Ugh. Wouldn't the sense of discovery and exploration be greatly enhanced by putting it in the world to find? Am I taking crazy pills or is that a no-brainer?

Also doesn't help that (for me at least using firefox) the grimoire cards section on bungie.net runs like shit. Super laggy, very janky, unresponsive etc. Just all around bad. Makes looking up any kinda of interesting lore or story info tedious as fuck.

It's such a shame as what you do get about the universe seems super cool and interesting. The Traveller, the golden age, the Exo and Awoken, space magic, the different alien races.

Imagine if bungie took the Metroid Prime route of revealing the lore of Destiny...

I'd take any sort of "in world" story telling. Find something interesting (what would normally be a data/audio log or collectable) have the Ghost pipe up and give a lore dump or something.

What are the main differences between the classes?
I choose hunter but don't know what I got myself into.
Ingame I don't see differences in playstyle compared to my friends who opted for other classes?

Look into talent synergies. Striker Titan (the class I play) are very very good in CQC. We can get a shield after sprinting for a short while or a should charge for more damage. We get alot of crowd control with our flashbang grenade. Melee hit can refresh grenade faster and have a chance not to go on cooldown.

Defender Titan gain a shield when they kill something with their melee ability, their super skill create a big bubble that is indestructible and is generaly a very defensive oriented subclasses.

Otherwise in PVP Titan have slightly more healh, Warlock regen faster and Hunter move faster (very slightly)

Wow Bungie definitely doesn't help break the "bald space marine" cliche by including all these fucken dumb hair styles for males in this game. All of them look like toupees.

I redeemed all those 25 codes that were floating around but on the game I've only been given like 3 emblems and no shaders. Where are the rest?

If they gave you a scan visor which revealed all the Grimoire stuff and other aspects of the universe in the game instead of having to go to a website, that would have been awesome.

That sounds amazing.

Really, step one should be making the Grimoire accessible in-game (have they ever given a justification for why it isn't?), but adding a scan option would be great.

That strikes me as something Activision would've had a hand in. Keep the game as open to casual gamers as possible by keeping a lore-heavy story out of it.

Now I'm gonna do exactly what I didn't want to do: write a lengthy diatribe!

Not really.

That, right there, is absolutely no excuse for anything. You can too have a good story that isn't very lore-heavy. It's not exactly difficult to do. Hell, I have lore-heavy worlds that I want to put into my own games, but I know exactly how I'm going to tell their story in a way that's entertaining and fun to play.

And I'm only gonna be 19 on the 26th of this month.

That's definitely the frustrating part; you actually unlock the content in the game (by encountering new enemies, finding Ghosts, picking up gear, etc.) but you can't read any of the details inside the game. So instead of absorbing the lore, I end up just skimming the text, since the website provides an info dump when going through all the cards. Also, not every card has lore, so you basically have to go through each one to figure out if there's anything worthwhile. A big dropped ball if you ask me.

Otherwise, I've been mostly enjoying my time with the game. Ran into a couple of the random events and it reminded me of the World Events in Guild Wars II. Also teamed up with a random who was really nice and made good conversation, which I was kind of shocked at. First time I've used voice chat on a console in a long while.

Thank you Gaf for all the responses!. I'm going to dive in tonight or tomorrow morning (depending on if the girlfriend hogs the TV tonight).

Looking forward to creating my Titan :)

Yeah, sounds like something they'd do. Still, though, I thought this was supposed to be Bungie's magnum opus? The whole reason they left MS was because they weren't being given the freedom they wanted.

Got to go to bungie.net and make sure they're all confirmed.

I got the "hair parted" look. Decent enough, though you're right that most of the human male options suck.

What's the best way to get armor with light atributes once you're 20? Just run the strikes? Does it have to be in the strike playlists or can you just get them as random drops or by manually doing strikes? And one last question, but you level up past 20 simply based on how high your light attribute is correct? Is there a list out there anywhere or how much you need per level? Sorry lot of questions I know :( This thread moves fast though and I'm still rather confused by it. Appreciate it in advance fellow guardians!

I was going to ask the same thing. I have one piece of gear with a light attribute, it dropped while doing heroic story mode. I'm also wondering what "Lightswitch" means in the destination screen.

Edit: nvm, enemies deal more melee damage, almost one shot you

Don't tell me, tell Activision! They're not exactly famous for awesome story telling.

Finished the game. Wasn't sure it was even the end till the cutscene. Not sure what to think besides the cutscene was kinds cool, whereas everything that led up to it was just okay.

I love how
the stranger or whatever said something along the lines of "This is just the start" and all I could think was yeah where's the rest of the game? :/

Just found this badass mofo right here on the moon. It came from the moon!

One more level till I hit 15 and am able to try it out. CANT WAIT! Gonna be hard putting up my hand cannon but for that thing, I'll do it.

Also these rare boots I found have a fuggin knife strapped to the boot. Its like the game is speaking directly to my Hunter.

honestly I don't think this game is that great it's kinda ass, but i can understand why others like it gets kinda boring after awhile

just my opinion no need to get angry

Only had an hour to play today between school and work. I'm hoping to get on for a bit later tonight.

I still haven't played much of the story from where we left off, just PVP and strike playlist. You get gear really quick that way. I was averaging 3-4 blues per strike.

It really doesn't make sense at all to me either. It's like, they clearly spent a lot of time developing this universe with all this relatively interesting lore, but they made it such an unnecessary hassle to learn anything about it. For a game that seems to be striving for easy accessibility from a gameplay and mechanical perspective, the storytelling is anything but.

On the fence about jumping in. Liked the feel of the core mechanics from the Alpha/Beta but the amount of complaints about repetition and lack of decent story is a little worrying. How do you set this game as a framework for a whole ip/universe and not make the story/lore shine?

I feel the same way. My LE arrived today from Amazon but I'm considering returning it.

Lmao that's exactly what I thought too. Destiny 2 and 3 are all gonna tell one complete story. How awful lol

Anyways I guess I'm a bit at a loss for what to do now. Getting rep takes forever and is an awful grind, so I'm not gonna do that. Am I just supposed to do MP now?

Take it to the review thread.

If the mods feel something is inappropriate for the thread, they'll let us know. Otherwise just keep comments like this to yourself

Is there a way to un-upgrade something in your subclass? I have the bladedancer subclass going and upgraded the thing that adds an extra attack when pressing RT. Now I don't blade dance, I spin on the spot?

It moves the regular attack to your melee button, whatever that is. It confused me too!

There's no way to unupgrade something, but if it's one of the multiple choice options you'll be able to pick something else later.

Also, here's another relatively good question:

When does the third row of abilities in the subclass menu unlock for attainability?

Like, I'm level 10, and I still have no progress made towards Triple Jump.
