Destiny Reveal Thread

I can't help but feel genuinely disappointed. The ViDoc was hokey. The narration was cheesy, reading the poems from the ARG and the blurb from the preorder material made it sound genuinely epic, and then you have this feeble, shakey old man's voice spouting it back.. thats not heroic. Awful.

I'm not disappointed in the graphics, unlike many here I believe the footage they showed looks significantly better than what the 360 is capable of. People, seriously.. you can't judge a game's graphics from 15seconds of compressed youtube footage. Some journalists who saw the game in person share the same opinion.

I'm frustrated because they didn't explain what the actual experience of playing the game will be like. Sure, WE know that its going to be some crazy MMO-type experience with instances and a hub world and lots of social interaction.. but if I showed this video to my friend he would imagine a 6hour campaign with a multiplayer suite. Which is a huge misstep. They definitely touched on what the true experience will be like, but not enough. Listening to Jeff Gerstmann's video blog he tried to explain it, too. But it was heavily couched with "this is just me speculating, they didn't show us anything." It seems nobody really knows how its gonna be. Which kills me.

Again, I have a good idea of what the actual experience will be like but honestly those were all things we had known from the leaks beforehand. There was no explicit "this is how the average play session will go down." Which is a huge and total bummer. Ugh, I always get way too excited for Bungie shit. I'm not disappointed in the game.. it looks like the coolest thing I've ever seen, I'm just fucking pissed they didn't show more. They had SO MUCH ATTENTION and in my eyes they squandered it. I don't want to go through a years worth of "tune in for the details on the fourth mission type" and "exclusive look at Venus's exotic loot." I just want an explicit explanation and a date to put on my calendar so I can forget about this until its out.

I agree. As a Halo fan, this made me remember how frustrated I used to get with Bungie's excessive teasing and self-proclaimed gandeur. I have no patience for this shit anymore. Don't tell me, show me.

BioShock Infinite has had me by the throat since 2010 because instead of simply talking about how awesome it's going to be Irrational has explicitly shown me how awesome it's going to be, multiple times.

I don't understand the point of this reveal. The only thing they revealed ,that we already didn't from leaks, is some quick footage from PS3/360. Then they mentioned that this is going to be a 10 year project, which means that the main focus is going to be next gen consoles.

Well guess what, WiiU is already out, and the other consoles are most likely coming out this holiday season, with one of them being revealed in 3 days. Why didn't they just hold off until then or E3?

Bungie just went on and went about how revolutionary and awesome it is...

Yep. This is pretty much the worst reveal for a game since that guy who made Avatar went up on the E3 stage and told everyone how awesome the Avatar game would be.

I am not even hating the game. It looks cool/i love the idea.
I just want to see the damn thing.

If they cant show stuff until next gen is unveiled, then wait for next gen to be unveiled.

I see a lot of Planetside 2 comparisons, find it odd. Wouldnt what we have seen here be a more direct comparison to Dust514?

Quick question. If this game release in october for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and, let's say, december for next-gen consoles, will you wait two months to play it on the 720/PS4 or buy it for the current gen platforms?

Yeah. They should have waited until they could show something substantial from the best version of the game.

Now I want o play some type of coop scifi shotoer mith magic. Where can I do that?
Warframe is neat but the scope is very small...

This has just got to be one of the most bizarre things ever in the gaming world.

Why the F would you make this game for both current (soon to be last gen) systems? Talk about splitting your community...

The entire video is just big jerkoff-y bit of nothing meant to placate the easily impressed: Talking about HUGE scope and HUGE ambition while all the details of your game are fairly synchronous with many other games we've got in the past, including a recent Planetside 2, is not going to blow people over immediately... and this is, after all, a first impression.

Well said.

Well, it's about to be unveiled in 3 days. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. As long as they can tie the always online thing in with some great single player content, and as long as most of that content is not locked behind microtransactions, then I think it could very well be a fantastic game. Hopefully they give us a proper look at gameplay soon.

I'd have to know more about the game and the differences between each version, but I'd probably wait it out.

A game like this is a good excuse for me to get the next Xbox near launch.

There were other games that have done the same, like Call of Duty.

I don't think this is in any way going to be something in the style of planetside, which is a fully open, player driven game. This looks to be more of a multiplayer campaign/chronologically progressing universe.

Which is why I said:

Other than always online and Sci-Fi MMO Shooter this doesn't sound like Planetside at all. This looks to be a logical expansion of the Halo experience (single-player and multiplayer).

earlier in the thread. ;)

You can't ignore a 70 million + userbase with the 360.

Why would you invest this much money in a game to only release it on two consoles that have zero install bases at the time?

Madden, Call of Duty, etc all released different versions of their games during the 360/p3 launch windows. This is nothing new.

except we are talking about the company that made Halo

Too big an install base not to. I'm guessing we will see a lot of this type of thing for a while to come.

Sci-Fi demands technology, whether it be beyond our comprehension it doesn't matter, it shouldn't be referred to as magic. Something that Star Trek does amazingly well.
Arthur C. Clarke said:
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
This wouldn't be magic a la SW, but if we go by what I just quoted, it would be very advanced technology.

People expecting the scale of Planetside 2 are going to be very disappointed. Shooting for current gen, you're not going to see more than sixteen players at once.

Fairly closed reveal of their main ideas. All I know is that E3 is going to be massive once they show it off on 720...BELIEVE!
