Heh, the economy in Diablo 2 was broken as it always revolved around duplicated currency. One of my biggest reasons for anticipating D3 is an actual stable marketplace that revolves around legitimate currency. No more balancing the game around Infinity and other high-rune runewords, which were essentially impossible to get without duped runes.

I mean it's supposed to be "couldn't care less", not "could care less". The latter implies that you do care, hence my poking fun at it. :P

Ohhhhh *doh*

Yeah but the market always adapted to the dupes. But I had over a hundred SOJs stockpiled and gradually they became worthless and it kinda killed it for me. I'm really looking forward to a more monitored and closed marketplace.

So... now that there a few beta testers here, are there any skills that are designed for mouse use? Having to target, requiring precision etc.

That sorc video seems 100% designed for a controller, with beam spells and projectiles flying around towards general directions.

I guess you guys didn't get to uber tristram or play long enough to encounter any element-immune monsters.

I guess you didn't play long enough to get an Infinity. ;)

D2 characters are outrageously overpowered when it comes to DPS. There's not a single hard part of that game anymore if you have the right gear.

I've got a fully decked light sorc on East right now (Infinity, CoH, anni/torch, 10 GCs, etc...). The game is pretty boring by that point, heh.

Not that I could really get any of that without d2jsp forum gold...

Uber Smiter ftw :D

I am smiting stuff right now. OH GOD DRACS, PROC LIFETAP PROC IT... PROC IT... whew.

Really though, is there anything that paladins can't do in D2? using the same build I can mf pretty much anything I want and then with a gear switch turn around and solo ubers. As much as I want to see crazy cool builds out of Diablo 3, that kind of singular class dominance is something that I hope does not repeat itself.

Demon Hunter Grenade skill.

Not in the beta right now, but no, I haven't seen any skill used/available to use that requires precision targeting. I have seen people use precision targeting, but none of the most used skills seem to need it. The only one that comes to mind (though I'm not sure exactly how it works, since I only saw it a couple times) is a Demon Hunter ability that functions like Hunter's Mark from WoW - marking a single enemy to do increased damage against them.

Even if the game fully works with a controller (for console), I still think it would play better with KB+M. It's certainly not as complex as WoW though, where you would be severely gimped with a controller since you only have 6 active abilities to use at one time, compared to the dozens you could be using in WoW (albeit many of those situational/cooldowns, etc.)

Hydra comes to mind. It's in the game.

Meteor is in the game as well...

These skills aren't in the beta, but they require precision.

We should have a community GAF beta account. You play for 3 hours, then let someone else log in and play.

Then watch the account get banned in less than a day. ;(

That would actually be a neat idea if we could get enough people to be honest and make it work. Every 3 hours you log off and change the password. Then you give that said password to someone via a PM who is actively online and has three hours to burn.

Honor system only goes so far though and it could easily be stopped after 2 people.

Yeah they will track the IP address and BAN it.

Yeah that's like Beta 101.

Plus, it will result in shit for the Blizzard employee who handed out that key, which is why the employees are pretty careful about who they give out F&F keys to.

I've got no idea how long F&F of blizzard need to test it. But youtube is depressingly bare. I would thrash my PC to get some footage out there for others, GFs visiting family be damned.

lets be honest. this is the best piece of Diablo music. It combines all the best tracks in full orchestral score. This should be the BG music for the menu.

god damn man I agree, I want some cool footage :( if I had the beta I'd fraps 90h of uncompressed material and upload it somewhere for download. You know you want it.

This is true to a degree. If you play legit, there is still a few tough parts that can kill you before you have time to react, but playing with duped super high end gear, you are right there isnt many tough parts at all. That is one of my biggest worries about Diablo 3, I just hope the economy doesnt become polluted and over run with duped items quickly. Im sure it is going to end up happening, but I just hope it takes years instead of months.

Downloading the beta!
Nice try, but you need a constant connection to battle.net to get in. You'll have a pretty menu and nothing else if your account hasn't been approved through a friend/family member at Blizzard.

is it ok to post crack information and the like here? I know some groups are hard at work on one like they were with SC2, and while they've made very little progress I thought it would be good to keep people appraised. On the other hand, if this is TOS touching stuff, I'll let sleeping dogs lie.

I wouldn't count on them accomplishing anything if this is truly a client/server game.

Anyways, it's probably best not to talk about that stuff here...unless I'm mistaken. Seems like borderline piracy to me.

Fair enough. I know that there was discussion of that DX:HR leak though, so I figured I'd ask.

I would post a screenshot, but obviously I'm not going to break the NDA. Why would I download the beta if I couldn't play it anyway?

edit: any other gaffers in that would like to play?

Client server games are not immune to reverse engineering, but it takes a much longer time and usually results in a shoddier product. Blizzard games are however usually popular enough for people to make the effort (e.g. WoW private servers).

WoW Beta was cracked back in the day, you logged in near the old Dalaran site. All you could do was kill other players but hey it worked. Shortly after they got mobs in and you could level up in the Barrens, every server reset forced you to regain all the levels. It really said a lot when I'd sit there and gain around 14 levels over and over again just because I wanted to play so badly.

For the record, Blizzard doesn't give out "keys" when they invite people themselves anymore. They simply give access to the battle.net account of the person they want to invite. Its a complete misnomer to think that Blizzard employees are given only so many beta keys to give out. This new method began with the WoW Cataclysm alpha and beta test. Friends and Family who were to get into the alpha and beta gave their friend or relative their battle.net email address, who then forwarded it to the team in charge of checking out the accounts to make sure everything was on the up and up and handing out access to the Cataclysm alpha and beta. This is likely the method that will be primarilly used with the Diablo 3 beta so if they start handing out keys themselves, it will likely be further down the line when they start using the beta as a promotional tool for the game's launch and start the stress testing of Battle.net's Diablo 3 servers.

It's been one week right?

So roughly one more week to go right? Right? *itches*
