Devil May Cry 3 IGNPS2 review.

Im sorry, your arguement does not apply to R & C 3. Its reviews were high all around, and it deserved 'em all. :)
The point is IGN rated the game higher than most of the gaming media. Besides, there are lots of other examples (Sly 2 and Mercenaries come to mind).

I've never even heard of BB reward zone...sounds like a scam.

What do people not like about DMC's save system? You can save when you reach the end of the level. Isn't that how it is in most games? Being able to save anywhere is cheap. Most of DMC's levels were relatively short anyway so ya could save often.

I know, I know. I was kidding around. You see, most reviewers are going to have some pre-judgements coming into the game, and no matter how much they tell themselves that they are going to be professional, those pre-conceptions trail into their reviews and they are usually skewed.

My favorite gamer response is when a reviewer comments on how overly difficult a game, or portion of a game, is, and they're automatically labeled "weaksauce." How I wish I were in the elite class of human beings who have four eyes, 6th sense, and bionic thumbs. DMC3 is artificially hard, imo, and my right forearm looks like its on the Joe Weider weightlifting plan from the turbo-mashing I'm doing trying to fend off motherfuckers.

On easy the game is...well easy. On normal it's already pretty difficult though, sometimes bosses will whoop my ass. Fun game though, a solid step up from DMC2. I wish I could play it more, but damn it if I didn't just get GT4, MVP 2005 and Tekken 5 this week.

I love a fantastic challenge. And if the challenge is anything like Dante Must Die, I say bring it on. You don't have to be an especially talented gamer - just set the difficulty to your curve. But challenges are awesome, and I wish a whole lot more games were exceedingly difficult. It makes the feeling at the end of the game all the more satisfying.

IMHO Heaven or Hell isn't really a harder difficulty, since
everything dies in one hit
. I guess against certain bosses it can be considered harder though

DMD is just pretty damn relentless though, each time you get hit you lose like 5 or 6 blocks of life, and the regular cannon fodder monsters actively attack you and block more often.

and gitaroo dante is flat out hilarious, especially with the moves you can do with it.

I can't comment on DMC 3's difficulty (or any DMC for that matter), but some games get unjustly labeled as "too difficult." Viewtiful Joe comes to mind. I don't know how some of these guys made it through some of the unforgiving shit of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras.

Viewtiful Joe was easy until Ultra V-Rated. Then it gave me a real challenge, like the good ol' days of the 8/16 bit eras. That's why I love it so.

has anyone played both the domestic and the japanese versions? i don't mind a little frustration, but i worry that they've screwed up the pace of the us version, and i've never liked having to "buy" lives and continues. well, game should be awesome one way or the other. i actually disliked the first devil may cry, but at the time i was irrationally hostile to 3d action games and all their attendant imprecisions and automations. shinobi, nightshade, zoe2, and the mighty ninja gaiden turned me around. i should replay dmc 1 before i buy 3.

Capcom's on a roll here.
Yeah, too bad Shadow of Rome didn't get these good scores :/

Anyway...

*waits for Gamespots 8.9 review*

Oh yes, I did read the Tekken 5 thread :lol

As long as your expectations aren't set too high you should enjoy DMC3. Don't think of it as a Gaiden killer when you play or you will be disappointed.

it destroys NG...your just too much of a fanboy to admit :D

The Jak 3 score blows my mind.

Hell I liked R&C3 a lot, but that score is nearly as ridiculous.

For what it's worth, I thought Viewtiful Joe was incredibly well balanced in the difficulty department. (And I still say DMC3 is -broken- there.:) Great game otherwise.....)

..now the Japanese Hard mode has been transformed into the American Normal setting.

:| OMG, I was having a hard time with the normal mode already, some of those bosses...I swear...my controller was THIS close to flying across the room!

The score is deserved though, it's a great great game. Don't know how it compares to Ninja Gaiden because I never got the chance to play it.

Boy they hand out 9 plus scores like candy at IGN now.

I'm getting the game, but my god. It's like every other game now with any popularity.

I found this one at the IGN boards and I thought it was funny:

IGN review guide.

9.0 = C+
9.2 = B-
9.4=B+
9.6 = A-
9.8 = A
10 = A+

Anything else = F--

So, they really did f*ck with the save and continue system for the US version? Screw that, I'm not buying the game. That awful system prevented me from really enjoying DMC1 and almost made me skip Ninja Gaiden. I'll probably at least rent it, but I'm not going to buy it now. No chance.

I'd recommend getting the import if you have a modded PS2.
I'm at the last mission of normal, and while I can beat most bosses now without getting much damage, I can't imagine playing it without checkpoints, on hard difficulty from the start. it's going to be frustrating as hell.

To the guy below me, the first level is hardly a level. it's one room to train in.
and if you choose swordmaster style, sooner you'll have more combos than you know what to do with. and the graphics will impress you. also, the first boss will kick your ass.

I was also skeptical at first, but the game is amazing.

I finshed the first misssion and so far i dont see the fun the combat seems down right simple when compared with NG and do the levels get bigger? The graphics are just ok.

*never played any previous DMC games*

The first level is like...the first 3 minutes of the game? Hardly a representative of the game

That's another reason why I'm wary...

NG did everything so damn well and I LOVE the design of the game, while most similar Capcom games this gen have left me cold. I'm kind of expecting DMC3 to do the same.

RE4 was an exception in the large list of Capcom disappointments.

sorry i meant finished the first real mission.

First level = first mission, what's the difference?

You don't even get access to the whole combat system until later on

At that point his combat is very limited. Most of his moves are still locked as are his devil arms and guns. Once you start unlocking those and start learning how to switch weapons mid combo everything starts coming together.

Beowulf is awesome awesome awesome!!

OK, so can someone confirm 100% that when you play the game on Easy, that the saving system is not restrictive as described in EGM, and that you have unlimited continues? If true, I might even give this a try then, the demo seemed quite a bit nicer than the first game, which I just couldn't digest.

any chance of 16:9 or progressive support in dmc?
Not a chance for prog. scan. DMC3 runs in half frame buffer mode (with some flicker fixing, thank God, so it doesn't look like the first one) Not sure about 16:9.

I hoping for widescreen it's a damn shame mgs3 isnt in 16:9

No 16:9 in DMC3. And no Prog. Scan either.

But you can get them both in God of War :P

Edit: the only "special" feature in DMC3 is the DPLII and DDPLII support.

Are they scared to give games realistic scores now? I know this game might be good, but 9.6? If I was reviewing games, my scale would reflect the notion of the game being worth $50 whole dollars, which DMC1 and 2 were not.

What the hell is DDPLII? That was an option in Onimusha 3, too. Is it just another name for DD5.1?

So the continue system is almost exactly the same as it was in DMC1? That is to say, completely innoculous and unobtrusive? If so, SOLD x A MILLION.

Who am I kidding, DMC1 is one of the greatest action games around and you'd have to tie me down and cut off my hands to keep me from playing Dante's Awakening. :D

I dunno. It stands for Dolby Digital Pro Logic II so I guess it's something better than plain DDPLII :)

IGNPS2 is so definately more credible than any other games pub in terms of reviewing games. They'd never overrate a title due to blind hype!

I just got done finishing mission 5 on the US version of DMC3, and I must say I am really impressed.

My gf pre-ordered DMC3 thinking I woudl like it (being that I am a huge Ninja Gaiden fan, she assumed it would be similar) but I hated that.

I hated DMC1. I got so "inside-mad" when she said she pre-ordered DMC3.

But for some reason, DMC3 rocks. I love it. And I thought NG was 40x's better than DMC1.

Can't say it's better than Ninja Gaiden, again--I might be biased because I LOVE NINJA GAIDEN TO DEATH, but DMC3 can easily hold it's own.

Greg's review of 8.6---I guess. I mean, that IS A GREAT score, but I don't really see what's so hard about this game. I mean, maybe him and Mark from EGM button mashed or something I don't know.

I actually thought DMC1 was harder than DMC3...

Btw* Yes, I am playing the US version.

I still think Ninja Gaiden is harder. Because once you get the pattern down in DMC3, the monsters are a cake-walk. So as of now I'm much more leaning towards IGN's, GI's, Famitsu's, and PSM's take on the game, more so than Mark @ EGM. By far.

Damn, actually Viewtiful Joe felt harder to me than DMC3.

In anycase, awesome game. DMC and/or NG fans will love it I'm sure.

And now the most important questions:

Is Lady playable in the US version?

And,

JP or US version?

Please I want to know.
