Yeah, it's definitely an issue with dialogue. With my XL on max volume I miss out a lot of lines that are spoken even slightly below a regular speaking voice. Headphones are the way to go here.
kinda. twenty coins (300 D Soul) is how much you need to use for each evolution, but: you can only evolve it once a day and you can only generate ten coins a day on your 3DS.
oh yeah you can get 200 D Soul just from reading the tutorial on the nemechi menu, so do that.
I saw that message, but the first person mode in Soul Hackers and Strange Journey is disorienting to me, to a degree. I saw them on the map, of course.
Should I always be walking around with a full party? It kinda feels like a huge waste of mag to keep them out so i've just been running with one demon so far, unless there's a boss coming up.
Same thing goes for keeping demons. Is it better to keep ones you want to use away and stored or is there some way to prevent them from leaving? Same goes with their affinity in/out of battle when it comes to obeying commands. I've been chewing through demons.
I'm loving the world, setting, and characters so far though. It's so full of life and really gets my imagination going. Not to mention it's just so cooooooooool.

Max their loyalty to prevent them from leaving. Buy the sake from the liquor store that temporarily sets demon personality to kind and guard in battle until it's maxed, then you'll have no problems. As for the full party, honestly, MAG is not that big of a deal. Fight every battle you enter, and negotiate sometimes to get MAG. There's usually at least one demon in each dungeon that will give MAG if you follow a specific conversation path (same for yen, actually). That said, if the demon is in the back row and can't do much but cast magic and you want to conserve MP, there's certainly no reason to keep them summoned. No EXP gain means demons who aren't contributing can sit out with no penalties.

Ah that makes sense. I guess I was under the wrong impression with the sake too. Even though the personality change is only temporary, I didn't know it helps build it up in the long term too.
I've been negotiating with similar demons to the ones I have in my party and noticed they are all "Oh hey, my friend is with you. Take some MAG or Money." The one i'm in now is the Mokoi who gives me MAG.
And this may be a dumb question... but am I right in that you can't level demons, only fuse to get them higher-leveled? I checked all the status screens and stuff and see no indication, so I figured I should spend more time on fusion.

You are correct. You cannot raise a demon's level. However, you can fuse them with special demons (much later in the game) called Mitama to raise their stats, up to double their base stats. It's... generally not worth for most demons because it because it's expensive and time consuming and the result doesn't make a huge difference.

I just entered this building full of low-level demons in packs of 6+ per fight, and you get a battle in like 2-3 steps. Is this a sidequest or something? Im trying to access the bypass area people are talking about, but nothing triggers on my game. Oh well, Im raking in Magnetite anyway right now.

No, this is not Sea Ark. Its Primate Intelligence Lab. Just entered it randomly since I don't remember it being open before, or what triggered it to open at the first place.

I don't think it's actually streetpassing. I haven't met anybody with the game. I think it's most likely that the NA version counts exchanging play coins as street passing, since that's something that wasn't in the JP one.
I really want to buy this game but I'm not a fan of first person dungeon crawlers. The story seems cool (even for a 15 yr old game) and I'm a fan of Atlus and Persona 4. Thoughts? Am I working myself too much over the first person portion?

IMO, here's what you should do. Download the Etrian Odyssey 4 demo. Ignore that game's music/story/setting (OK, don't ignore the music lol) and just focus on the gameplay. Play it for a bit and see if you warm up to first person exploration and combat.
I avoided Strange Journey for a while because it was first person but I ended up getting it and the first person gameplay ended up not bothering me (and I enjoyed it). YMMV but these types of games you have to try yourself first before judging.
Finished the art museum while at the airport. Phew.
Juggler's voice is amazing.
Boy did they make the
Strange Area Portrait
a joke with all that automap.
Well, could also be because I understood the NPC dialogue this time too.
I went through it blind originally.
Shidoshi, were you talking about the
EL-115 DJs
as the stereotypical example? Yeah, that was the guy I was talking about in the podcast. Maybe the voice carries across the stereotype.
Also, this is really the most core SMT localized game we've ever gotten. Kuzunohas, occult societies, Key of Solomon all up ins, male/female protagonist, it's pure bliss.
Kyouji's voice is... interesting. Like the character already.
Now I realize why Paradigm X's music sounds so familiar...it sounds exactly like Wii Sports music. Seriously.
Also I think the VA is great. Yuri Lowenthal as that one (incredibly minor) security guard sounded so off though. Laura Bailey sounds so different in her Hitomi voice. I'm so much more used to her Nemissa voice.
Also, anyone know a decent way to farm yen? I'd like to try my hand at the casino, but I don't have nearly enough coins to exchange for the good stuff.

Hmm, maybe. I actually haven't seen the new dub of DBZ, so I can't really tell. Either way the voice is good, though. I'm pleased with how the dubbing went for this.

If you beat the 2nd or 3rd dungeon (not including Vision Quests), you can talk to this guy in the Bathhouse Forum.
Then you go to the area he tells you to and just keep exiting after the 1st area.
It's not hard as long as you keep on top of fusing new demons as you level up. Since demons don't gain exp in this, they will become irrelevant pretty quickly. There's also a variety of "hacks" you can use, like adjusting difficulty on the fly, auto-map, and the ability to see enemy weaknesses.
