Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

Couple days ago I dug up my old Diablo 2 case and added the cd key to my battle.net account.

This will - without a doubt - have increased my chances immeasurably.

Are you press?

Did you get a key or did it just show up in your account? When/How did you get your key? Can you walk us through what you had to do once you were notified?

Besides the menus (which I already know about) is there anything that seems "unfinished"? What I am getting at is: Do you think the final game will be out this year?

Any stand out moments, skills, or design choices that you haven't already mentioned?

I'm not press, but I do have some friends in the industry. I'm guessing it's still part of the F&F crowd. A key was emailed to me, I went to the battle.net site and punched in the key to "register" the D3 beta client download. I downloaded the client (close to 3 gigs) and was up and running.

The game is amazing. At this point the game seems very polished. I didn't encounter any bugs at all, but I'm sure some if the numbers still need tweaking. I can't really say anything about the release date because I don't know how big the game is or what's being changed. =\

The only issue I really had was with the mouse control of the character and binding skills to buttons that also make your character move. It's a weird concept to get used to.

One of the things that stood out to me rather quickly was the synergy of the skills. They worked together very fluidly and led to some attack combinations that worked very well. I loved the disenchanting aspect and being able to craft my own gear. Music, atmosphere, and ambience are perfect. I can probably address this a bit more after playing a couple other classes.

I've seen like no people claiming they got opt in invites on a couple forums (including Blizzard forums), reddit, Facebook, etc.

I don't think they've sent out opt-in invites yet, or have sent a very very small amount

Hey guys, Im thinking on buying a new laptop with an Intel Core i5-2520M 2.50GHz Processor and an Intel HD 3000 graphics. 8GiB of RAM.

Do u know or have any idea if Will it be enough to run Diablo 3??
I have a thinkpad x220 with the same processor, gpu, and RAM, and it will run the game. I opened up the sandbox and it ran fine (though the temps and fan noise went up) but I have no idea how it will fare when mobs/graphical effects come into play.

I should also add that the HD 3000 is listed as "low" on that big list of graphics cards someone claimed to extract from the beta client, and staff on the blizzard forums have said that the intel HD 3000 cards are supported.

It was a good idea for Blizzard to release the skill calculator early. That way all the people currently theorycrafting skill combinations can give the testers any last minute ideas to test that they may not have thought of before. Interesting strategy.

Does the barbarian's maximum fury capacity increase as he levels up? It seems like it stays static the whole game. Are there items that add + to maximum fury?

Anyone got any info on this?

I will check on this when I get home today. It felt difficult to generate fury with bash though, and just as difficult with cleave. I'm only level 5 though, so it could get better.

With a level cap of 13, not really. =\

The hardest part I'd imagine is that it is always deteriorating. However, there is a passive that reverse this and grants you 2 rage per second instead. I'd imgine it would be a lot easier generating Fury once you hit this passive.

Cool thanks.

The reason I'm curious is because of the skill Weapon Throw/Dread Shot. It says it expends all your remaining fury, and the more fury you use, the more damage you do. Using Dread Shot with a full-as-possible fury orb will do lots of damage.

I'm sure I know the answer to this already, but I guess there's no chance of Steamplay style functionality where you get both PC and Mac versions? I have a PC at the moment but the plan is to get a Mac soon but possibly after the release of this.

Blizzard has always put out PC/Mac versions together from what I can remember.

The beta may be PC only to start, like SC2 was originally, but they usually release both versions at the same time.

Not really been too interested in this. I like Diablo and would eventually get it but not been following much apart from some class announcements. I watched the Yogscast play through of the beta earlier today and it looks great. I think I'll definitely be a Monk. Looks so cool.

Might not get it day one, depends on if my friends get it at that time or not.

Interesting. So should I run the beta tool on my PC instead of my macbook? I had planned on playing on my macbook but if there is no chance on beta with that....

Do you get them both in one package, or would you have to buy them separately?

The same disc works for both, and you can download both versions from Battle.net after registering your authentication key.

Have you never played a Blizzard game before?

They said there will be no delay this time. People who have been in the FnF have already been playing on the Mac client.

I've seen people talk about playing it on their Macbook, so I know that the beta is both PC and Mac.

I just saw a video that had a barbarian find an item that gave +1 to maximum fury, so I guess that answers that.

don't shoot the messenger,

but apparently, D3 beta has been leaked.

Client's been available for a long time. But actual, complete beta? Maybe. The hackers already had a sandbox working, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Yep, and I don't think it's cracked yet.

I do believe that they got a private server going within a week of the F&F releasing, not sure on the status of it and if it's playable or not.

It's not. I've been following it.

It won't be for a long time. And it will never be the "real" game because all the important scripts and such are on Blizzard's servers. It will be like private WoW servers that are a bastardized version of the real game. We'll be lucky if monsters are even implemented months after the game is released.

Diablo 3 will never be "cracked" in the sense the full, real game will be playable offline. It's just never going to happen unless Blizzard leaks their server files.

I can confirm that the game is playable in some form or another without being on beta servers. Not on my own experience mind you, but from observations from the net.

Playable is a big word. Only running in town doing nothing

I'm curious what's wrong with them? What are they lacking?

And most important scripts are in D3 client already - enemy AI, npc spawns, loot algorithms etc.

If the entire D3 database leaked that would include stored procedures/functions correct? The real reason will be that no one can host the private server load and will bastardize the game with donation members and things. Also, it will be hard to find the manpower to even complete the broken client.

Firstly its not a mmo, its a coop game that can be effectively played solo.
Secondly, really? :> There are TONS of private servers of never heard mmos/games, do You really think that there wont be people that want to make/reverse-engineer D3 server/client architecture? Its one of the most popular games and for those people its fun.

There are tons of private serevrs for WoW too, but most of them are terrible.

Keeping a server running and up to date is pretty expensive (when you account for both the time and money), which tends to fuck with the prevalence of it. A lot of people are into hacking something for the fun/challenge/"making a statement", but way fewer people are into extending that work and effort for multiple years for free.

There is also the occasional legal action, especially for high profile games; WoW had one of these. Older and more obscure games can usually avoid that.
