge difference) whenever you find them so there are thousands of possible permutations.

Destiny you have: Semi-auto Rifles, Revolvers. Burst rifles, auto-rifles, sniper rifles, revolvers, shotguns, sniper rifles, fusion rifle, rocket launcher, Light machine gun. All of these can have different perks and have a handful of base firing types(e.g. A Sahara auto-rifle will always have a massive clip and shoot really fast with high recoil) which gives hundreds of permutations and you'll frankly barely notice the element that your weapon is shooting.

I don't understand your point. You may not like Borderlands personally, but a lot of people seem to be making this mental leap here saying that Borderlands co-op was worse than Destiny co-op, when Destiny's co-op would have a hard time beating a game like Warframe.

I didn't say that, Borderlands has much more loot, but the novelty of looting in Borderlands wears off really quick. That's not the case with Destiny, when you get armor and weapons and stuff, you feel like you earned it, in Borderlands every npc gives you something.

in my opinion, Destiny loot is better for those who like to feel rewarded.

Why is Destiny so stingy with character animations and cutscenes? There've been 3 loading screens thus far where the Ghost quotes someone, plays a recording, or sends a transmission when I'd rather (at the very least) see my character in the same room with the person talking to me. Even if it meant having to go to the tower to pick up the mission!

Yes, but it's really annoying and I think it involves wiping your Vita memory card or using a spare.
I'll look for a link.

^^ That shit is hard to read.
Basically you need to create a psn account apart from your main that you have on both your vita and ps4. You then start remote play and can use the DS4 since the vita is controlling the other account, that is not actually playing a game.

Wow. Thanks very much for the research, I didn't expect it to be such a convoluted process. I'll see what I can do. Since the Vita only allows one account I'm not sure if I am willing to wipe.

Playing Destiny coming off of playing the Metro Redux games is so jarring. In those games you're practically funneled down a tunnel, and I still feel like there was more exploration in those games than what's in Destiny. Not to mention how much more fleshed out the world and lore is of the Metro games.

i wonder if bungie's plan is to continue the 'story' through DLC and expansions. i haven't finished it yet so i don't know if it 'resolves' itself currently, but i'd imagine that it's an ongoing thing.

Man just finished the daily heroic quest.. that was intense..those cloaked melee dudes almost oneshot me..3 attempts and then hurrah... endgame is so much better than the story

"But better since the loot in Destiny is much harder to get" were your words. But in either case, if people don't like Borderlands and love destiny co-op that's an opinion. They have differences, I just don't see any differences that are actually positive on Destiny's side of things.

yup, been doing the strike playlist, really enjoying it

So has anyone gotten a gun / armor that's better than the blue quality? I've been watching some streams trying to decide if I should buy this for last gen, and I have not seen any of the lvl 20+ people with anything other than blue gear.

If there is a good wiki or list or something that would be great! Thanks.

if you want to hipfire, find this weapon. infuckingcredible. i don't even use ADS mid-range anymore.

That was my baby in the beta...you better be taking care of it.

I've finished it and I'm not even sure if it's resolved.

Too busy playing it, and I love it as usual. Not played it much tonight (Final Stand got me in the mood for BF 4) but I can see myself putting hours upon hours playing it. Already feeling addicted. Bungie have sucked me in.

Does Bungie understand how colors work? Like in Crucible whenever you get a kill your name displays in blue. When you are capping a flag the flag turns blue.

Blue was ahead in the game but blue was the other team when I look at the scoreboard. So damn amateur hour.

A minor annoyance but wtf guys.

It's hilarious how much this thread has slowed down post-release :p

my setup doesn't really allow me to post and play at the same time, and i imagine that's the case for many others. not that there aren't disappointed people who've jumped ship, but it's still hardly much to go by

I don't know man. Circle strafe the boss fight.

looks fun to me but I also like Destiny battles that's my point I don't understand your comment about Destiny being so much worse.

Level design, lack of diverse objectives is where Destiny is so much worse in my opinion. Doesn't help that there are several times the number of bosses in Borderlands(unless you count named wizzards with pumped up health boss fights).

ok, played a fair few hours now and have finished the story content for the moon, some impressions, mostly from playing solo on the "campaign":

- Core gunplay is solid and the mix of powers gives it just a little bit of freshness.

- Difficulty balance seems to be an issue, it's nothing to do with intelligent level design or AI just a combination of number of enemies against number of players and their level. being just 1 level under on some missions solo is an exercise in sheer tedium. Moreso I felt this in the earlier stages though on earth actually, the later ones on the moon actually weren't as bad.

- Level design is plain and the AI is really dumb, and it's with nothing but sheer waves and amount of enemies providing the challenge by attrition not the enemies intelligence- at times I feel I'm closer to playing a horde mode than anything else.
(there was a point where I just got really tired in one level and just ran past everyone to the objective and nothing managed to stop me; got to the boss of the level and killed it no problem)

- Story is completely, mindboggling terribly told. I'm flabbergasted at how bad it is when Bungie clearly went to alot of effort to craft this universe... Yet they forgot to make an actual story.

- I hate Peter Dinkalge in this, I'm sorry he's so dry and dull. It's hard to care when he obviously doesn't. And for anyone that says "he's a robot - of course he sounds monotone!" watch Kevin Spacey in Moon and see how much better that performance is for the same type of character.

- Repetitive mission design, it's always just "get to point, deploy Ghost, kill waves of enemies, repeat" The sword mission on the moon at least gave me a much needed breath of fresh air.

- Lastly, grind. I'm sorry but I hate grinding and telling me to go grind some levels before getting to the next planet is a surefire way of just pissing me off tbh.

Yeah, I'm not very happy, only thing I really can say is I like the gunplay, I guess on a base level I get the satisfaction of shooting things in an FPS from Destiny. Hardly worth the hype.

I have approached this entire game with the idea that this is my story. So I can go and explore things on my own or with friends, do some PvP or solve the mystery of what is going on. It's all up to me. I don't need a bunch of dialogue or interesting characters. Listening to gaffers and my friends exceeds anything any Dev could create. The game's story is the backdrop, not the motivation of anything. There are since people that will do nothing other than PvP, that's fine. Some won't bother with PvP, that's also fine. You make your story and set your own objectives. The game isn't perfect, but goodness, the game was never meant to be about the story. It is all about your experiences

That's great and all, but they released a game that includes an attempt at a story. That means the story is open to criticism.

Just got to the very first Moon Mission damn I love it when the enemies pour out and that music kicks in. It gets me hyped. Saved my super for that very moment and as soon as the enemies started pouring out I unleashed it and felt so damn good.

Anyone wanna add me on PS3: voa127

Keep in mind though I'm mediocre at PVP though.

Omg another ps3 user!! I'm blue_phazon1337

Warframe has better co-op.

Warframe is one of the most repetitive games ever made. And the proper bad kind of repetition because the core gameplay is just an unintelligent spam-fest.

The combat is nowhere near as finely honed as Destiny's, all the modes are different shades of one another, there is no meaningful endgame...

It doesn't even come close.

Just started for an hour or so yesterday, just wanted to verify from what I've read: 10-15 hours for single player? Does that mean doing all the optional missions? Do more missions keep opening up at higher levels after the game is over for better weapons, etc.?

I'm baffled by this game, they nailed the gunplay and art direction for most of it. But the core hooks that I was hoping for to keep me interested are so lackluster here. The loot is pretty boring and uninspired and there's definitely no feeling of exploration whatsoever. The story is so much worse than even Halo, the writing is seriously awful and I never complain about a bit of a hammy story. Multiplayer is ok but not really good enough to keep me hooked, there's just no excuse for the barebones feel this game gives. I was expecting something on a whole different scale and what I got feels smaller than Halo. Don't forget Halo had great co-op too, I feel like people are attributing all this interesting stuff to Destiny while I feel like it barely does anything different.

100% this. How I feel.

Back to metro redux for me.

The best way for me to describe my issue with the game as a whole is that the environments are like a diorama where you can see them and never truly interact with them.

There should be more to the game besides the combat, progression, and pulling ghost out to put him into objects.

The game certainly isn't bad, but the PvE stuff tends to get repetitive after a while with the only change between the areas being the skyboxes.
I just expect more from Bungie as whole, I guess. The game feels too safe and sterile.

Well, probably a bit late to get a good group going, but if anyone on PS4 wants another Fireteam member, my PSN is Arrrammis. I'll pretty much run whatever, so shoot me an invite!

Fair enough, but people should really be made aware of the fact that they should stay the hell away from Destiny if they want an at least passable single player experience. You are absolutely right, there isn't one.

I have mainly solo'd the game and I am loving it. I don't do co-op because I am constantly having to step away to help out the kids, the wife, etc. It is totally possible to enjoy this game solo as long as the exploration, combat and loot appeals to you. It does for me and I can't wait to play some more after work tonight!

BTW, I also spent 40+ hours on the game between the alpha and the beta. The formula is perfect for me.

He mailed in his performance. A shame, really.

I really don't want to get into this too much because I'm afraid I'll be way too harsh on the game due to my massive disappointment. I will make a separate thread at some point about it, but for now this is my opinion: think about what a player might be looking for in a single player campaign. An interesting story, a compelling narrative, good pacing, decent dialogue and lore, good presentation, interesting characters and maybe some surprises along the way. Destiny single player has none of that. It's formulaic, boring, barebones and flimsy. It's as if a third-rate studio tried to create a Mass Effect knock-off and predictably failed. The single player content is way below the level of other sci-fi action games including Bungie's own Halo. Furthermore the game suffers in the gameplay department since enemy AI is mediocre to bad (see Giant Bomb's quick look, it's embarrassing at times). And I don't really understand why the existence of other players was so important to delay reviews for, they really offer nothing substantial to the overall experience.

With what I've seen so far, reviews are not going to be pretty.

Does the paywall have anything to do with this perception. In other words, if every player had the option to enter each mission including the ones behind the paywall, would your perspective change?

I find this controversy weird. I understand how someone can get bored with grinding for a weapon or armor. However, it seems fun while you're doing it. Do you think the inclusion of a new game plus mode could improve your impression of the game?

My main concern going into the game is that the world is empty. This is possibly chocked up to developing for last gen platforms. Maybe Destiny 2 has NPCs, better mission structure, and more options to explore the galaxy. I'm looking forward this review score because all the opinions I see are split between disasterbation and solid AAA title.

No way is Warframe better co-op wise. The core of that game just feels so boring...especially the gunplay/environments.

Warframe has diverse co-op objectives, from escort missions to oxygen hunting. The powers of the various warframes can compliment each other greatly, everyone can have a massively different role(Where in this you either get an AOE attack, 3 shot pistol or a shield).
