Browsing through the MPQ files I see that the RecipesBlacksmith.gam file has a recipe buried deep within it for a "Smith_StaffofCow"

:D

Can't wait to see the new Cow Level.

It seems pretty obvious that there'd be a cow something. Maybe a full level, maybe not, maybe just a number of amusing references. I'd really like to see a secret quest hub where the cow king sends you on quests to save his people, and all the quest text would be moo moo mooo moooooo moo moo....

I just got the Overachiever achievement tonight with the help of Negator, I now have all the achievements in beta, shiny banners galore!

Unicorns and rainbows galore!

I can't believe I'm not in the beta yet. Every email I get from Blizzard is pure joy followed by tears.

Same here. I did get into the Path Of Exile Beta two days ago though. A lot of fun, but every moment just makes me think, "Damn, this would be so much better if it was Diablo." Anyone want to trade beta keys? :-P

I'm getting a bit concerned about this talk of "we think we have a great idea for this deep gameplay system.... which we will develop after we ship the game". :(

Is it just me or do other people not seem to enjoy just killing swathes of monsters any more? Some GAF people friended me but all they seem to want to do is rush the Skeleton King, is that what the cool kids are doing these days?

On the other hand I did just get my first gold item. It's shiny.

I like killing hordes of monsters. My favorite part of Baal runs wasn't killing Baal for phat loot, it was slaughtering the hundreds of enemies along the way to him. It's why I rarely did Pindleskin runs, too boring. I actually used to love running the jungle in Act III, all those little flayers and monsters to kill! (plus, grand charms) And the River of Flames before Diablo was another favorite. It's one of the reasons why I'm so excited that they are minimizing boss runs in Diablo3 by having an Inferno difficulty where every monster has a chance to drop anything. Hopefully it will make killing monsters by the hundreds just as profitable as killing the bosses alone would be.

Wish a new beta wave would happen, seems like no one is getting into the beta right now.

That's what Diablo was always about. Rush the boss, get loot, repeat. I know Blizzard is trying to change it with D3, we will see if they succeed.

It won't change. It just doesn't make sense. Boss's are going to have the largest loot tables with the highest chance of rarer loot.

The only way that this will change is if all loot had an equal chance to drop across all creatures. This would have an adverse and opposite effect however. People wouldn't even bother with bosses. The easiest available mobs would be farmed over and over again for the quickest possibility of loot.

They are? They seem pretty happy with trying to nail the same feeling that Diablo 2 had. There's nothing in the beta or in any of the interviews and developer comments I've read which indicates they're trying to change it. If you want to magic find, you have to rush the boss.

Guessed as much. Seems like they are cutting some unnecessary fat and focusing on getting the game out. Good, good.

I would be very happy if that was just the case. But they seem to indicate each time they cut something that they actually have a better idea which they will take a long time implementing and add it to the game later. It kinda makes me wonder what else they're taking out of the game which we don't know about.

Yeah the talisman, mystic and now companion/forge scrolls. I don't really doubt that we will see some or all those systems make a return in either a patch or an expansion.

And I bet the amount of stuff they've cut/changed must be huge. The fact that they are still tinkering with core game mechanics this late in development leads me to believe this.

Hey Danj, I was grouped with you earlier and honestly, when I play solo, I kill everything. I break everything. Seems like when grouping it's usually a boss rush for sure.

I don't think anything is what the cool kids are doing, but with the beta in particular most folks have seen it all many, many times. Anyhow, if we group again down the road and you wanna take it slow, I'm all about it. Just say so! :D

It also makes me wonder how many expansions Diablo 3 will have. It sounds like they plan on supporting the game very significantly, and I highly doubt that they'll keep working on the game extensively just to continue selling the same product.

"Bashiok: Bosses will probably still have a better chance to drop nicer items than a regular enemy, but champions and rares are set to have an even better chance.

The goal, of course, is that with Inferno as a flat difficulty (all enemies are the same level) you should be able to go anywhere you like to get items, meaning not just rushing to bosses. To encourage that further, the randomized champions and rares that appear out in the world will have the best chance to drop good items, encouraging exploration and also feeding some of that *gasp!* feeling you get when you see one, and then another *gasp!* when items drop. Bosses tend to only have that second moment, and it’s generally devalued over time due to the repetition.

I think some could argue that they want to have very systematic ways to grind out item drops, and I think we would argue that the vast majority of people do not."

That's actually really really cool. Thank you for linking this I have never seen it till now.

That's a good read. Looks like they are trying to shake things up a bit. Hard to tell with the beta really. Too limited. I love fighting Elites in the beta though. Much more fun than fighting the actual bosses really, since that gets stale.

I don´t know why, but I was under the impression there would be 2 expansions. Don´t remember where I got this from or if I remember wrong.

EDIT: Oh yeah, it was that "leaked" release schedule, where there were 2 expansions planned.

Hmm, I still think it would be a good idea to have the end boss' drop rate increase depending on how much of the content in that particular instance you've completed. That way the incentive would be to clear out as much as possible in good time, and then kill the boss.

i want to play this game so damn bad

is it against any TOS if i use my friends account on my PC to play it? not that any of my friends even have it yet, but heres hoping..

I love this. Loooove it. Can't tell you how much more fun it would be to just farm wherever you want and get excited by the world bosses instead of power-grinding Durance of Hate x 1000.

That seems like a good idea... but it's not like players aren't going to not kill the chapter bosses in favour of random world bosses.

OTOH, people will figure out an optimal percentage of area clearing before making a beeline for the bosses, so it'd still be problematic in the original rinse and repeat manner, but to a lesser degree.

I agree, there was nothing I loved more in WoW than finding the silverdragon around mobs' icons, even if the loot was crap I knew the mob was rare and it made me just want to kill it.

New Beta Patch soon.

Blizzard said:
We're in the process of preparing the Diablo III test server for maintenance to deploy the next beta patch. Maintenance should begin around 1:30 p.m. PST and we anticipate that downtime will last approximately 3 hours, until 4:30 p.m. PST.

This is a relatively small patch containing only a few minor crash fixes. As always, though, patch notes will be posted to the launcher and this forum once the patch is live.

That would all just depend on how much time it takes to do either one. If it takes me 10 minutes to get to and kill a chapter boss, and 10 minutes to kill 7 rares and champions (which have better drop rates), spamming rares and champions is the better route.

I think they straight up said that rare mobs and champions would drop the best loot. There are two tiers of inferno loot, and the best loot drops off randomly generated mobs

Yep, They conveyed the fact that they want to discourage boss runs for loot so they have given rare/champion enemy groups a higher drop level than bosses. (Inferno difficulty only)
