i started to get a little antsy during maybe the last five seconds of each load sequence, but generally my fingers were glad for the break. "inexcusable" should be reserved to describe games like battlefield 4 on ps4, which ate single player saves at random. that was truly inexcusable.

For better or worse, Bungie's attempt to marry all the game design aspects into one package pretty much means that the game's existing levels as they are a one-package-fits-all level design. Most of the levels we see are both the areas meant for repetitive grinding, meant for strikes, and also for the story campaign.

IMO, the level design of the game is already significantly held back by this particular choice ( open levels cannot be too big, otherwise it doesn't suit a FPS story style, levels cannot designed around select set-pieces/encounters, because that will kill repeated grinding, strikes will lack multi-team ingenuity because the levels are meant to cater to also lower-level experiences anyway ).

Adding vehicle and bigger encounters on top of all this? Will make things worse, imo. The level design in many areas don't contribute to making it that bigger anyway.

Bungie will really need to take a step back and look at their design intentions/outcome for them to scale it up properly.

But they could at least add options for different campaign areas to level up near you, for example, the cosmodrone having equivalent or special high level spawns which give corresponding loot. This would seem like not to much to ask and at least something that doesn't require a complete rebuild of the game.

Well I just finished the story, I think. No real idea why I did most of anything I did. That's got to be worth a mote of strange coin made out of spinmetal.

It needs something more in the combat. More variety. Too repetitive for sure. I think it was a 8/10 for me given what I see of reviews
 
I think after playing for a good while now all the way to the official end of this deal, I am starting to agree with a lot of these reviews that call this game monotonous and underwhelming.

The game's combat really gets more and more insipid the further you go, I don't know how many times I fought the same tedious battle where you fight endless waves of banal enemies while Dinklage 2000 hacks some object.

Where are the cool, diverse and creative missions of Halo? All this game seems to have are those annoying "Flood like" missions where you keep fighting endless enemy waves.

Disaster is a really strong word. It's a big misstep for sure, but it's something they can probably get out of if they play it smart.

This has been way beyond 2014, and the opposite is just as true to those. People mostly just want their confirmation bias, which sort of makes me laugh at a lot of the #gamergate stuff.

OH yeah and one more thing ....... THAT FINAL MISSION ............ UGGGGHHHHH!

Man! So lame!

The final boss fight was one of the worst in recent memory and the ending felt so piddling as to be downright pitiful. Were they even trying with that mission?

Sheeeesh! They better make up for that with the content in the expansions.
 
The sad part is I feel that we'll have to wait for Destiny 2 to see the improvements that we want, I doubt whatever content they have planned for the first one will do anything significant to help fix what's wrong with the game.
 
After playing through both the Alpha and Beta which I loved, it's really hard to get through these missions I played through so many times..only level 4 right now and have no urge to play =\
 
I'm level 12 right now. Honestly I think this game deserves better scores. 6 is too low. Gunplay/combat and production value is first class.

Sure there are things that could be better but I don't think they warrant this massacre.

Hopefully once more reviews come in it'll go a little higher.

Plenty of obvious things they can do with Destiny 2 though so Bungie shouldn't be hurting for things they can do better.

Things pretty much everyone wants
Have a actual story instead of whatever 2 page script they stretched across 10 hours of missions Destiny 1 has.
Something in game that explains the lore to you.
More mission types. More planets. More content!
Less level recycling.
More meaningful side quests. Maybe faction specific side stories? (think joining a guild in Elder Scrolls)
Dont get dumped back to Orbit at the end of every mission and need to select a mission from orbit. Everything should be available when in Explore mode. Maybe at the end of a mission you quickly pick if you want to return to the entrance of the mission?

Lesser things that I want
Story mission matchmaking.
More vehicles. Tanks, Planes, multi seat vehicles etc....
Bigger MP maps. More MP vehicles. Think "More Halo, less COD"
Better in game communication for talking to randoms. Maybe a text chat in the Tower?
Let you control your spaceship.
Remove the FTL sequence when flying between the moon and the earth because it doesnt make any god damn sense.

Dead on, and these are pretty much everyone's complaints with the game. Hopefully Bungie learns from this.

game definitely is a little rough around the edges but once you start a clan dojo with a bunch of friends and some of the latter content like Void missions it becomes really addicting. And the devs are constantly adding new features/gear on a steady basis.

I'll probably be playing this game regularly until MCC releases.

Mechanics was the wrong word for it.

My issues with Warframe tend to be the UI, which I found a pain to get through around PS4 launch time. When I refer to mechanics I'm talking more about the armour upgrade system.

I think your perception might change a bit once you hit level 20.

The high-end strikes essentially take the low level versions of the content and pump up the health and damage of the enemies without adding any significant new mechanics. Some of these boss battles are long, and the strategies don't deviate much from your traiditional "avoid damage to regen health, shoot the weak spot" encounter design. Considering you need to repeat these a ton to get the highest-end gear, this feels like a massive slog.
 
I don't know anything about Gamespot's Kevin VanOrd and don't remember having read anything written by him before. But his review indeed is excellent. Both in the actual points it makes as well as its rhetoric and eloquence. It vividly formulates the tragedy that is Destiny, led by a first paragraph, invoking an image of the campaign's final and unveiling moments, that alone would suffice to illustrate the game's asserted failings and disappointments, and that imbues the following paragraphs and detailed points all the way to its final lines. So it's actually a textbook argument piece, but just really well done. And I just love good writing.

Why not finish the game out after seeing and doing everything?

I'm not sure if I would go as far as a 6 myself, but reading those reviews they really nailed it.

Still having fun, but I pretty much agree. It really hit me tonight when I went back and did the moon strike mission. What a mess. Endless waves of enemies spawning all over the place while trying to take out the boss. It just felt like a clusterfuck.

Again, I am still enjoying the gameplay and getting better gear, but I can already see that this game will not have very long legs for me. The variety is just not there and I am not fond of the multiplayer at all.

Hour long strikes get old fast.
 
Its a sad day people. Well sad moment. Think about it. Of first, i just want to say i didnt buy it, and even have played with it for one second. Im just making a conclusion about the way this thead is going: CONTROVERSY. Mix reviews, not unanimously having the feeling we have a great game here. Some like it, some dont, its not unanimous.

Its sad, because there is so much money invest into that.Hell i watched the first few hours of gameplay on youtube, thinking its not that bad. And where i think its sad is that because the PS3 version looking nearly identical to the PS4 version. 500 millions, invest in something that doesnt , we can say it, feel next gen. I want to play it? Well, im seriously thinking about getting a PS3 used for like a hundred buck, grab the game and im all set. No ps+!. That game didnt sold me a next gen console. YES, the resolution is better, better texture,particle effect. But does that worth paying 500$ more for that?

So yeah, i think i will try it when i get a PS3. It doesnt look that bad, and the zones look cool to explore, and its like Borderlands wich i really enjoy...minus the humor. It have good things, but it is seriously not innovative. Didnt fall in love with it, but i surely want to give it a try. Kind of different when i tough i wouldnt even dare to try it.

Almost nobody is arguing against the gunplay or production values, it's just about everything else that is lacking...

He's the one that gave RE6 the infamous 4.5 I believe. Haven't read the review since critics + RE /=/ my taste generally and ignored all that stuff.

The only Gamespot staffer that I've ever disliked their review style is Maxwell McGee, with this: http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/zombiu-review/1900-6400225/

I feel real bad for the flak he got for the review, since a lot of people targeted his sexual orientation over it. His work seems really great despite that those are the only two samplings I've seen.

They need to increase loot drops, and up the Vanguard marks points.

I'm level 21 and only have 11 Vanguard marks. I have to get 65 in order to buy one piece of legendary armor. The problem is strike missions only give 2-5, at the moment.

I'm enjoying the game, but I could've done without it.
Unlike Watch Dogs, there's plenty of reasons to go back.

I've learned my lesson with hype, first Watch Dogs, and now Destiny.
I had reservations about both, but got caught up in OT hype.

Next time I get the urge to second guess myself. All I have to do is look at those two titles.
 
I find it seriously irksome that people are talking about Destiny 2 fixing the problems. Fuck that noise. I want a major rearchitecting patch or series of them and back-end improvements for the game that just fucking came out on Tuesday. No way waiting for two years is acceptable and doing so will damage the fuck out of this potential ten-year journey shit they talked up in pre-release. Activision/Blizzard did it for Diablo III and many other online-based games undergo major changes for their titles in order to adjust course in a timely manner. No reason to think of things as unrealistically complex and immutable as the old generation consoles' limited access made the standard. If it means that last-gen gets left behind, well, so be it. After all, I would confidently guess that current-gen represents the vast majority of sales thanks to all of the current-gen-only marketing.

Yep, never had any doubt at all after Halo 4, which ended up easily being my favorite campaign experience of the franchise. As a result, I've never been more genuinely excited about the next Halo game than I have been since completing the last game.
 
Reviews are taken too much as gospel , if you enjoy the game, then enjoy it, it's your money and time. Lost count the amount of times in the past I've played games that have had much acclaim from reviewers and I have felt the game itself was average or crap when I have played it myself. You can see the insecurity creeping in, unsure of their opinion and relying on a persons view that could have different tastes to your own.

There's truth to that, but there's also truth to the reviews. These guys aren't just sharing their opinion and leaving it at that - they're backing up their reasoning for liking and disliking the game with very concrete arguments that many agree upon. A lot of the common complaints span through these reviews collectively, and are echoes among the player base.

You shouldn't take reviews as gospel, but they do contain some valid criticism that addresses the state of the game with some accuracy.

This review mirrors my thoughts on Destiny to a tee.

It feels great, for a prologue.
It has an undeniable draw for those that it clicks with, and it's a blast to play.
100% agree re: the lore/story being intriguing but it's a shame that it's hidden away in the Grimoire, where a lot of people will not see it.
Bungie are good listeners, no doubt things will get taken on board and injected in updates/content/expansions.

I recommend giving this a read, very well written.
