It executes on a concept better, that much is for sure. How much you like Watch_Dogs depends on how much you like that concept (generic Ubiworld collectathon) in the first place.

Exactly, I believe that a review and a score should be representative of how well a game accomplishes what it's attempting to accomplish. I personally don't like the Pokemon series, but I wouldn't rate them poorly because they do well what they're trying to do.

All they did was hype the game up to be revolutionary and had a great story. They said you'd feel epic like a hero etc in the end we got a decent game and none of their promises came true and yet they sold a fuckton of copies. Expect this to be a norm. Over promise and over deliver. I also expect review embargos to be after the game has released now since gamers allowed it as well as they allowed bungie to ship a game that feels like the other half is Dlc.

I completely and utterly agree with both Polygon and Giant Bomb's reviews. The game really doesn't know what it is and is dreadfully repetitive.

That's pretty much what I felt after the beta, but a lot of people swore that was but a sample of the real game, which would have more to it. Haven't actually read any reviews yet, but that doesn't sound like it's the case.

I did catch Angry Joe playing in on PS4 last night, which was pretty cool.

Glad you're enjoying it. Glad I didn't waste my money on a half-finished vision of moody Borderlands.

Whoa, hey, you quoted my tag!

I was pointing out that it's not some sort of fact that everybody thinks Destiny is "middling."

At level 13 now.

Its weird....I'm getting flashbacks of Too Human. The hype, the themes (future Thor vs Wizards from the moon), the loot, bosses, and game design are super similar. Its a good start but needs work. Both games have the alot of same things wrong with them.

On the topic of bullet spongey big bosses...Lol.
Nope. You can always clamber down onto the things foot, handle the crew and take out the scarab's core from the inside with a few shots from a heavy weapon.

It is actually blowing my mind right now that Bungie has made a game that has scored below 75% on MC. Holy jesus. When's the last time such a well regarded dev completely fucked up like this?
This is the folly and danger of hype. What we're witnessing is a natural correction of initial expectations.

people are so salty over this game lol

I think low reviews are due to not only having things that modern game reviewers suddenly "hate" but also pissing them off

Honestly, the game is really good mechanically, I think a lot of people are upset that it's not Halo

The gunplay is extremely solid.
However the story or lack of proper story is what upsets me the most. I do not care if the gameplay is somewhat repetitive I still find it fun even doing a strike for a 5th time in the row. This isn't what people expected from Bungie, it is like they lost their way a little or something, but I have faith in them to fix what needs to be fixed,

Oh and PvP is not for low level people, a level 5 Guardian more than likely will be out classed and out gun by the higher level Guardians. Again, Bungie is better than this.

I must admit though, playing with a friend is how this game needs to be played.

Low scores are to be expected from everyone who expected a tight SP experience full of scripted events like Halo instead of.. welll.. that thing we're not supposed to call the game even though thats what it is.

Bungie made a huuuuuge mistake handling the reviews.

Reviewers are just getting further and further away from the honeymoon period post release, making any flaws the game has more apparent to them.

Man I don't think the game is all that but y'all could at least try to be respectable towards other people opinion like Orayn has lol

Attack the game if you have to, its got plenty of glaring weak spots

its past middling in the industries eyes. its a full on disaster. 74 on metacritic? take a look at some of the games that sit at 74 on metacritic.

I am completely in love with Destiny. 9/10 for me but I feel like Bungie and Activision deserve a slap in the fucking face for how they marketed this game but the game itself does not deserve a 74.

Played every single Halo game and whilst I am not big on the competitive multiplayer, I'm a huge fan of the single player campaigns. Having said that, Halo 3 imo was among the worst in the franchise. I have pretty unpopular picks as to which were my fave though. To me Halo CE (my fave), Reach and Halo 4 had the best campaigns.

Wow.

1. Halo 3
2. Halo 1
3. Halo Reach
4. Halo 4
5. Halo 2

Halo 3 has the best pacing in the series, each level flows perfectly into the next. Confrontations are placed and mixed perfectly, each battle is its own thing, each scenario feels unique compared to the last. Great ratio of small, contained firefight zones contrasted with huge, wide open, guerrilla hit and run battle areas. Weapon variety and placement encourage specific playstyles and strategies during battle. Tons of little moments that feel grand when it comes to gameplay and narrative. One of the best endings in a first person shooter.

as a completely unrelated and unimportant point, this game has a lower score than the latest ps4 musuo release (orochi3)

I couldn't help but laugh even though it has 0 relevance to anything

Having played Warriors Orochi 3 right before Destiny, I'm thinking Destiny might actually be more repetitive than Musuo games

This is why Bungie has been off my favourite developer list for ages.

Personally Bungie is severely over-rated. Downhill since Halo3, with a slight rise when ODST came out (mainly because of a massive man-crush on Fillion) Reach was terrible and now Destiny. Sad times.

I know some people are saying stuff like, wait for end-game, the events and end-game will make it worthwhile, however, I'm not going to trudge through a tedious and monotonous game just to get to the end-game, the game should be fun all the way through, not just at the end.

We need a for or against thread.

then we get into the subjective nature of video games, and while some may dislike the game for not being "fun" that does not mean it's not a good game

Ya'll might just not like ADS shooters, or games with lite mmo features, or any of that other stuff. It has some flaws, but really, this game is a fun experience for those looking for a fun shoot em up and don't expect an incredible narrative MMO featuring a massive amounts of features

Im preaching taking the game for what it is, instead of overhyping yourself to create the game as some monolithic giant that can never be achieved.

As someone who sunk a lot of time into the beta and had fun, would I be getting anything much different that I didn't already get to experience if I purchased the game? Is there anything exciting about the single-player missions that I'm missing out on? Any radically different enemies? Are the bosses all as boring as the one in the beta?

A trend I'm noticing with this "Next Gen":

Games feel more like tech demos than actual games.

Ryse
Killzone: Shadowfall
Titanfall
Destiny

These games, in particular, looked GREAT and had amazing potential.

But they were empty and unfulfilling due to a lack of depth or modes or just flat-out misfires.

It was as if the developers spent too much time making the games LOOK good at 1080p or 30/60 fps and not enough time making the games FUN.

People have gotten hyped for 4 Killzone games

People are hyped for sunset overdrive after fucking FUSE

Bungie will be fine.

Not to mention I think the complete edition in late 2015 or spring 2016 has potential to be a really great game. The fundamentals are there just the amount of content is lacking.

If they use the expansions to actually flesh out the story they could turn it around like FFXIV and Diablo3

I'd rate them like this

1 Halo CE
2 ODST(I'm a sucker for moody jazz lol)
3 Halo 2
4 Halo 3
5 Reach
100 halo 4

I don't think you understand how this works, Dax: Games are only as good as their Metacritic scores, except when they aren't.

weird, the reviewers are actually doing their job and applying real critique to a mega-hyped super duper ultra game.

i'm kinda loving the game though, honestly feels like a 85-90 game to me. good gameplay (occasionally even excellent), beautiful visuals and music, interesting scifi premise with the mysterious Traveller (IMO, even if the story goes nowhere which remains to be seen for me)... fun to play with friends, etc etc. i didn't have massive expectations though, never liked Bungie games so i wasnt really all that hyped.

i'll definitely finish it and get a few weeks/months worth of fun out of it. so thanks Bungie!

To be fair, Destiny is far from a tech demo. It's just a game that doesn't yet have enough diverse content to support the scope of its ambition. That's a big problem for a loot-based shooter. I'm sure it'll get there, eventually.

It wasn't just me, then. I definitely felt some Too Human, as well.

Man, I made a last minute pre-order cancelation to get wii u and it looks like I made the right choice. Tropical Freeze is probably my game of the year so far. I'll have to play Destiny when its cheap in the Spring...

I can understand why people would think the game is good/fun in certain areas, or when certain criterias are met ( such as playing with some friends ).

But I absolutely don't understand how someone could say that the game as a whole is great. There's just way too many aspects of the game that are not good at all.

It IS alarming, seeing how many promises didn't come through this year. And what if the 2015 lineup isn't going to deliver also?

Think about it: what if Bloodborne isn't going to deliver either?

The end is nigh.

This doesn't make any sense to me.

BioShock Infinite metascore 94
http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/bioshock-infinite

Destiny metascore 74 (and maybe lower)
http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/destiny

I played both and I haven't finished Destiny yet. But so far Destiny is just such a better game and a better shooter to me... I feel like a lot of Destiny scores are overly negative because people don't think it lives up to the hype and the glory that were the Bungie Halo games.

And yeah the unbalanced PvP is just broken and not fun. But Bioshock doesn't even have PvP...

Opinions?

Titanfall was and still is fun.
So is Destiny for that matter.

that scarab walks in circles and is a bullet sponge.

nobody should have been surprised here.

It's large and takes a lot of damage from conventional weapons. But it can be defeated quickly with good execution from the player.

Best part, there is a variety of approaches one could take dependent on the armament you have with you. So your decisions leading up to the encounter matter. And regardless of how you come equipped to the fight, you can defeat the scarab if you're good enough.

So it's like the antithesis of a run of the mill bullet sponge.

Too Human comparisons came up the other night with our group too. Was a combination of some of the loot being generic sci-fi trappings (oh hey, let me dissassemble some more sci fi boots) along with Venus goblins being reminiscent of the goblin machines in Too Human.

The other comparison that came up a lot was Halo 4's Spartan Ops.
