People hate Target because of the bathroom thing.

Walmart wouldn't cause an uproar for anything other than it being a dumb stadium name.

I guess you're right. In a way Target is technically on the crosshairs of several people but it's mainly low brow folks.

Yeah, on second thought Walmart would probably fly after a week or so of people bickering on sports radio.

Well...Target did have that major security breach like...two years ago. So they kinda have a thing about pissing people off.

wow
you go from famed boxer Joe Louis and WW2 vet to freakin' corporate shilling Pizza joint name Little Caesars?

damn

I bet that their playoffs apparences streak will end and it will be called the Little Caesar's curse

Why wouldn't a target be in a persons crosshairs? ;)

I'm a Wings fan from the Detroit suburbs waiting in a Little Caesars right now on a stuffed crust pineapple deep dish and some crazy bread. New name isn't ideal, but I've already gotten used to it. Come at me fam.

I'll have to give LC credit, that company was basically left for dead for a loooong time and somehow came back.

Even their official timeline in the OP is like "please ignore the time gap between 1989 and 2004 nothing to see here *whistle*"

Detroit is my US home and I try to not eat LC. Been more of a Dominoes and Hungry Howies guy when comes to more common chains in the area. For sit down id go to Mother's pizza.

Serious question:

I thought Detroit was a shit hole where you could buy a house for $1. Why are they building stadiums?

The city is on the basis of an upswing, they've even brought in a Whole Foods and there's tons of hipsters and local artists renting out lofts. Some locals are getting upset, claiming gentrification and whatnot. This stadium is supposedly a way of bringing in further revenue. Long live Detroit.

Serious question: how is the current city mayor? I still can't believe the loser we had in there back in the late 2000s came out to the Wings 08 parade. That was so embarrassing and just the cherry on top of the shit cake the city had been at that time.

Duggan is doing a great job seeing how disastrous things were when he took over. I don't live in the city and am not a very political guy though.

Who gives a shit about the name of the arena/stadium? As long as they keep ads of the sweaters, they can play in Redtube . com Pornatorium for all I care.

I remember the Pens playing the Wings in a double OT playoff game and they said they gave the players Little Caesers in between periods to get some energy back. Pizza Pizza.

Lol WTF? You'd be hard pressed to find as many successful and respected franchises as the Wings man, and I say this as a Pens fan.

25 straight playoff appearances baby!!!

Seriously we suck though, first round exit fodder the last couple years. We should have missed this year and needed to, Holland needs to step down, and we need to actually make some hockey trades to improve our defense and offense. We are so missing the playoffs next year

No you guys need to straight up tear it down and rebuild. You need two seasons of bottoming out to get elite talent.

Stamkos isn't coming. Toronto or Buffalo will offer him max money.

Screw tanking. European scouts need to use that magic sauce and find us some heroes in the later rounds

I know Detroit's population has been declining for like seventy years and it has loads of problems, but the downtown and skyline is really cool looking, especially with Ford Field and the Tigers ballpark so close there. Cleveland and Cincinnati are the same way. There are so many issues facing those cities in 2016, but they have so much gorgeous architecture and infrastructure to utilize.

Also, that's a weird sponsorship, but oh well.

That's horrible, they could have at least negotiated to call it LC Arena.

Born and raised in the birthplace of Little Caesars. Little Caesars is trash pizza and this is a trash name. The winningest hockey franchise, now playing in a stadium that I am hereby nicknaming the Pepper-rinki

It's gonna be Radulov, you know this to be true.

I hope not. He scares me. He's like a German Shepard crossed with a Doberman crossed with a wolf. Terrifying guy.

Those damn Canadiens have many more Stanley Cups unfortunately. Not that one could tell in the last decade or so he he he.

Out of corporate team names (New York Red Bulls,) ads on uniforms (half the European soccer teams being plastered with Fly Emirates,) or corporate stadium names, stadium names are the least offensive.

I suppose it depends on the corporation, too. Mercedes-Benz Superdome could be worse (and I fear it will be now that Mercedes is branding Atlanta's new arena).

The Smoothie King Center, aka "the Blender", though...

People will probably end up calling it The Lil C or The C. Here in Cleveland, we used to call Jacobs Field the "Jake", but now it's Progressive Field, and people just call it Progressive Field. We call the Quicken Loans Arena the "Q" and FirstEnergy Stadium the "Factory of Sadness".

I'm holding out hope "Pizzarena" catches on.

Strap on your hooker ...
I mean why? Professional sports teams only exist because of the ability to generate lots and lots of money.
It'd be one thing if the corporate sponsorships were defraying the cost of building the stadiums, but that's not what's happening. The team gets their stadium built entirely on the taxpayers' dime, and then they turn around and pocket all the profit from the corporate-sponsored naming as a bonus "fuck you" to everyone on the hook for their shit.

For those ignorant of Red Wings ownership: The illitches own both Little Caesars and the Red wings. They are not making any money from this (Just one arm of the company paying the other - net zero).
That should be the case ideally, but billionaires don't get to be billionaires by making deals that don't earn them money. I'm sure there's some kind of shell game going on where all the corporate overlords get a big hot cash shower out of this.

Things I learned today: Little Caesar's has enough money to buy an arena.
Mike Ilitch Founded and owns Little Ceasers. He is worth 5.4 billion.

He also happens to OWN THE RED WINGS.

There is zero chance the name changes, Ilitch's team and company.

Well purely from a marketing standpoint it's a win for Little Caesars. Do people in Metro Detroit forget about LC? No, but like McDonalds and Coca Cola you always want to be on a persons mind. Association of Red Wings and Little Caesars constantly and subcontiously in the consumers mind is perfect for LC.

Something like that will probably happen; Joe Louis Arena is often called The Joe. I think calling it The LC or LCA could work.

This thread is making me want sporting-event grade Little Caesars. A new Little Caesars is getting built near my house and it has a couple drive thru lanes so I wonder if it'll have smaller pizzas like that available.

It's why college stadiums are the best. My colleges stadium has a benefactor who it was named after, but it is called The Swamp and everyone knows it. I suppose that will change in the future though with everyone looking for the dollars.

I'm pretty sure my entire alumni base would revolt if our footaball stadium's name was co-opted by anyone or anything. It is "The Big House" and everyone who watches football knows exactly where that is and what the fuck that means.

Greed is so fatiguing. Sorry Red Wings fans. Being associated with the White Castle of pizza (can we even call that shit pizza) just feels bad.

The team has already been associated with that pizza ever since the Illitch family purchased the team. That's not going to change until the day Little Caesars is defunct or the family sells the hockey team.
