Don't worry Corky, I didn't know what ladder was either until recently repurchased Diablo 2. I had to look it up when I made my character.
I requested access to the list of beta folks, I already have a couple of you on my friends list.
Also, at this point, I still plan on rolling DH day one, so if anyone will have me, I'd love to pve and pvp!

I just played through the beta many times in succession! I've played through with barb, wizard, witch doctor so far. I loved both the barb and wizard. Witch doctor...not so much. I'll probably do a quick monk playthrough tonight. I'll likely be picking between a monk and barb for launch (I want to avoid going wizard, as sorc was always my first ladder char in d2).

That's why I called it a gut feeling. Like I said, most of the issues are pretty superficial, and not really indicative of much. I've also never been in an F&F before, so I don't actually know what state SC2 was in during the F&F.
Anyways, sorry it's been so long coming (had a LAN over the weekend, and a buddy came over to check out the D3 beta yesterday), but I promise I'll get some performance analysis in tonight! I'll probably have to downclock my GPU to get a better idea of performance. My GTX 570 seems to constantly max the game at 100fps (and I certainly never dropped below 60fps).

I'm assuming you have an i5 750 or 760, I had a 760 in my last pc and I loved it, I think I got lucky because my chip breezed to 3.8 OC with low voltages. Nonetheless it really doesn't seem that the game is that demanding.

It kinda does, not completely though. I can feel how the framerate slightly goes below 60 during intense fights. It's like in SCII (I play everything on the lowest), when it's 200/200 vs 200/200 I'll feel that the game is below 60. Same thing with Diablo 3.Corky said:

Well, if you want to have an idea, just open task manager and go to the performance tab. Leave it there while you play some D3. After a bit of <60fps slowdown, go back to the performance tab and see if any of the cores are capping out at 100%. That's a sign of a CPU bottleneck.
If this is anything like SC2, it's probably going to be CPU bound. Blizzard games still only make use of one core (and a tiny bit of a second core...for the sound engine, I believe).
You know guys, I've been building my own pc's for years and haven't ever really dabbled in overclocking other than specific auto-overclocking via software. (I'm sure this isn't the best way to go about it) Does anyone have a Beginner's guide to gpu and cpu overclocking they could point me too?

*So far the system has ran great since I built it with one small caveat, if the pc ever shuts down via power loss or system crash it will require me to change the memory speeds in the bios in order to get past the windows loading screen. It doesn't always happen, but once in a blue moon. I can actually set the speeds to exactly what they were and it will boot again. It's odd.
Anyhow, sorry for the derail, just seems to be some knowledgeable people in here and I'd love to maximize my diablo performance when I pick up either a U2711 or U3011 this next year. Thanks!
