Wait. So there's no way to join a friends game in progress? I remember seeing in the E3 demo someone would be playing on Old Russia and then you see a guardian ship swoop in and drop off a guardian. Is that not in the game anymore?

Join their Fireteam from Orbit and you'll join the game in progress. I assume it won't work if they are currently inside of a "no respawn" zone, though.

There's a raid you know. Which is the real endgame and PvP at max level rewards you with marks and such to get even better gear. Strikes are only the beginning.

There is a raid? NO SHIT

Man that is changing everything. Once they unlock the ONE raid you have 5/6 strikes and a raid. Over delivering on content.

Max level doesn't mean shit. Just like Diablo 3 starts at 70, Destiny starts once you reach lvl 20.

You have to grind for days to get better equipment and level up further and it's gonna take a long time to fully level up both subclasses.

This!!

I never said it was deeper, but Warframe isn't better.

Not saying warframe is better in every regard, but it at least has much more diverse objectives). And the powers do come in many different forms(there are even healers), so you can have multiple approaches depending on your suit. Even if a lot of it does boil down to a horde mode, at least they have two types of infinite horde modes to scratch that itch.

I'm in Destiny for the pvp not the co-op personally.

Because seeing as people are already max level in a day, who is going to stick around for half a year?
I think it will be like D3 is now, there's those to still continue to play and grind gear, and pvp in this case. Then when an expansion or big patch in D3 comes out a bunch of people come back for 2 weeks then rinse and repeat.

It just irks me that they want me to pay 35 dollars when their initial "life changing, harry potter of video games" is lack luster in content and story. Give me weekly free strikes, new game modes, custom games.

Yup. The titan defender subclass is awesome. The shield you get after melee kill is a game changer.

You're missing the point. It's not about scale, it's about story, and attachment to the world. All of those IPs had amazing stories on day 1.

Destiny? Not so much.

Those IP's did not have "amazing stories" on day 1 of the release of their first book or movie. It takes time for giant IP's like that to build fanbase and be appreciated. But even if your point is specifically a comparison of the stories, I'd contend that the Destiny's story thus far isn't bad, it's just not conveyed in-game effectively. Reading through the Grimoire entries is actually really interesting and intriguing. The game just needs to do better at delivering that information to players as they play.

There are plenty of traditional MMO boss mechanics that could be applied to Destiny. Doesn't matter whether it's hotkey or FPS. Even if it is something as simple as 'don't stand in the fire'.

So your response is that "don't stand in the fire" is a mechanic that you find... interesting? Things like healing, debuffing, trading aggro, etc.. are easily accomplished in hotkey/melee heavy RPG's. Not so easy in an FPS unless the game doesn't actually play like an FPS. We've also yet to see exactly what mechanics are in the Raid.

Having played WoW for four years I'm quite well versed in who is responsible for WoW, but given that Blizzard and Activision are the same company now you might want to get off your horse.

How long you played WoW doesn't change the fact that Activision isn't, in any way, responsible for how WoW was designed or created. Activision isn't responsible for how Destiny was created either but they're considerably less responsible for WoW. If you're aware of that fact, then you shouldn't make the statement as it's intentionally overstating Activisions role in an attempt to heavily imply that they messed up somewhere this time.

How do Mass Effect 3 MP fans feel about this game? It was basically horde mode with loot and awesome gameplay, that's all I really need. Played it 700 hours.

That's not an excuse for the previous 19 levels to be uninspired and bland. What do I do once I get to level 20? Play Domination forever and play the same 5-6 strike missions?

Yeah, the whole "Destiny starts at 20" thing is kinda bull. While in many ways it is true (like MMOs really start at level cap) it shouldn't be used as a way to dismiss complaints about pre-20 missions or story. At 20 is where everything is available to you and where you start to grind for better and better loot and try the hardest challenges in the game. That's really cool. It also doesn't change the fact that the story missions from 1-20 are mostly the same just with different enemies and scenery (apart from one or two missions that change it up and are really cool ie dat moon mission).

The strikes are where the real fun is though and at 20 you get to do harder versions of them for better loot and it's all cool.

Damn, reading through this thread throughout the day makes me feel like I'm WAY behind everyone. Didn't help that I didn't get to play the game until later last night than I wanted to. I was only able to get to level 5 before I had to call it quits for the night.

Any other low level people on PS4 want to go through some story missions around 7pm Central? I believe the last mission I did was the one where you activate the Array. I'm also up for doing some PVP with anyone if there's some groups playing. PSN is MrJellyBean.

I'm at the same point story wise. Did some random patrolling so I'm 6 or 7, but close enough. Psn is SirRugdumph, if you wanna add. Or I'll add you once I get home from work

Has anyone had any problem joining clans? Two out of the three of us have our Clan name next to our name in game, but the last one doesn't even though he went through all the steps the other two of us did. Anyone know why?

This game has a lot of flaws. Boring mission design. Underwhelming graphics. Bad level design. Awful story.

But the one thing I really, really can't get over is how hard it is for someone to play with friends. Why is there no matchmaking for missions? I've sent out DOZENS of invites to players in my world and not one has accepted. There MUST be other people out there without friends who own a PS4 who would like to group up... so why have Bungie made it almost impossible to find them?

The gunplay and firefights are very fun, which is the only saving grace of this game, but that design decision is almost unforgivable. Truly baffling.

Just played pvp for the first time. I really enjoyed it a lot.

Not really knowing much about the game still, but how can I get new weapons for pvp?

However those of you that got hyped from the beta I don't see anything to be upset about.

The beta was the whole earth and the level cap in beta (8) is almost half of the level Cap in final product.

People whom played the beta like me were dissapointed that they didn't added new missions to earth or left out surprises. Etc

That's my issue too. I already knew the game wouldn't truly open up until level 20, but then what? Those same awful bounties or the same 4 strike missions over and over and over?

There needs to be a reason for getting the gear.

As much as I'm loving the game, I just don't see this having the kind of long lasting staying power that was expected. Not enough addicting carrots at the end of the stick.

This endgame content is such garbage.

Doing the same 5 strikes over and over again and hope you get something good so you can do the same strikes at a higher difficulty level.

I mean sure I could replay the garbage story missions at a higher level or do this stupid fetch mission shit in patrol to level up my Vanguard rank to actually be able to buy some legendary weapons but I'm limited to 100 vanguard marks a week anyway since they don't want me to rush through the few content they have.

Nothing you can actually do after you beat the missions is fun. Only option is to play some PvP.
Feeling the same way, and the legendary drops are so rare it's not worth going trough them again and again. Hell even the blue ones don't drop that often and what about them exotics?

SP is super disappointing and short as fuck.

Finally unlocked Venus. Any tips?

I'm starting to feel like a lot of GAF is disappointed with the game. I'm pleased with what I got. I like repetitive grinding. What can I say?

If someone has the chance to answer an only semi-related question:

I was surprised by the "plug headset into gamepad" functionality on PS4. Does any pair of headphones with an inline mic work with this, or is it only certain sets that are compatible?

This song is probably why Marty left Bungie

I fell over

Destiny PVP= Bungies worst ever, far worse than Reach. If I'm not mistaken there is essentially only Domination, slayer, and free for all. There are no custom games, no file share, nothing community oriented. PVE is fun but the story is awful.

I'll agree the pvp is Bungie's worst since their pvp in the past was insanely robust and complete.

It's still damn good pvp though. I enjoy it thoroughly and it will only get better as people unlock abilities that grant extra stratagies. I haven't played pvp with the bubble shield yet but I used it against a boss it lasted a LONG time and had tons of strong fire into it. Can't wait to see someone try golden gun on it and see what happens.

Where's the thread for people who like the game?

Come back in a few weeks once they've tired themselves out, or there's a new game on the block to hate.

Most people on here who enjoy the game are either asleep, working or playing.

So shout out amongst the vitriol- Gonna do the Moon strike mission on PS4. Anyone up for joining- ScrewAttack_

It's gonna be easy. Levelled up to 16 before completing the moon story missions ;p

I don't see how you can separate how the story is being told from the story like that. The *setting* is cool, the *ideas* are cool, the *story* is shit. There are no characters, there is no explanation, no lead ins, no follow through. Stuff happens, dinklebot drones, stuff stops happening. Rinse and repeat for 15 hours.

And yes, they did have great stories on day one. You could go into the theater and see Star Wars and leave massively excited and impressed. You did not having to exit the theater, pull out your phone (setting aside the fact that the year is supposed to be 1977) and go to the Lucasfilm website for 90% of the interesting material. You didn't have to wait 2 years (or even 3 months, if the expansions prove to be better) for the first individual with a personality to arrive in Harry Potter.

Doesn't mean that it's fun though in it's current state. Destiny feels like what D3 at launch was like. Seeing how they turned D3 into a brilliant game though I hope Bungie is able to do the same. There is a lot of potential.

Jay Wilsons Counterpart is over at Bungie should be very worried by this mindset.

They were completely open that the cap was 20 and that it is a loot game. Nothing was ever promised beyond what was seen in the beta.

Does anyone want to do the Moon Strike with me? I haven't done it yet, heard its a bitch so I'm looking to party up!

PSN: X-Frame

Just to touch on the bolded, and I'll spoiler this since it's about the Moon Strike boss.

I assumed the glowing tanks on the edge of the room could play a part in the encounter, initially. Something like lure the boss into shooting them with his eye beams to break off some armor/do some damage or something. 'Lo and Behold, they are just glowing for no real reason.

Stuff like that would be "mechanically" very interesting.

You know what? Fuck it. Let's start a list. It'll be fun.

What features/fixes should Bungie bring to Destiny before the first expansion?

- In-game Clan Management
- Guild Halls
- Improved encounter design

Now everyone should just add what they want to this list. It's better than spread out all throughout this thread.

Come on people. You can't ignore me forever.

So what good is the Reef area?

Story sucked big time would have thought they would do it better.
And the strike mission on rotation becomes boring fast with only 5 on the rotation.
I really hope the Reef is real end game content for everybody and not only a raid instance.

I expected the bolded stuff too in the strike mission.

This game has been in development for like what 4-5 yrs? And that's all the content there is? The ratio of gear to missions there is is comparable to the ratio of men to women at a nude beach. There's literally no difference between strikes and campaign missions, I want an actual story like I got in halo.

Still love the game though.
