What... I really think you overthought all this.

When you left click on an enemy, you auto-attack with your current equipped weapon.
If there is no enemy where you just left clicked, you attempt to move there.

Now, if a bow shoots an arrow every 2 seconds for 100-200 damage (those are its stats, let us assume), and you hold left click on a mob that survives more than one shot, you will shoot it repeatedly until it dies.

The aforementioned passive skill makes your auto attacks do double damage - so in my example, 200-400 instead. It doubles the damage of your shoots.

Every skill of yours, however, DOES something. If it does "less than 100%" of weapon damage, that can easily scale later on in the game into more than 100%, and then some. There have been many skills like that in these type of games.

Well thats not really the question though. I guess a better question is:

"What is the damage calculation for a Demon Hunters Basic Attack"

If the damage calc for a demon hunters basic attack (Which has no resource cost, and in fact generates 15 Hatred) is [100% weapon damage], and the passive skill doubles this, effectively making the damage of a Demon Hunters basic attack [200% weapon damage] then does this mean that the Active skill 'Impale' (which deals 220% weapon damage un-runed) only deals 20% more weapon damage than a basic attack, for the cost of 20 hatred?

Do you see what I mean? I understand that skills can be runed for more damage or additional effects, but it seems alot like 20% more weapon damage is such a meager benefit over your free attack for the cost of 20% of your major offensive resource. The situation gets even weirder when you look at Evasive Fire, a skill that deals 135% weapon damage. That would be less than the 200% the basic attack does.

I suppose fire rate would play a huge part in that, as well as how fast active skills can be triggered.

Crap. I don't have an email yet and I can't check my Battle.net account since my iPod (authenticator) is in my room (at library now) and dead at the moment, but if I did get in...

Dear God - I was planning on getting stuff done this week. Self Control. Seeeelf Controoool.

I've already seen enough beta footage to be bored with it somewhat, so it may be easier than it would be otherwise.

Still stuck at work for another 50 minutes before I can go home and check my B.net account to find out I didn't get into the beta.... T_T

I'm sure they are still sending these invites from the first public wave...right? RIGHT?!

Also, this thread should be named, "It began with a Diablo 3 beta discussion and ended with 20 long pages of FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"

Just spent the last 30 min trying to access my battle.net account from my phone, just to find out that I also didn't get into the beta :(.

Oh - and unrelated to the Beta going live, but something I noticed, then forgot about...

Anyone else notice that the female Barbarian is less ugly in-game than she originally was in the concept art/2008 first gameplay footage?

She's no supermodel or anything, but they at least improved the hair somewhat so you're not going "ew" every time you look at her.

People are all screaming "FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU" but has any significant amount of invites actually been sent out? I'm not really seeing anybody saying they got in, and I really doubt that the beta would be quite so limited. Who knows :-/

*see's beta news*

*Logs into Battlenet*

*spies Diablo's face and cheers*

*squints and notices its Diablo 2*

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! *sobs*

I have seen people get keys but they are mainly a part of the press. Only one guy so far which was on Reddit has got a key and was not a part of the press. If Blizzard are sending mass emails with beta keys they will take some time to be sent out so I wouldn't lose hope yet.

so did anyone here actually get a key?

maybe, maybe we it'll take a bit for the codes to actually go out

RIGHT? :(

Is anyone else having problems logging into battle.net? It keeps saying "login failed" after I enter my authenticator code. I reset my password to make sure I had it right and my authenticator's serial number is still the same. Other than lots of traffic I can't understand what could be wrong.

Sync your authenticator (at least if it's the app, not sure if you can do this on the keychain.)

If you haven't used it in a long time, or for some reason it just fails, you need to re-sync.

I've had this issue multiple times and syncing always did the trick after being puzzled for a minute or two.

Only NA residents are getting into the first waves of the non FnF beta right?

I don't have the link but this is what I remember from an official post/blue :

- Limited beta, not many participants
- NA first out, then slowly, other zones get their keys.

Help me stress test Oceania!

Don't they send keys in waves?

yeah, because it's a small amount of content, people will peel off when they have had their fill of beta gameplay and can't stand to kill the skeleton king again. When those numbers get low, more invites go out.

Also, they are presumably testing the server hardware in increments. When they handle x number of people without fault, they will add another x new players to stress it some more.

How do I know if I got into the beta or not? I checked my battle.net account but nothing's changed. Do they let me know if I'm not chosen for the beta?

Lots of people from past betas and even during the D3 friends and family reported seeing the game in their battle.net account before receiving the actual email...sometimes days before getting the email.
