Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

So my brother and I played 2 naked fists only hardcore barbs last night (ProbablyDead and AlreadyDead). Everything was going ok until we ran into a pack of what must have been 25 archers in cathedral lvl 4. From lvl 2 cath onwards we decided that running was the only way to survive the high number of packs and forget about the tomb guardians summoning skeletons. I was down in danger level within about a second, used a healing pot and was dead about 1.5 seconds later. He was able to escape and run to the royal crypt where he was owned by 6 archers right as he opened the door behind the 4 pillars.

The only reason we got that far quickly was being able to stun with the runed bash and the ground stomp. We would take turns using our stomps while each other was on a cool down. I don't think we would have made it that far without those skills. Couple of lvl 8 barbs perished :(

This video is pretty cool, a comparison of Tristram in D1, D2, and D3

Wow, just read about this. You'd think the game would be done by now and complete but guess not. This worries me, but I already have my copy paid in full. Hope it lives up to the memories I had playing DII with my best friend in HS.

Game is basically done. Jay Wilson was just confirmed to have said the arena PVP will be patched in later because the rest of the game is pretty much done and they dont want to punish the solo players by waiting. Im expecting an April-May-June release at latest.

And your D2 memories are nostalgic and nothing will match those.

Tried going back to play Diablo II earlier today.

Game does not scale well with high resolution monitors :/ Unless there are workarounds for it?

There are widescreen hacks. Not sure if those get you banned online.

I just played in the larger small window. Game still has a lot of charm and was fun to work up to 70 something as a new class.

Why don't they just implement a hostile button like in Diablo 2? They can always add specific pvp content later.

DONT USE WIDESCREEN HACKS THESE WILL GET YOU BANNED

Instead use windowed mode! I've been playing Diablo 2 non stop since release and I always use windowed mode.

Protip: Hold ALT (show items button) while teleporting if you don't want to click outside the screen

Last played it just a few weeks ago. My concerns, at least, for Diablo 3 stacking up to Diablo 2 are not based on nostalgia. Just saying.

No PVP makes me depressed. I hope it'll only take a couple of days for Blizzard to implement it because I was planning on massing Arena-games as soon as I turn 60...

Fuck.

Hmm, it's not working at all... I might level another guy up to 10 and see if that solves the problem.
Actually the weird thing is that I didn't level a new character to 10 after patch 14, I had a lv12 sorc that I leveled to 13 and then hardcore mode worked.

Hmm, so basically I should be able to transfer one of my (lvl10+) characters to hardcore? That's not working either, god damn it.

I meant that the option to create a new character in hardcore mode unlocked after that. I don't think you can transfer from normal to hardcore.

Because that was incredibly disruptive for people who wanted to play online in public games with people they didn't know already. The existence of PvP in normal games is basically the reason I stopped playing public games, both in D1 and D2. I'm seriously glad they've taken that shit out.

How long did it take for WoW to get battleground PvP?

I always thought the feeling of terror was fun when some lvl 99 barb joined the game. It was like you were in a real slasher movie.

And you've never tried to gank someone yourself?

All the content for PVP is probably done (maps, interfaces, ranking systems etc.), but with the many recent changes to characters, skills, items and such - it's probably an unbalanced mess at the moment. Monk/Barb 30% damage reduction seems a bit generous for pvp.

I remember blizzard saying how PVP almost ruined WOW, it is impossible to make skills that is cool for PVE but balanced for PVP. Not to mention every time they implement some new items or rune, they will have to do double work since they have to balance it for PVP also.

They could make it optional like Diablo 2 with a hostile button, but once you enable the option to PVP, the player base will eventually cry and demand "balance".

PvP balance doesn't matter much. Just do a cursory normalizing of power and nerf/boost the obviously OP/weak skills.

Eventually there will probably be around 3-5 builds that are ridiculously OP so that everyone just plays that for PvP, and that's good enough for minimal effort and cost. It'll all sort itself out in the end.

Let the millions of players have fun figuring out the ridiculous shit and nerf/buff with patches.

I didn't want that terror. Guaranteed if they've built a PvP character they will kill me, so that's pretty damn boring.

And nope. I'm in Diablo purely for the coop. People 'ganking' people have always been a downside to this series for me. Diablo 1 was the worst with glitches allowing townkilling and such. Fucking firewalls on the spawn point.

Hahaha. Those were interesting times.

Yup. Hostile has no place in Diablo as far as I'm concerned. I hope world PvP is gone for good. That doesn't belong in a game meant for co-op.

Consensual hostile button then. Do you accept duel from player X: Yes/no ?

Diablo 3 is ready for pvp as it is. Not including it is just lame.

Imagine you buy Diablo 3 day one and you start playing from lvl 1 with a friend. At lvl 20 you can both decide: hey let's duel for a bit and then do the next quest.

No, instead Blizzard decided to not include it at all. Lame.

I really wish Diablo 3 was coming to iPad. Like, really really really wish.

Why? What they have planned is much much better. And if they did that and then took it out when the arenas are added, people would bitch. And in the meantime I'd still be stuck with assholes trolling my public games (note: not that everyone who plays PvP is an asshole, but the people who troll around public games looking to slaughter people lower level than them are). This strikes me as losing all around.

Ok...

You lost me.

When I say he lost me I don't mean I don't understand him. I mean he asked me to imagine I'm playing the game, which is fine because I will, and then he asked me to imagine I want to duel with a friend, which I have no interest in doing at all. Not even once across the 15 or whatever years I've been playing the games of this series have I *wanted* to duel. I've been *dragged* into it a few times, though, and that's one of the few blemishes of a series I love.

Some people like to duel. Sometimes it's fun and sometimes people like to have fun with friends.

Can't they like, delay Arena and just add a simple Duel-function? Is it really that hard?

It has to have some resemblance of balance or REMOVED.

It's probably WoW syndrome of having 50,000 people complain on the forums and they don't want 'oh no my barb can't fight wizardsssssss'

The bold part is gonna happen no matter what.

Just release it Blizzard.

It is ready. Release the Kraken Blizzard!

Put in a solid 7 hrs today so far :O

I'm probably going to end up leveling every damn class to 60 and will be playing so much more hardcore than D2.

Chat is bugged, I can see Renta's chat but he can't see mine. Come on Blizzard. Also he can't accept my Friend request still.

edit: Okay LOL, I finally solved the issue of me and Renta not being able to be Friends. It turns out Blizzard added a Block list in a recent patch...and they were thoughtful enough to auto-populate Renta onto it! Thanks a lot Blizzard! /rolleyes

I don't recall seeing the chat ever work.

I wish I could... game can't even go through client now :lol
