Tell me about it... with my shitty mobile internet, my page doesn't load screenshots (and avatars) so I got really shocked when I saw that he just posted and got banned... then I saw his user name lolCorky said:Your tag is even more devious than Warios :I

See, this is the (amazing) shit I'm talking about! I'm currently so hyped it's not even funny, I'd love it if anyone else would share some of their half embarrassing, half ridiculously awesome D1/2 stories they've had!
It's hard to put into words actually. It started with Diablo 1, which I first played in the summer of '96 and then more extensively later that year when my parents got me my own version for Christmas. I fucking loved it so much, even though my 486 ran it at a literal snail's pace. The soundtrack (Tristram's theme in particular) will always be burnt into my brain. Additionally, albums I've bought during that period (like Placebo's debut album, or Live's 'Secret Samadhi') will forever be connected to playing Diablo. I was 12 when it was released and it was the best game I had ever played and I played a lot of games. The first encounter with the butcher was terrifying, discovering an entire new tile set in those caverns was awesome, finding your first unique item, the Valor quest. I loved all of it.
No surprise then that I went crazy when Diablo II was announced. I was literally obsessed, constantly talking about it on forums, gathering every scrap of information there was to find. I even printed out all that stuff, to read it over and over again. There was like a weekly piece by gamesradar where one of the editors gave a really colorful impression of his experiences with the beta. Which was a blast to read. Yeah it was a long wait, being hyped up so intensely for 2 years took its toll. I've probably never been hyped more for a game since Diablo II and I guess I never will again.
Then the game finally went gold in june 2000, which couldn't have been a better time. I just finished my fourth year of highschool (I was 16 then I think) which was an ordeal. So being able to play the game of my dreams in a summer with oceans of time was like paradise compared to the shit year I just had.
The game didn't dissapoint either, even considering my unbelievable levels of hype, the game managed to deliver, and then some. God damn, from the beauty of that character select screen, to the awesome first act, the kick-ass music in the second act, to the atmosphere enhancing cutscenes, Diablo II had it all. I think that's what I love most about the Diablo games, their feel and vibe is just so unique. It's an awesome world to be in. World of Warcraft's orcs and elves just aren't the same. Diablo is something special. I'm kind of worried they will not be able to recreate it with Diablo III, considering Matt Uelmen's departure from Blizzard, but we will see.
Anyway, I've played a lot of Diablo II over the past decade. As a game, it's pretty much perfect, so much content and the actual gameplay is immensely satisfying. Though I haven't reached level 99 or got some of the crazy rune-words that are out there, I have no doubt there are very few people who love Diablo 1 and 2 more than I do. Whenever I think of them, the period I played them in, my crazy hype leading up to DII's release, I just get this almost constricting blast of nostalgia.
Like I said, it's hard to put into words, but for me Diablo is more than just a game. It's an enduring work of art with a very special feel and I will always remember it fondly.
Hmm..ok, can I ask why it doesn't feel as polished? bugs?TheExodu5 said:Just a gut feeling, but judging from the state of the beta, I don't think the game is going to hit this year. The game does not feel nearly as finished/polished as SC2 did when it went to beta.
Fuck man. Crushing my dreams here. I want them to take their time, but I'm really getting my hopes up to have this come winter break =/TheExodu5 said:Just a gut feeling, but judging from the state of the beta, I don't think the game is going to hit this year. TheExodu5 said:It's not just balance that's missing. Menu options are missing, one menu in particular is completely blank, error messages are simple codes, auction house can't be sorted. On top of that, It feels like some things haven't really been tested at all, such as multiplayer town portals (there's no way to just open up a portal without going to town), and the ability to skill swap at any time.
That being said, a lot of these things might be superficial and fixable in a matter of days. It just doesn't feel as polished as the SC2 beta did.

Were you part of the F&F beta for SC2 as well?TheExodu5 said:Just a gut feeling, but judging from the state of the beta, I don't think the game is going to hit this year. The game does not feel nearly as finished/polished as SC2 did when it went to beta.
I wish I was in to get a better feel but I'm addicted to watching youtube and streams of the beta heh, other than the DH looking comparaatively weaksauce the only real bugs I've seen are a couple of missing mob names and lore soundbites and a few bad pathing issues for bookcases and chests. Same sort of stuff would pop up in wow beta's and on the test realms for patches now and then.TheExodu5 said:I had no idea. ;_;
Oh, the state of the beta is just fine. Everything is still incredibly polished. I'm simply comparing this to other Blizzard betas. Like I said, this is more of a gut feeling than anything.
I've been playing super speed run mode D II and enjoying it. It is a drastic change of pace from most games today.Yoshichan said:I was actually about to edit my original post, explaining how I feel about this compared to Diablo II. As a game, I truly do feel that it's got just as much potential as LoD. Here's the tricky part that's been bothering me though... D3 will not be affected by nostalgia in a long, long time. We need to remind ourselves that part of what made D2 so good to us was the fact that most of us were very young back then, and we played 12+ hours a day with our friends. Amazing shit like that is extremely hard to replicate for some of us (most of this is due to lack of time).
I'm positive that D3 will turn out just as you plan on making it. Spend time with it, gather up some friends, play it like you used to back in the days. Because I sure as fucking hell will relive the same stuff I did in D2 back in the days.

How much did you play (I'm not really sure what Starter Edition includes)? Pretty much all games that hit late end (i.e. has a lot of units/buildings) get massive FPS hits. Some of the UMS are also like that. I can't comment how D3 would be like though.red731 said:So I downloaded and finished Starcraft 2 Starter Edition and kinda want to buy the full game even though I don't play rts games, but this hooked me...
If I can play it on my laptop somewhat medium in 1080p fullscreen windowed(lying on bed, 40"TV), then I am not afraid anymore if I can play D3 on high with maybe, the exception of higher shadows.
This all may seem like I am brown nosing Blizzard but hey, what would we, hyped lunatics, who are watching every stream that is playing wouldn't do right.
Also, this is crazy and they are torturing us so much. I never was like this before. TY and FU you Blizzard
Just until the fifts campaign mission, but both games are very differenet in what will they need. So I am pretty sure I will be fine. I watched many SC2 streams with commentary from SC HD and I know how hectic it could get when playing.MooMoo said:How much did you play (I'm not really sure what Starter Edition includes)? FieryBalrog said:But, Diablo is a lot more "controlled". I imagine this might be one reason they are going for 4 players max. Already in some of the streams, two level 13 players using flashy skills can get kinda chaotic to see what's going on.

Wolfwood0 said:The fact that there is just no way in the beta for me to experience harder difficulty or pvp kind of kills my only complaint of class balance and overall easiness. Just no way to test if my complaints are legit in this small section of play.
Pixel Pete said:They aren't neglecting to test it. They are just testing it in-house =\
They'll have to do it the same way they debugged the SC2 single player and any game not named WoW.MrKnives said:One thing that concerns me is that how many bugs they have found in beta. It's a good thing that they are found but that's only 1/3 of Act 1, how the rest of the game will do?

Castor Krieg said:I remember Blizzard mentioning that PvP will not be balanced, at least not in the way WoW is i.e. Arenas in DIII are supposed to be fun, not competitive.
1up said:Just got into the beta yesterday and I am loving it so far. So many quality of life improvements over Diablo 2. I know this game is just going to eat my time up when it comes out. I finished the beta in about 2 and a half hours and immediately afterwards installed Diablo 2 to keep getting my fix.
MrKnives said:Why not grind the beta with all the characters and find things to report to blizzard! We who don't have the beta are getting are fix with D2. People in beta shouldn't.
