Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers |OT| New World Order, Old World Chaos

Well, I just beat the game and clearly did something slightly wrong. I never opened the Primate Research Lab. You guys told me it that I would get access after reading a summoner mail, but I never got it.

That final battle was a killer though. I made it by the skin of my teeth.

What carries over if I start a new game now?

I'm at the final dungeon, but no Mary sidequest. :( I kept talking to her and everything!

Also, Sea Ark's bottom floors open up in post game I guess?

Turnip said the conversations themselves are the sidequest but IDK.

Don't remember if this was the case for the Lab, but sometimes you have to leave the HQ then go back in and check your Mail/Summoner Net to unlock stuff.

I'm at the
Amami Monolith and my MC is about level 50
. How much more of the game is there?

Also, I have been putting off gunplay but would like to start capping demons. How the heck does one level gun ATK quickly? Or am I hosed?

Buy new guns. Buy better bullets. Guns exist independent of other stats (although I think Luck has a minor effect on accuracy? Still not worth putting level up points into Luck)

Once I got past
King Frost
the other two bosses I've faced within the top floor of the Sea Ark,
Mara, Lilith
were almost pushovers. I beat them on my first try. Hopefully the last two will be this easy. Although looking at
Lucifuge's
moveset (both Tetrakarn and Makarakarn, REALLY???) I'm not holding out hope for beating him my first go through like the last two.

Megido cuts through Makarakarn. You can also bust out Genma Heimdall's Judgement to shave off huge chunks of his HP.

I hope you're ready for

after all that. Because I wasn't.

Used Megido and Megidola which got him down into the red, but before I could completely defeat him he ended up killing my MC. I'll have to try again with Genma Heimdall.

Didn't realize that was coming, thanks for the head's up. I didn't realize there was something past the 5 of them. Hopefully, they will go down as easy as the others.

Oh no. Once you beat them thats it. I mean in extra game. There's only the 5 bosses at the
Sea Ark

Oh, ha ha yeah I tried Extra Game and made it through like one or two of the bosses before I just kept getting hammered. I gave up for the time being to focus on doing the New Game+ stuff.

Beat the game earlier. The final final part of the last fight was scary when
he started doing two moves per turn and DOUBLE CAST Armageddon
, but I got him on my first go.

Not a single freeze either, throughout the entire game. Phew.

So uh. How do I get into the Sea Ark levels again? I tried Extra Game, but one of those dungeons gave me one heck of a vertigo-induced headache.

Now that I've beaten it in English, overall thoughts(story and such) :
The whole game is full of stuff that feels like it's just there without any fleshing out or real purpose. The Kuzunohas. Rei Reiho. Sukeroku. Madame Ginko.

Even the Phantom Society. Did it die with Nishi? Was Kadokura just a power-mad psycho?

And is Carol J now in charge?

That said, I loved the ending's
melancholic tone.

Ok, now Im feeling how short the game really is. I was just at the Airport and now Im at the Leon Auto Plant. I have the Map hack turned on though, but knowing what to do next saves a lot of time, and Frost Five is kinda OP early game.

Still need help in the Monolith.

I've entered the WIZ and FLY passwords for each tower. I've gone to the control rooms in each tower. Six and Lunch were like "Oh boy the thingy is unlocked!" but everything is still locked when I take the elevator up to the 39th floor. Oh god please help, this is a horrible dungeon and I want it to be over.

Take the stairs on floor 20 up to floor 21, there's an elevator up to the higher floors. Keep in mind that the TWIN and PIXY password inputs start of floor 21 though.

Found it. You are a god among men. Thank you!

That dungeon is the last trial. The final dungeon is a joke in comparison.

I've mentioned it earlier, but just in case:
there are two bosses. Save after the first one.

The second one is the real challenge(in comparison anyway).

OK, about Mary, if you've been keeping up with her conversation you'll get a special event. After Algon HQ talk to Mary, then after you go to your HQ and before you get going on Amami Monolith (you can enter it, just not complete it I think. I entered it but then remembered to talk to Mary and left.), go back to the Goumaden and Victor will have you run an errand with her. You then go to the Robot Haus and EL-115 for some scenes.

There should be one more conversation with her after Amami Monolith.

Tried out two of the Extra Game bosses. Died horribly!

Got Sid Davis down to just him, then the bastard spammed Babylon Pheromone nonstop.

I'm gonna need some null charm gear, I assume.

I encountered this weird bug with the Sword Compendium. I moved the Circle Pad to read the description of one of the swords and pressed B to cancel to the previous menu and then my lower screen went black and the upper screen was like 1fps or something, since the dialogue moved letter by letter very slowly. Then when the prompt to press A showed up, it went back to normal. No idea what that was, just glad I waited patiently instead of resetting the system.

Is it still one of your favourite games? If you were to assign it an arbitrary number on a scale of 1 - 10, what would that be?

I just beat the Monolith. Kind of an overhyped dungeon honestly. A lot of backtracking but not too bad outside of that (as long as you have Repulse Water/Estoma). Though if you do it in more than one sitting it can get confusing if you don't remember some things. Also
Azazel
is totally Batman.

Also I agree that some characters (including villains) don't really get much development, if any at all, and are pretty simplistic honestly.

Which is why I don't really understand why some people hate the S. Links in Persona. Maybe hate that they're half the game, but they give characters a lot of development that may not be in the main story. Devil Survivor is good with this too. Though I thought Raidou 2 and Digital Devil Saga did good without them.

Still have to beat the game but I'd probably rank the series like this (of the ones I've played):

Persona 4
Raidou 2
Nocturne = Persona 3 FES
Devil Survivor 2
Strange Journey
Soul Hackers = Devil Survivor
Digital Devil Saga 1
Digital Devil Saga 2

As for why DDS is at the bottom, the random encounter rate combined with annoying dungeons killed me :x Plus they don't have a demon fusion aspect.

Absolutely. The setting and characters are fantastic, I love the vibe. The music, gameplay, it's all classic.

9, and it only gets a dock because of the wasted potential of some of the NPCs that are barely touched on.

So if I want to improve my team for Extra Game, do I have to beat the game again or can I just load my file after everything?

Quantum Leap's boss is rocking my world. Stupid AOE mute.

There is a big chance this game will end up being my GOTY. I'm not even kidding.
SMTIV may change that but it won't be easy from what we know about the game so far.

I'm about 20 hours in playing off and on and I'm only at the
VR Haunted Mansion
. This game is sooooo good.

Finally got a dream ticket too after a few resets. Have a bunch of casinos coins too, but haven't used them yet. Like I've said before, Dice Game is addicting as all hell.

Can't wait for SMTIV

You don't have to beat the game again. Simply reload your save. Have you beat the extra dungeon at the top of the Sea Ark that opened after the game is cleared first? Because you aren't supposed to die at the bosses in each of the 5 room in the extra game. The only dangerous ones are in the exhibit hall after you beat the others. If the normal ones are kicking your ass you definitely should switch your team or try clearing the dungeon mentionned above as the bosses in the exhibit hall will be really frustrating.

Umm...don't remember exactly but it should be at one of the 39 floors somewhere. Look harder lol. It'll say "roof" as you approach it.

It's on the south end of 39R. On the automap it just looks like a 4x2 tile room.

Same here (except I made it all the way to
Kyouji
, it's recommended one does as the fusion limit is removed in new game plus and you can be more prepared for it that way.

Beat the Corridor of Time. Wasn't so bad with good demons.

Dungeon strategy spoilers:
First off, fusing the Kartikeya and Zeed from here are very good ideas:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/997805-shin-megami-tensei-devil-summoner-soul-hackers/66039196

Bump Kartikeya to AGI 40 using a Nigi Mitama as stated in the topic and push Zeed to lvl 59 using Kartikeya. One user says to use Murmur to push Zeed past lvl 59 and inherit his skills but it doesn't work. At the very least use Kartikeya to get Zeed to lvl 59, and he'll have 29 AGI by doing that.

Anyway, Kartikeya should be using Makarakarn at all times for the bosses, and I had Zeed max out Makakaja for the party first then use Sukukaja 2-3 times. After that either guard or use Tetrakarn with him. Doing that, most bosses are easy.

Nemissa should be your powerhouse damage dealer with Megido. I don't think she learns Megido if she's not on the electricity path though, so just try to use one of her top magic skills otherwise if she can't. If I was in trouble I'd use Mediarama with here. Again, not learned on non-elec path lol. In that case try to get Mediarama from another demon and put it on a high lvl one.

In this dungeon, I recruited a Mot and he's awesome. He's lvl 72 and knows Megidola. When fully Makakaja'd, he was able to dish out 1000+ damage which was close to Nemissa. I got him in Corridor 5, before Beelzebub. He was my main damage dealer besides Nemissa for Beelzebub. Really helped a lot since Beelz has a crapton of HP.

Before Beelzebub I also fused a Marici (lvl 71) which had Mediarama. I bumped her to 28 AGI (she couldn't go higher for some reason) which actually wasn't the best idea as sometimes she'd go before him and I wanted her to heal after Beelzebub attacked so I didn't have to use Nemissa to heal. However, this wasn't that big of an issue and most of the time Beelzebub went first...at least after my first battle with him, lol. First battle she went before him too often while after that it was rare for some reason.

Off to Extra Game.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Keep dying to
Manitou
. I get him in the red, but then he two-hit kills my MC. Watched a video with the player doing 1-2k damage; me, I'm doing 100-200 damage. It's the physical form, btw, and my MC is level 64.

Fuse the two demons in the link I just posted above. Problem solved. Though you might not want to backtrack.

Otherwise, you just need to keep your MC guarding at all times. Also, make sure you have your best equipment on (the shops in Shibahama have some good equipment, but again you might not want to backtrack...). Makakaja also helps for damage.

dominion
. I never picked one up in the standard game.

Don't exactly remember how I fused him. You can recruit him at Amami Monolith (you just need him to only have his base skills and not inherit anything), as well as one of the top levels of the Sea Ark I believe. I don't think you get access to the Monolith after you beat it though. If you want to fuse him, go to Victor and find out which two races create a Divine. He's lvl 51, and if you fuse two races that are a bit lower than his level (say low-high 40s) that create a Divine, your result should be a Dominion.

And of course, you want to fuse with your COMP.

I wasn't doing that much damage either even with Megidola. I got the physical one version of the boss believe, the one you get when you beat Apsu. But because of my demon's Tetrakarn and high AGI I wasn't in much danger and I just wittled down the boss' HP little by little till I beat him.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Started the game up yesterday, played for five minutes, turned it off.

I forgot my cable I use to hook my portables up to my sound setup at school... I could tell the music in this game is phenomenal, and didn't want to ruin the experience. But now, it's a day later, and I bought a replacement. Now, we're gonna do this.

Does anyone know how worth it it is to start NG+ before the Extra Game? Also, do the Pet Shop quests reset in a NG+?
