OMG I just finished this blasphemy, I had to force watch this shit during the final episodes just to see how big the train wreck was, all characters personalities got destroyed especially Lady, the lore is nothing like the games, whoever selected the music needs to get fired and the amount of goofiness throughout the whole thing made me cringe so hard, the only good thing is that the animation is decent I guess, but man this has to be up there as one of the most disrespectful videogame adaptations ever.

It's mind numbing to see that this kind of divisive slop is what is being optimized for these days. Legitimately good content flies under the radar, but flashy dogshit for some reason appeals to idiots, but also riles up people that dislike it which just ends up with hate watchers and more attention.

I dont know what you guys are talking about. Its bloody awesome.

Whoever voiced rabbit is damn good, ive never liked a baddie more. Im only up to ep 6 and im hooked. Yes i noticed the animation switched to that crappy one (the one they use in anime when they wanna save money) but honestly everything else is just clicking for me. I havent care much for the lore of dmc but i want to know more about makai - now i want season 2 to be there.

Or a spinoff where the lead demon hunter girl goes there to power-up. That would be awesome. The potential is just endless there.

You guys expect way too much, its just an action flick with political undertones. Doesnt mean it cant be enjoyed for what it is :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I enjoyed it. Looking forward to season 2. I always wanted to see the hell dimension and figured there had to be more inhabitants there that weren't evil. That point was made in the first DMC anime.

Why do they always do this shit? The Dragon's Dogma anime was about the 7 capital sins for some fucking reason, and this is what they do with DMC?

Why can't they just copy the game's plot? It's already there, it's even less work than whatever the fuck they have done here.

I would love for them to go deeper into the lore with the video games especially the history. There's a lot of cool stuff there that can be explored like Pluto and the whole idea that the Light and Dark worlds were separated.

Two episodes in, digging it so far, though I've heard that most of what has led to it having mixed reviews occurs in the later episodes. The political stuff is so silly and over-the-top that it's kind of charming.

On episode 4. Not a terrible show but also not that great. Will watch the rest as it's a pretty entertaining none-the-less.

For those who like DMC and want more, watch the first anime. That was fantastic.

Having fun with it. Pretending it isn’t really about the games helps.

The art is horrible.
Thankfully this has no canon connection to the games. It's basically just using the Devil May Cry characters to tell the writers and producers own stupid story.

In fact, this isn't DMC at all. It's pretty much just using the characters to tell a completely different story.

But what do you expect? Originality is dead it seems.

It is very silly, campy, and over the top. I think people forget that as they watch the later episodes and begin to take it very seriously. I knew the negative reception would come flooding in, but I didn’t take this show that seriously in the first place to feel the need to defend it.

Let’s not rewrite history here. The first anime was bad. Dante was too brooding, the show moved at a snail’s pace, and the tone of the show was overly serious.

Neither of the DMC shows are worth recommending 100%. The netflix one has more fun with it’s fight scenes because it’s trying to be campy and over the top to match DMC 3, but it very clearly changes up some lore and character introductions which would obviously upset fans. On the other hand, the anime show tries to expand the lore a bit after DMC 1 but gives us both a Dante and a storyline that is about as boring and forgettable as DMC 2. There are only two side characters I liked from the original anime and that is because they were involved with Sparda lore-wise.

Both shows have filler/animated movie-style villains who come and go but are ultimately forgettable to what was hinted at next, which are main video game cast/names. Time will tell if this new series will at least make it beyond one season because the first one couldn’t.

Idk, I'm up to episode 5 and its a cringe fest with some semi-decent action scenes - outside the 3D crap. The lore is... um yeah. Maybe I'm not the in the target audience for this.

And that’s fine if you think it’s a cringe fest. I’m just pointing out that DMC has not had a 100% good anime adaptation, and trying to rewrite history or apply nostalgia to the old 2007 one as if it’s amazing, is going to set people up to be disappointed a second time around.

Indeed, it is very much a product of the "death of the author" era. A pity that DmC is so badly user as a franchise.

On episode 5 rn and this show fucking sucks. Agni & Rudra, Lady, Nero as Dante, Dante is just Spiderman, the terrible-as-you-know dialogue...

I have 0 ways to defend this show because the Madhouse anime exists. While very flawed, that show is 10x better than this.

Did they censor Lady?

If you mean as in make her way less Sexy than in the games, Yes absolutely she has this armor that completely covers her up, but the biggest offender is how much they changed her character, she's now this boss babe leading a team of demon hunters or whatever the fuck, these woke writers just had to have a girl boss character and clearly chose Lady for the role.

damn lots of dislike on here for the animation

not a pultzer prize winner but I enjoyed it. didn't overstay its welcome and the rabbit was a cool villain. well voiced. didn't enjoy the twist. the re-characterizations of some classic characters wasn't my taste. but thought they did a decent job with a younger Danté himself
some cool animation scenes.

was fine. a solid 6 for me.

also - RIP Kevin Conroy
fun to see him do a villain role
One of the GOAT VA's ever.

I wasn't calling the first anime a masterpiece, but it might as well be after watching more of ep 5 of this series. Dropped, what a horrible show.

Fuck forced politics and these lame+lazy adaptations, if you can call it that.

Just finished it. The 2007 anime was much better. Too much change in this one for me and none of it for the better. Lady is one of my favourite characters from Devil May Cry and she's utterly unlikable in this.

I personally never understood the want for a DMC anime/show. I know there IS lore, but I never thought it was interesting enough to have its own show, and that appears to be the case. I will likely not bother watching it, but it seems pretty damn divisive.
