It hasn't started yet so just opt-in through battle.net. If you mean into the F&F beta I suggest getting friends from Blizzard.

Ah, sorry. Didn't know that. So I need to register @ battle.net first...

A few days ago I installed D2 just to get some of the D3 angst out of me (it only made me want to play it more but it was a fun distraction) and just read today that a reset is coming up. No more D2 for me till the reset :P lol. Wish I had known before I started! Actually looking forward to playing this ladder season and it should keep me entertained for a while... unless a beta invite comes my way by some fluke chance...

D3 can't come soon enough.

Don't worry Corky, I didn't know what ladder was either until recently repurchased Diablo 2. I had to look it up when I made my character. :D

I requested access to the list of beta folks, I already have a couple of you on my friends list.

Also, at this point, I still plan on rolling DH day one, so if anyone will have me, I'd love to pve and pvp!

I'm totally up for some GAF love. However my biggest problem is just to avoid completely shutting out gaf when it launches. I also have a few workmates who want to play, I'm expecting some killer LANs at work, but, no offense to them, I don't think they will play d3 as long as I will....GAF will likely be my long term source of comrades.

edit: My Internet finally decided to load Hazaros pic... what's the story behind Foxer hugging Losira?
MKP being MKP?

So two questions in my mind

1. Release in 2011 pretty damn unlikely, right?

2. My chances of getting invited to the beta? I've completed StarCraft II on regular and am somewhere around 20 in WoW, so not hardcore like most here.

It's actually looking very likely.

Low, at least early on. They said this is going to be a small beta. But they also said they will periodically invite more and even replace old testers as people quit playing, as is inevitable with the small amount of content to be tested.

Unknown. Last chance for them to announce a 2011 release would be Blizzcon, October 21-22. They might announce it earlier - Cataclysm release was given two weeks before Blizzcon 2010, not to mention the real release date was teased in May 2010.

You progress in Blizzard games has nothing to do with chances to get in the beta. It's a combination of hardware configuration they want to test it on + luck.

Well, I haven't really tested GPU at all, but just a quick grab of my CPU usage shows that this game is definitely going to be CPU bound for most people. This is using a Core i5 2500K @ 4.4GHz (yeah, I clocked it down a tiny bit).

dat lack of optimization

Cut from 4 cores down to 2 and 1 and see if you get a FPS hit at 1080p high settings pls
(Then lower clockspeed to 3.0/3.5) :D

Ummm. Major bug?

I turned off vsync to see where I'd reach my bottleneck. I was getting ~90-120fps. Here's the utilization:

d3cpu2.png

That doesn't make any sense at all. Looks like I might have a bug report to fill out.

Turned off SLI. Ran it without vsync again. Here's the usage now:

I am very, very confused.

Also, with SLI on, the fps doesn't appear to be capped. With SLI off, it's capped at 100fps. Performance doesn't scale whatsoever with SLI.

Googled for info about the sandbox. There are no enemies or anything in it, all you can do is walk around town. Cool if you want to see how it runs on your system I suppose...

you can also use skills, presumably only level 1 skills? who knows. for many, it's better than nothing.

edit: yeah apparently it's DH only, level 1 skills only, and tristram only. no mobs. Slow and steady eh?

I played with it for a minute before I went to work. Not sure I will go back tbh, seems pointless because it's only DH - no mobs - only town - can't talk or do anything - spells don't work properly.
Only real benefit I got from it is that it works great on High settings with 1920x1080 resolution on my computer. My computer sucks >_>
Then again the uselessness of this comes along and crushes that too, doubt it will be good framerates when there is > 30 mobs attacking me.

It's certainly going to be a while before they can get an actual client running. I imagine emulating the monster AI is going to pose a significant problem.

1. Start with a small sample audience to test stability.
2. Take bug and crash report feedback; act on them quickly.
3. Release new patches to make some very necessary changes in the small test environment.
4. Keep testing stability while adding new battle.net/infrastructure components.

5. If everything is running incredibly smooth after steps 1-4, invite people from the general public to open the flood gates on stress testing and get focused gameplay feedback/bug reports.
This is a very layman’s description, but the point is we have to slowly throttle in more people to test the game as we continue to create new builds and work out new battle.net functionality. Once the environment is stable and many of the core features are there, we then start to invite the masses.

I’d feel remiss in not mentioning this: we absolutely want everyone to play this game as soon as possible. But to make that a reality, we must first excel in both content and deliverance. (So let’s put on our classics and we’ll have a little dance, shall we?)

I’m guessing we are on step 4 right now?
Zarhym - Basically, yea. We’re getting really close! That’s the good news.

What's this of a ladder reset? Is it every March and Sept or did they announce it? Going to kill my group of friends' pandemonium event aspirations if a reset is happening.

If you are talking about D2 then yes ladder reset is inbound

Sorry if old. Some Barb armor look. Don't know if it's only me but this reminds me more of Paladin than Barb really.

I do like the knight look, knights are cool and all but this is almost to much.

I guess the last one reminds me a little of this

Reset is most likely going to be Sept 28th or 29th.

Wow, where did you find these? Is there any images for the other classes?

Enjoy it!

Even thou you are one decade late :P
xD

I am enjoying it, although I'm still really feeling my way. First character, level 13 Necromancer - just playing through the SP on normal. Ninja skelegon squad FTW!

If you want to emulate more players in SP game you can.
It will give you better loot, stronger monsters and more xp.

Press enter and type /players 8
Do it in town or in wilderness and then get back to town for it to take effect.

Thanks, I've seen that mentioned. I think once I'm happy with the way the game plays (the only other game I've played similar to this really, at least on PC, is Torchlight which is obviously a very streamlined experience by comparison) I'll give that a whirl.

Hardest part I find at the moment is realising when I'm going to die! Usually I realise when it's too late.

No need to die too often. Just have potions in your belt + have biggest belt you can find for more room.
If sh** gets crazy press ESC, save and quit :D
You can make town portals as your "save points", they'll be in town when you die.
And so on...

I had no idea you could increase belt size! :o

I do know about the town portals though, I just need to get into the routine of using them. Shame I can't have more than two active skills at a time though, I think the biggest learning curve for me has been switching skills on the fly.

In fact, now that I think about it, I don't really need the main attack bound to left click as the only clicking I need to do after my summons are out is amplify damage/corpse explosion.

AFAIK, F1-F12 keys can be used as hotkeys. Open Left/Right skill panel, move your cursor over a desired skill, and press F1-F12. BAM!

Yeah, I've got those bound to the number keys because my hand sits there more naturally (thanks WoW!) and I have the belt rebound to F1-F4 currently. All they do is switch the powers though, right? I can't actually activate them without first switching, then clicking, then (if necessary) switching back? I realise it wouldn't be feasible any other way as there's no specific targeting system outside of the mouse.

I guess it's just a LONG time since I've basically had to start from scratch to learn the basics of how to play a game. Pretty much all games now, even those that are somewhat innovative, use a variation of one well defined control scheme or another.

You can put town portal on F number or anything too. Just click the right skill and hover over skill you want to keybind to whatver you can - in your case to F keys.

I had F keys for skill and normaly, the 1-4 for potions. 1,2,3 health and 4 mana, then rejuventaion on everything.
Also numeric pad is used to say things in MP.
You can set the map to your liking be it on full, in top left right corner, faded or normal...

Blad bla bla, play it and learn xD I am learning Starcraft 2 too :D
