Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

The upside of today’s announcement is that we will be running the beta test longer than we initially planned, which will allow us to invite more of you who have opted in.

If someone wants something positive out of this.
Hate me all you want but I'm not that sad about this. That means I actually could play from the start, could play it with a new rig and it means it will be more polished.

Welp, this is a huge surprise, I might need a whole 2 seconds to process this news. My cynicism was well placed afterall.

._.

Ah well, good we atleast have some vague date and it's not like there are no games coming that we can sink our teeth in, it's all good guys, we're good...

NOW WHERE IS MY BETA INVITE

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Sigh, guess that was coming. I can appreciate a dev taking the time to polish, but this freaking game was announced in June 2008, its on it's third art overhaul, multiple ingame systems have been completely thrown away or been redone. Talk about taking your sweet ass time. There are plenty of devs creating great games in 3-4 years, just saying.

Hmm, let's see:

October - Dark Souls
November - AC:R
December - MGS HD
January - ???
February - FFXIII-2

Fuck! I don't have a game for January! Damn you Blizzard!

I just don't understand how people were still holding out hope for a 2011 release. We're already in September. Early 2012 is great. I was figuring Summer or Fall 2012.

Blizzard are almost staking their reputation on how long they take, if they completed a game inside of 3 years people would say they rushed it, they work in their own time vortex where 10 years is a normal development cycle.

Their financials are done by the decade.

Just give me the beta invitation please if not 2011 release!

Waahh..

Because the game looks well polished, and a closed beta for stress testing and system testing purposes indicated pretty good progress.

StarCraft II will be released towards the end of 2009. And Diablo III is aiming to be released by the end of 2010, but I would expect D3 to be delayed until at least 2011.
2010-2011? God, such a wait. I'm more excited for D3 than I ever was for SC2.

"Oh shit. 2010 at earliest confirmed!"
What did you expect? Its Blizzard... :lol

2010?
:(
Why announce it now?

Hey the 2010 stuff is still just speculation isnt it? Dont remember hearing a dev confirm anything release wise. It could still be earlier

"Looks great, a bit bloomy but still awesome. Day one for sure, in 2012 or whenever its released."
^ my favorite, guy was trying to exaggerate. :lol

I hope 2010-2011 is a joke... seriously, there's no reason it should be out that late

I'm crossing my fingers for 2009 and expecting 2010.

And that's just from the first 5 pages :D, dig in! Diablo 3 announced.

For future reference, nobody should ever speculate in Blizzard release dates. Just regurgitate their "it's done when it's done" mantra and nobody gets sad.

edit : bonus :

4 years in development? Awesome. Surely it'll be a 2009 release?
Surely.

I'm actually more than fine with Diablo III coming out early 2012, to be truthful I'm kind of relieved. Minecraft final is coming in November along with Skyrim, and both of those games are going to keep me very busy. Hell, I doubt I'll be done with Skyrim before D3 comes even if it's mid 2012. I'd rather Blizzard takes their time and polishes it up like a fine diamond before I get my hands on it. Because once I have Diablo III in my hands, it's going to be there for a long, loonnngggggg time. And other games will suffer, and grow dusty and ignored, I know it.

Take your time Blizzard, you have my money even if it's late 2012.

I've bought some clothes from you. Thank you.

Hah, woah, I feel so violated now. I can't even read the language that site is written in. I wonder if I should contact them about using my name without my permission... :D

Haha yeah, our language isn't the easiest one :D
And now you know that you - or they, bare your name :D

Stay strong, friend... stay strong :(

PM.

Next up on the table is if that means January? February? March? Later than that and it's not really early. It certainly has to release before June or it's definitely not early. So did they need just another month? And we get it January? Or longer.

We should definitely know by Blizzcon now though. Disappointing, but with any luck, maybe they'll expand the beta content, rather than just extend it.

We commonly use the term “soon” when referring to Blizzard releases, because we know that no matter how hard we’re working to reach a target, we’re not going to compromise and launch a game before it’s ready. For Diablo III, we were aiming to launch by the end of 2011. As we’re announcing globally today, our new target for the game is early 2012.

Didn't StarCraft 2 recive an update just a week after release?

This whole: "before it's ready" thing makes no sense. I'm ok anyway, I won't die for 2-3 months of delay, it just sounds like a lay back/lame excuse.

Starcraft 2 has received patches every other month. There was some bigger ones and some smaller ones but mostly balance patches.

If you mean bug wise I think Starcraft 2 was pretty good. I think it was pretty finished when they released it but the answer will differ depend who you ask. Chat channels came much later and some stuff still isn't there.

Maybe the DIII is mostly gameplay / bugs etc. In those regards SC2 was pretty done. I'm not in the beta but from what I have seen and playing in SC2 beta SC2 seemed more refined. A lot of small bugs in DIII

anyone knows what those random properties on the items means?
It means that the value of sets/legendaries is going to vary wildly depending on the random properties rolled.

I don't know if there's a list of properties out there, but you can probably expect about anything: life steal, +stats, dmg for class, etc...).

Yeah, it means that each legendary item also rolls with a random property. It's actually pretty cool given that it will make a range of value for each legendary. Crafted items have a larger set of random properties than legendary items, making their high end value potentially much higher than legendary items.

Most rare item in the game drops.
Randomly generate +1 light radius.

if the properties are randomized by the class that ids it then it would be stupid
like barb ids a soj but find it out that boosts something related to barb. Like extending duration of warcries

It's not class based. I've gotten +wizard stats on items ID'ed by my barb.

Taken from the diablowiki.net

"Random Properties are bonus modifiers found on most crafting recipes.
These are what they sound like; random modifiers, prefixes and suffixes that spawn on a given item and add to its stats.
Random properties are what keeps crafting interesting, mysterious, and unpredictable in Diablo III. You never know quite what you'll get, which turns item crafting into a bit of a gamble. This follows in the footsteps of crafting in Diablo 2, but it's very unlike the predictable, guaranteed outcome of item crafting in most RPGs."

Edit: I should refresh first before posting.

Hey TheExodu5 is the number of people in the beta still pretty low? I was reading a post on the offical forum saying less than 100 people are online playing the beta at any given time during the week.

Just holding out hope Blizzard hasn't sent all of the first round invites out yet...

I usually see less than 10 people in public games. Not totally surprising given that there's really not that much to toy around with in the beta.

I'll check in about 2 hours how many people are in public.

On that note, I still have Monk and DH to play through. I should do that tonight! Gotta decide what class I'll be starting with.

I would love if Blizzard pulled a Sega Saturn and announced a game, then launched it like a month later. (Obviously Saturn was same day/one day, but the same concept.)

Just pull Warcraft 4 out of nowhere or something. Never going to happen, but I think Blizzard fans have grown tired of being shown what looks to be an incredibly polished product on these major new releases (i.e. not expansions) 3-4 years in advance of their release.

Tell us about the DH changes if those went live in the beta! Whether it feels good or not, even if you didn't play a DH before.

So bascially (as an example) all the Sorc items that will be worth money will consist of either Sorc Skills or MF only? I have a feeling like this could really inflate things in a bad way. People always want only one or two stats, it's like they are intentionally making a lot of the gear worthless over time.

I mean don't get me wrong the concept is awesome, but I could see it also being a double edged sword. I mean anyone who has played Diablo 2 should know how people act. It's either got perfect stats or no one wants it.

I haven't played DH past level 3, so I wouldn't know about the changes, but I will report on the feel.

So far, Wizard feels great. Barb feels brutally awesome. Witch Doctor feels meeeeeeehhhhh. Monk feels pretty good (level 6 so far), though not quite as satisfying as Barb...might be cool once I get dashing skills.

Seriously though, Witch Doctor just really seems to suck in the beta. I can't get the damned poison frogs to hit, and the poison darts and dogs just kind of seem to suck. The only skill that I got that's half decent is the exploding zombie, but it's completely inferior to Arcane Orb. I thought I'd be maining Witch Doctor to begin with...guess not. Maybe it gets better as they progress in levels, but the beta levels are just not very good with Witch Doctor.

It's a double edged sword for sure, but it will certainly create a very dynamic auction house.

edit: come to think of it, I think I might agree with you. It might make it really easy to get sets/legendaries with shitty rolls as they might be considered worthless on the AH. It might reduce the prestige of getting certain items.

That is true for some of the class specific items, there will always be one stat that will be the 'best.' However most of the items cross over between the classes making the random stat the determining factor for which class it fits best.

That's true. I forgot the items were much more "general purpose" now. I'm not sure exactly how I feel about that.
