I don't understand why Blizzard is taking so fucking goddamned long to invite people.
Normally no. But when you don't have enough spirit or fury or mana the default attack comes out.dLMN8R said:So can someone explain, as a Monk, why I would ever want to use my normal melee attack?
From what I understand, equipping two weapons gives the damage and speed from those weapons to the primary attacks that give you aura (or whatever it's called), but I don't ever see why I'd want to use the actual melee attacks...
Let me rephrase.dLMN8R said:But even the worst skills *generate* mana, instead of using it.
Is it because better skills use it instead of generating it?
Beta doesn't have Runes or Gems.Jasconius said:Having gotten to play Diablo III at the last 4 blizzcons, I guess I can wait until the retail release... (OK not really I actually started playing Diablo II to cover it up!)
However I have a question for those who are in the beta, and that is how does the rune skill system feel? I didn't get a chance to really mess with it at the latest Blizzcon because you don't get to play for very long, don't get very many drops, but it was an absolute BLAST messing around with it in what, 2008? 2009? I'm just curious if it is still a ton of fun finding new runes and messing around with the skills!
I don't really want to look around at sites because I will get myself way too re-hyped for the game coming out >_<
Awesome now I don't even care if I get in!Lathentar said:Beta doesn't have Runes or Gems.

It actually feels completely unbalanced in the favor of the player. Not really digging the approach to difficulty here honestly. I didn't feel that I had to put much effort at all into playing the game at all, and there wasn't much satisfaction in beating any of the enemies since it felt like an autogame. I'm not sure how the other classes work, but I'm not digging all the dumbing down they did for the game so far. Infinite ammo, health pick-ups, enemy mobs that don't seem particularly aggressive or grouped to actually cause significant concern to player. It's really weird, but I feel that something is definitely off about the entire experience. I wasn't even breaking a sweat before I got the follower in the end dungeon, but after I got him it was a total joke. I can't imagine playing this in multiplayer at this difficulty at all, since it wouldn't even be a real game at that point.
Castor Krieg said:You played on Normal, Blizzard already said Normal is for people to finish the game while playing without brain. It's just for them to see the content and story. There are 3 more difficulties to go after that.
Well it IS the defense that blizzard used at this most recent blizzcon, but there's another important thing to note: they did a comparison of two sets of footage: old tristram road in D3, and blood moor in D2, both normal. As you'll recall, in blood moor, all you fight is like, zombies and quill fiends. not very dangerous. Also, what we see of the beta is like, a quarter of the first act. To use the D2 comparison again, the game doesn't typically pick up the pace until late act 1 at the earliest, usually act 2, and doesn't get legitimately difficult until Duriel.duckroll said:This is the same shitty defense that people used for DMC4. If they designed the standard difficulty to be played without a brain, they should at least make the harder difficulties selection right from the start. Are they going to change that from how Diablo 2 worked? because honestly, if you're forced to complete the game on Normal first before unlocking Hard, Nightmare, and Hell, and Normal is accurately represented by the beta, then I am seriously reconsidering my Diablo 3 purchase even though I've been a HUGE fan of Blizzard all these years.

Your also only playing the first quarter of the first act in the game, I don't think the difficulty that early is will translate to the later acts like in Diablo 2, the first act was fairly easy up until the boss than it started to get harder. I would assume it will be exactly the same in Diablo 3.duckroll said:This is the same shitty defense that people used for DMC4. duckroll said:Went through the beta with the Wizard today. Much better experience. The game is still easy, but it isn't completely brain dead with this class at least. The different things the spells do keeps stuff interesting at least, and there's at least a reason to equip different skills just to add variety to the fun.
I was surprised to see the blacksmith carrying over from character to character on the same account. It's useful, but kinda illogical at the same time. What happens if I want to play a fresh new game though? Is there a way to reset the stash and blacksmith without it fucking up my other characters? Will there be no way to play completely offline and have different save files for each character?
You're technically not allowed, but I'm sure people do it, people account shared with sc2 as well and I don't know that it turned into a huge thing. Obviously if you're going to do so, be smart about it, don't have your friend in NYC log in 30 seconds after you log out in LA. I honestly don't know how much cracking down blizz has done or will do, but they can and will track your IP if only for just general security purposes to prevent account theft.mcrae said:are people allowed to account share the beta? can i play on someone elses account or will it get banned?
Valnen said:Very fast. Reinstalled my video card drivers and the blue screens went away, but I still freeze up on occasion. But it's a lot more playable now. Got my first skeleton king kill in.
This game...videos do not do it justice. This is a true Diablo sequel...and will probably be one of the best PC games of all time, talked about for years to come just like Diablo 2 was. If they can tune the difficulties correctly I can easily see myself playing this for years and years.

I think it feels pretty weird too, but given that you can use the stash to so easily transfer items between your characters, most people would just trade the materials and training tomes to the one character in order to max the blacksmith. Not only that, you can easily craft something on one character's blacksmith and transfer it. This simply cuts out the middle man.duckroll said:I was surprised to see the blacksmith carrying over from character to character on the same account. Those are some solid crossbows. Mine are 15.8 dps and 16.4 dps and I don't have any rare items other than my crafted belt.
Did you find them by doing your runs? I thought it was kind of silly that you were talking about good mf runs last night and now I am wanting to do the same thing. :O
My barb is around 110 dps.
The thing is, D2 was exactly the same. Did anyone (who had played anything remotely similar) have any trouble doing Blood Raven? The Den of Evil is right click your way through totally non-threatening monsters...duckroll said:I rolled a female Demon Hunter. The entire first run through the beta took about 2 hours. Now, on to what I did like about my first run through the beta. I like how the game retains a lot of the UI and feel of Diablo 2 very faithfully. The controls feel right at home, and the perspective, graphics, animations, sound, etc are all pretty Diablo-ish. This is something that other games like Torchlight try to mimic, but don't really nail down. I like the looting, the subtle variations in all equipment that can be found, etc. The combat feedback "feels" right as well, and I did have fun with this range class. The overall presentation is pretty nice, and it's a smooth experience.
So yeah, I'm kinda conflicted here. Visuals and audio seem to have nailed it, but the gameplay left me rather lukewarm. I'll try out some other classes tomorrow and see what it's like. I think it's kinda unfortunate that there isn't an option to play the beta on much harder difficulties, because if the intention is to let players of different levels try the game out and give feedback, I can't see the current demo satisfying any hardcore Diablo fans. It feels more like a demo for newbies. The lack of challenge in the beta segment also makes it hard for me to really get a feel for the skill system or explore any changes to the death penalty, etc. It really feels kinda... empty and hollow for me.![]()

I'd never played an aRPG before in my life and I had no trouble at all in the D2 beta (which was till Blood Raven).
