Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

Does the Monk still have that fugly spell where a huge bell drops to the ground and the Monk tilts it? On a video it looked so out of place...

The bell spell does look kinda out of place for a Diablo game.

EDIT: Maybe its just that there isnt that much music so far. The normal areas around old tristram seem to just have ambient noises mixed with really quiet music. Cathedral seems a little low key as well, except for the intro. Game is really fun so far, havent run into too many glitches.

Yeah the first thing I did when I started up the beta was lower SFX to 40%. I found out that 40% seems to be the perfect balance :) And Cathedral music is FUCKING AMAZING, I'm actually humming to it right now!

Finished it with the Demonhunter a little bit ago. Play time says 10 hours, O.o that flew by if it's right. Really like the feel of the class.

Question about performance, is the overworld really laggy for anyone else? Framerate would be a rock solid 60fps but it seemed the game was struggling to stream in the background while walking around, in dungeons it was fine. Even in town, it would be jerky until I walked around the entire town, then it would be fine.

Yes, a lot. I put it down to being in the UK and the servers in the US, not sure where you are?

I get about 200ms on average and as said, won't be buying D3 until they confirm EU server centre will be used (the one they have for WoW) as I got about 30ms playing WoW.

If it's not some kind of overwolrd lag then I assume it's just the engine not being fully optimized as yet, but I do notice it far more outside than in the dungeons.

I can't stress enough though, the online only thing is shit, I get the idea of authentication but when it effects the gameplay of a SP game it's asshattery imho.

Since they insist on it being online only, I think it's safe to say that Blizzard will have some European servers running once the game launches.

It is actually INSANE to even suggest that Blizzard does not want to have EU servers available. It is one of the craziest suggestion of all time, honestly. What makes anyone think that it is even a possibility?

Yeah, wtf guys?

I get 500-700ms latency to eu servers :<
If 200ms is already noticeable, then its disheartening news.

Well here's hoping they'll do a south african server, or it's going to be a long damn wait for a proper emulator, if one ever comes out.

Today is the final day for D3 invites via Facebook. Good Luck to everyone that entered. I hope I get in this last round.

Just noticed that the Netherlands is not among the list of eligible countries. Wonder whether that's been the trouble all along.

Any Dutchies get in here yet?

Yep, got my invite last friday. Have done 1 walkthrough with the Monk, now going for a wizard run!

Had some lag yesterday afternoon (500 ms latency), but mostly I get 200ms and it's been pretty lag free!

Guess that means SCII will be the only Blizzard beta I've been in so far. Fuck. I've had DIII Beta installed for a month and a half now.

It's depressing, I've been in every single Blizzard beta since WoW launched but not this one... the one I REALLY wanted :(

There are no EU based beta servers. All beta servers are located in US regardless of what the server name implies.

Is it possible to get the Error 37 without being in beta?

I try to log in every day to see if I have been invited, but this weekend I started to get Error 37, the server full error. Usually I would get a message about no Diablo 3 license on the account.

So which message comes first? Server full, or no D3 license?

I am still hoping they offer the option to invite a friend to the beta. For Starcraft II it was great to be able to invite someone you to know to test the game with.

So far my online play for Diablo III has been limited to playing with strangers.

The issue I'm experiencing, that only happens on the overworld sections, is not due to latency. It very much seems like the game is struggling to load assets before I get to them, then stutters while it scrambles to do so. Dungeons, zero jerkiness while walking around.

yeah, this is a known issue. my game is stutters hardcore for the first 2-3 minutes I play. Blizzard's response:

Apparently there is an issue where the first time your game sees a new game asset (a new monster, a new zone, etc.) they game will try to load that asset. The problem is, the game is installed and has that asset, so the "stuttering" is your game trying to figure out what to do.

Most of this stuttering will happen at the beginning of the game. Once your game has this data and figured out what to do with the assets, the game should play normally.

This is currently fixed internally and unfortunately did not make it into this Beta patch. I have updated my Known Issues thread to mention this issue. Hopefully the Beta will be patched again in the future so we can attempt to fix this issue.

Thank you for your report guys, and please spread the word to others about this issue.

Finished the beta over the weekend for the first time. I really like the Barbarian, game is amazing I just want MORE damn you MORE.
I finally realized why I love the barbarian so much... you know the small camera-shake that happens when you hit an enemy? Yeah, that's it.

I've played thru the beta the second time as a Barbarian. While I would typically shy away melee type classes the ability to get directly in the heat of battle made it an enjoyable experience.

Capping out at level 13 leaves the feeling that you have just scratched the surface of the game!

that, and the sound effects. you can FEEL those hits.
Hell yes. If there's something that Diablo 3 does right, it's the sound effects. Compared to D2, you actually feel those hits. There were only maybe 2 (?) attacks in D2 that actually felt like it did a lot of damage.

Apparently its an issue with the current client itself:

Yes! Oh man, do a sweep kick with the monk...combined with the physics of the enemies actually lifting off the ground at times/crashing into destructible objects, you can really feel the impacts.

I like how I can be a Monk and still use blades as well as knuckle weapons.

Man whoever thought the game wouldnt "feel" like Diablo...you guys are going to eat a crow buffet when the game finally releases. The environments are suitably creepy too, due to the well done surround sound and the art style in general.

It feels more Diablo 2 than the actual Diablo 2!

Wait... what?

dat base DPS (not mine)

Too bad it will all be gone when our chars get wiped again. That is why i'm not doing SK speed runs with new chars to get those guaranteed rare drops... or am I?

Update: Been playing with a two handed frenzy barb and have my DPS up to 180 before my shout. Mowing through mobs with frenzy at full speed and keeping the chain going feels superb. MMM Jar of Souls

Yeah, I'm just slightly disappointed with Frenzy as of right now. It's probably going to be much better when you socket it (it was either faster attack speed, more duration or harder attacks, right?).

edit: Yep!
