Read the manual, it helps :B Though, when recruiting demons, only the ones with a ":D" beside their name when selecting them to talk to are ones that have the option of joining you [others will just attack you, or maybe give you macca/mag]. Found this out the hard way ;>> But yea. Good luck! :3

I'm surprised I'm enjoying this game, considering I found SJ a snore. Nemissa is pretty cool XD Had to turn off the 3D because holy eyestrain batman x.x Also no voices for the full retro feeling :p

*edit* the only problem I'm having is demons inheriting the same useless healing skills when fusing -_-; Or demons with skills that don't match their personality, super annoying.

Pretty sure I'm near the end of the game now. Or if not, this dungeon is one long goddamn dungeon. But I love long dungeons. You just wanna spelunk the shit out of that bitch.

Nemissa's get-up is sweet. I wish I knew girls who wore clothes like that.

I have nothing to contribute to this thread. I just started writing a post, and figured that goddammit, if I don't post it, then I just wasted 30 seconds.

I just wanted to say that Vishnu's voice in the Extra Game is fucking awesome.

And Mara's voice is not what I expected.

What's good about the "conversation system"?

The dialogue is really well-written and actually quite funny at times. And there's a certain thrill to negotiating with demons in the hopes that you'll get them to join you... or not kill your entire party.

I mean the mechanics.

I don't think people like the mechanics themselves. Lol.

Chac basically summed things up on what makes the negotiation system awesome in every SMT game that has it, though the randomness of it does make things a little annoying.

I had to.

I just couldn't take "WHAT WILL YOU DO?" anymore. I could not.

SAAAAAAAAAAAAVE?

(I loved the former voice.)

Anyway, I did some research into OG Devil Summoner, namely through the Megaten Wiki, and I found some interesting stuff. Dr. Thrill and Madame Ginko are both in it.

I checked my Devil Summoner World Guidance, and sure enough, they're both in the book as well. Ginko looks... yeah. Different there. Thrill's exactly the same.

Makes me wish we had more of a localized taste of Sid Davis than just his cameo in the EX Battle.

Finegan is asking me to trust him! What do I do Gaf?! Also, how close am I to getting the power up and saving the princess?

It's up to you, but

you can trust him. The only upside is that there's more treasure in the red and blue areas, if you opt to do both.

Got to the last two EX bosses. The Hindu Pantheon rocked my world.

His called Dr. Drill in Devil Summoner.
I wish Atlus would do a proper port of that game because it was awesome and so much hardcore than Soul Hackers. It's perhaps the hardest megaten I beat ever.

That voice is so awesome.

THEN GOOOOOOOO.

@the hee ho at the casino, that lady better shut up. She's so annoying. I always try to skip her voice when I enter there. So frustrating -_-

I didn't mind her too much, she helped me in Dungeon Q's EX Game.

I need to play OG Devil Summoner, but unlike Soul Hackers there's no guide for it yet.

Though someone at SMTG said they're working on a script, and Sid Davis sounds like a much cooler antagonist than Soul Hackers'.

I helped to make a complete guide for that game. It's in French though.

Edit: I plan to play that game again. Perhaps I will make an English version of the guide if there are people who are interested.

Is Madame Ginko the same person as Lisa from Persona 2?

Well, google translate can't screw it up that badly... and yes, I absolutely am.

Speaking of which! Finished the EX dungeon and got to the final boss.

One shot from a sub demon killed my entire team.

Yeah, not ready. I was L63. What's recommended?

Finished the game. Phew. Absolutely stomped the final boss. Spent about 26 hours on the game, though a fair amount of that was leveling up at the end. I did a couple side quests.

Thing is, I started the game on Tuesday night. So... yeah. I played some SMT these last few days.

LET'S REVIEW!:

+ Really well-paced. It doled out the right amount of story at any given point, and dungeons didn't feel too long.
+ Game was the right length. Didn't feel padded.
+ Side quests that don't suck? Sweeeeeeeet.
+ Setting was cool. Dat '90s cyberpunk.
+ Conversation system worked. The dialogue was surprisingly witty.
+ Solid voice acting.
+ Nemissa wears leather.

- The demons sucked. I kept felt like when I got a new demon, I was all excited, and then I realized that they dished out like no damage. So I was just relying on my MC and Nemissa for the entire game, for the most part.
- Game was occasionally needlessly frustrating. Some battles were mere competitions of luck. And the art museum boss? The fuck.
- As good as the setting is, they kinda squandered its potential with some bland locales for the dungeons.
- Music was a mixed bag. Some solid, moody tunes at first, but most of the dungeon themes were lacking. And the sound quality was poor. Playing the game on my Adam A7Xs compounded this fact.

Overall, it was quite a good game. My SMT rankings go:

Nocturne
Persona 4 / Golden
Digital Devil Saga 2
Persona 3 / FES
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
Soul Hackers
Persona 2: Innocent Sin
Digital Devil Saga 1
Raidou 2
Raidou 1
Persona (fuck this game to Hell)

I think you were actually supposed to keep using magic on him, even though it seems like you shouldn't

A little curve ball from standard SMT mindset, at least for me.

You haven't played the Devil Survivor games? For Shame.

You also didn't play Jack Bros.?

I actually did play Jack Bros. It uh... was decent enough, from what I remember. But it's not really an SMT game, so whatevz, bro.

I have Devil Survivor Overclocked and I'm waiting for the sequel's OC edition to hit 3DS, but I haven't opened the game. Haven't opened Strange Journey either, because the music sucks. Someday.

A little trivia: Though Madame Ginko is not related to Lisa "Ginko" Silverman, Sukeroku appears in some form in Persona 2. Considering also that Tamaki, the semi-official MC of if... is an NPC in both Persona and Persona 2, and Hazama, the antagonist in the same game, is a quest giver in SH pet shop, we can conclude that both the Devil Summoner and Persona series as well as SMT if... all take place in the same world.

Isn't Hazama kind of dead by the end of If? I would assume so, since he's the main antagonist.

And where is Sukeroku in P2?

From what Hazama's saying, SH takes place before if...
Sukeroku is
Chief Todoroki. Well, his soul is. Sukeroku is actually Kyouji Kuzunoha in the body of a kabuki artist named Sukeroku, he later changes body for Todoroki's one for some reason.

That... wow. I guess it's possible, but I always assumed SH was far into the future.

And that's awesome. About Sukeroku,

I'm confused, so is that Kyouji inhabiting all these bodies, or the protagonist of DS? If one, where is the other?

Those are just fun little extras. Unless you guys really believe that everyone from Soul Hackers is competing against all the Devil Survivor 1 and 2 guys in the auction houses

Spoiler for the original DS:
Kyouji lost his body because of Sid Davis, body that is later taken by the protagonist of DS who was killed at the same time, most likely forever. Kyouji's soul, not really dead, is then forced to jump from body to body. First, some random thug in DS, then Sukeroku, then Todoroki (and probably many others in the intervals, he even said he was interested in Finnegan's body).

I wouldn't put too much stock in Hazama's cameo. Hanoun is also at the pet shop, gathering ingredients for a love potion despite this taking place in 199x rather than 20XX.

I agree, actually. Hazama and the other quest givers felt more like funny little references.

Guess that locks the Survivor series into Devil Summoner canon!

I never noticed this. Guess I really had no idea who they were before. Will check again once we get Break Record here.

Also, I finally got Lucifrost and lol at his description in the Compendium. Now Im wondering what the exclusive Frost will look like in SMTIV. Though I have a bad feeling it would be a Frost with the MC design.

Just finished the Dr. Thrill mission. It was pretty cool but, man, it would have been a pain in the ass without the save anywhere mod installed.

How did you get to that boss at level 63? That's the level I had when I beat the game.
Unless I'm missing something here...

Hazama didn't die in the true ending.
Check the screenshots I posted in the megaten 25th anniversary thread if you don't mind to be spoiled.

I started the EX Game from my clear file and took some names. Then got buried by the end boss.

I see.
Go finish Sea Arc first and you'll gain at least 15 levels and the ability to fuse powerful demons.
I don't think beating EX Dungeon is possible if you go there directly after you beat the game.

I was tempted to try! But yeah, that's the plan. Anyway, if I can't beat Kyouji, I may as well join him. Gonna dabble in some OG Devil Summoner.

Help would be fantastic.
