Quick one for someone who is not a completely amateur at specs, like me:

Mac user here, you guys think if I can run Team Fortress 2 with settings on High do I have a chance with Diablo 3?

My specs are a couple of posts above, thank you.

Yes, you can play in low but don't expect a lot of FPS... 15-20 range I think and the heat...

I don't like to play on my macbook air because it heat like crazy ~90°C, macbook pro is better with the heat but it still go high.

Been watching this stream 2 hours, Things to notice

-When your health is low, red shit appears on screen a la MW2.
-He gained shitton of gold in 2 hours,
-About 50 weapons and sold them all,
-Leveled up ten times.
-Three active skills, but unlocked more than 5
-it took him 2,5-3 hours to reach the end of ACT 1

The end of the beta is only 1/3 through ACT 1. Leoric is not the Act 1 end boss.

Haha, I am surprised that the Radeon 4850 HD was listed as a high settings card. That means that the 560ti I upgraded to last month should beast it with no problems. :D

I give you the a la MW2 low health screen. I like it but it needs to be toned down.

Has there been proper pics of all of the UI settings? WoW has that red thing too and it can be turned off completely.

You can definitely tell it's a modern game with how it's rewards are up in your face. Sometimes I didn't notice when I leveled in D2 if the action was hot and heavy.

Yeah same., got a 560Ti recently also. This is why Blizzard is awesome. Low sys requirements for really nice looking games.

My tits are ready.

Yeah, they are more up-font with what is going on. The level explosion is even better than the WoW one. :D

I like to know that I am making progress.

Didn't they make it easier to get shit and level up because it's beta. Like they did in WoW :o
Also that's not end of act 1.

Edit: Also why are you watching like the lowest quality stream there is out there?

Edit 2: I land in medium settings ;( Stupid old computer
I'd blame Blizz. I would've expected 8800GTX be the maximum range for fidelity as this. But too bad they are stuck in 8 years old tech.

I'm a macbook pro user and my card is listed as unsupported. My specs are 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, ATI Radeon X1600. Will I really not be able to run this? If so that's like the saddest news I've got in a long, long time.

It would be cool if the level explosion actually did damage to surrounding enemies, like a shockwave.

That card is really ancient, it doesn't even score 2000 on 3DMark06 :(

The card is like from 2006.

Think you're out of luck mate.

I'm expecting my HD4870 to handle this game well like it handles Starcraft 2 well.

My PC is ready. Just need a beta invite now.

i dont see why not - at least at low settings. if a geforce 320m can do it, why not the x1600m? :) just make sure you are running snow leopard and you'll be golden.

Don't get his hopes up.

A Geforce 320m scores 4000/4500 in 3Dmark06

A X1600 scores 1800

Your card is like 2/3 times as fast as his. A X1600 is just too old.

Ehm your 560 Ti is only about 60-70 percent faster than a hd4850.
Not sure how weak you think a 4850 really is.
It will run the new deus ex at 60 fps, batman AA at 60+ fps, dirt 3 at 50+ fps etc all maxed.

Another sucker/victim of the naming schemes and rebrands from the last 2 gens of graphics cards I guess.

Besides it's a top down view game with mediocre graphics, how demanding could it really be.

Fuuuuuuuck. Guess I'll have to steal my wife's PC a bunch... or try and sell this thing and get a new one before D3 comes out. Sucks, because I felt confident getting a Mac because Blizzard games are really the only PC games I play, and I thought I'd be able to play Diablo 3 on it whenever it came out when I got this. I suppose I didn't think it'd take this fucking long to come out, but I still thought it'd scale enough...

Macs come with some of the worst gpu's on the planet for their price class.

X1600 is a 5 year old GPU, but I bet your mac is like what, 3 years old?

He hasn't said. Could be random or he could do it when he usually does his Starcraft dailies which is around 10PM EST.

He's on a Starcraft vacation this week, so no daily.

Yeah, still waiting for a true step-up from my 4870. But all we see is incremental upgrades for extremely high prices.

The only thing that bugs me:

is there ANY kind of randomization when it comes to map layout?

I sure as hell hope that it's like d2, that there's a mixture between random and predefined elements.

Every game the maps are random, this are confirmed by Blizzard.

I have not seen first hand but people that have watched multiple streams said that the level of randomization in the environments is impressive.

My last card was a 8800GT that went tits up. I figure I buy this card cause it was at a nice price (sale), and runs alot cooler than most cards (I don't have central air where I live).

Mediocre? Your opinion I guess. I think it looks fantastic.

Waiting anxiously for the 7xxx series, I want to upgrade but I can't justify throwing away 300 euros on a fairly petty upgrade atm.
My 4870 costs about 40 euros second hand atm and for a 70 percent upgrade I'd have to pay 7-8 times that + deal with the excessive noise from the current high end cards, not going to happen.

Again, top down view and most of the shadows/lighting are baked if you look at the videos.
It looks no better than dungeon siege 3.

And I'm not saying you can't buy a new card:p just that AMD and nvidia have successfully tricked people into thinking gtx 260 or hd 48xx are old weak throwaway cards and that the new (well 6 months old by now) cards are much much faster, which they are not.

2 4870s in xfire still shit on a hd6970 for half the price.

Is it bad that even though I've never played Diablo (avid fan of Starcraft!), I'm excited for this game? ... even after hearing how much time is lost to it?!

Get Diablo 1 and 2, play them like mad and then you will get all the in-game stuff in D3. :D Perfect!

TBH 4870 is louder and hotter than many current 6xxx and 5xx cards. My stock 6870 is deadly quiet.

Only the ones with the same reference blower cooler than the stock 6950s etc have are as loud.

Mine is inaudible on idle and very quiet under load, went gaming at a friends place with the blower cooler 6970 and the noise was driving me up the wall, even on idle you can hear it which sucks.

4890 was the loud card, not the later 4870s (e.g this cooler design http://www.jayceooi.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/sapphire_hd4870_04.jpg.
Anyhow this is going too off topic.

Your 6870 is the successor to the 4770, it's slower than a 5870 so of course it will be quiet.
Those high end 300 watt tdp cards are noisy as hell.
And that is what I'd have to buy to get a noticable upgrade, you need a monster 3 slot aftermarket cooler with 2 92 mm fans at slow speed and excellent case cooling to get those somewhat quiet, and that means spending another 50-60 euros...
