That's the thing. I have a shield that gives me 36 int. I'm thinking for now, shields are the way to go. The actual off hands for wizards probably need some tweaking with bigger numbers to match.
I found that on those low levels int isn't necessarily the best thing - for instance my damage meter showed me much more dps with a 2-5 dmg item then with a +11 int one.
1 point of Int gets you only 1% more dmg (iirc) so it's not much when you have a 20 dps weapon.

Could someone please explain in detail how quest- and story-related stuff works when playing co-op? Like, does the host of the game control how the story progresses and when new quests are started, or are all players "equal"? When talking to a quest NPC, will all players see that dialogue, or just the host? And what about the cutscenes that happen at certain points? Etc, etc.
Everyone starts at the same quest as the host, everyone will get the same quests at the same time etc. Talking cutscenes are for everyone, but the character talking is either 1) the one that started the conversation or in some ocasions 2) the one closest to the npc. Everyone can skip dialogues, so don't play with assholes. ;)
Cinematics are for you only (i don't know if you even can be kicked out of them).

I've enjoyed this so far. Still on ACT 1 ~lvl12, but me and my friend are taking our time. We don't feel rushed, we don't want to be 'first' so just having a good time exploring and fighting.

Had idea to build a 'Treasure Hunter' style character (gear with lots of +money +magic item stats) to use when we get a group of 4 together.

I've been playing this strategy regarding crafting/AH:

I've salvaged every rare/blue that I didn't need, right now I have hundreds of subtle essences and around 50 tooths. Probably going to dump all of them on the AH (looking to make around 15k-20kish)
I haven't spent a single coin upgrading my artisan, instead I buy nice crafts from the AH. Saves me the trouble to spend money and materials crafting crappy items or not for my class.
I'm saving 20-30k to upgrade my stash, since I'm going to need the full space in a couple of weeks (only way to keep drops/items after death in HC mode, which I play)

Sorry to ask a vague question but does anyone have a link or can provide an explanation as to why you stick with a specific build for inferno mode its some kind of rep, but the name escapes me.

Thank you.

Well, keep in mind that it's part of a damage multiplier that acts off weapon. This means that it's adjusted by skill damage modifiers as well.

...but, yes, chances are that +2-3 damage at low levels will just be better overall since it's such a huge value vs your base damage range.

Seriously :(

Who knew I'd be so boring compared to teenage me with Diablo 2.

it really is nearly impossible to have the same love affair with this as d2 because of age difference.

14 yo summer of 2001 me spent 18 hours straight in d2 tieing up our land line, only to have it kicked off by the phone company because of a death in the family and people trying to contact us for the better part of that time period :/

i'm looking forward to a not-so-busy weekend
probably a month or two away :(
when i'll actually be able to sink some time into it.

I'm gonna play co-op with a friend tonight, but since I haven't beaten the game on my own yet I'd hate just being "along for the ride". I want the full experience of the story and all of that, will I be able to? Would be thankful if someone would clarify all this!

All players get complete control. Anyone can push a quest forward, and it pushes it forward for all the players. If someone initiates a quest-related dialogue, then all of the other players who are at least in the vicinity see the dialogue too.

shit man, sucks to be an adult, I'd love to spend all day playing like when I was 15. Instead I have to go to the office, spend 9 hours+ there, organize everything at home, dinner, and THEN I can play 2-3h before going to sleep :(

Well, at least I don't have kids or pets to care of.

This is my exact situation. Except I do have kids. The 2-3 hours I get to play is after they go to bed at night.

Message to everyone who PMs me in-game and doesn't get responses back
I'm playing the game with friends right now + skype with another person, so I can't really reply you back :( Sorry. I will accept friend invite though of course!

You playing barb? or you have multiple high levels already?

E: This wasn't what you were asking at all, haha.

Beat the game a few hours ago with a buddy. Finished with a lvl 31 DH with 518 DEX attacking for 670dps. My glass cannon dh teamed with my buddy's barb worked out great. On to NM.

I already know this is my game of the year even with the server issues. Hundred Fists with monk alone seals it for me. Played FFXI for 6 years on and off, and h2h Monk was my favorite class thanks to hundred fists.

As a monk, you want to equip your best weapons regardless of the weapon type because your attack damage is based on your weapon damage, right? I'm still in Act 1, so maybe as the game moves on the Monk specific weapons will bubble up to the top but right now I'm running around with a dagger and a shield and, as stupid and superficial as it may sound, I hate the way it looks. I kind of wish the weapons weren't visible unless they are fist weapons or staffs.

I am with you on this one, and the diffreance between us is i have 2 kids, i play like 1 to 2 hours at night, sucks to be an adult thats for sure, but the plus side is i dont need money from parents to go and buy games and such.

Has there been any comment on missing achievements?

I lost half of mine from last night.

I now have the achievement for leveling up the blacksmith, but I'm missing the one for gaining him.

edit: Ok I saw the post on the blizzard forums. I hope it can be resolved.

GAF I need your help. My game stutters frequently when moving around and there appears to be no real reason for it. No in-game setting will help, reducing everything to the lowest possible value does nothing. I always get a constant 60 fps framerate as well.

I have a Radeon 6670 and a Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz. Fresh install of Windows with the latest drivers. Does anyone have any idea???

Yeah, weapon type itself offers no inherent benefit. Monk Fists and Staves just have Monk-tailored bonuses. Ideally, you'll be using them mostly later on. I think Blizzard has said they want to adjust animations for Monk attacks with weapons but maybe I'm just wishful thinking rather than remembering.

Until then, dual wield swords and punch things in the face awkwardly~

There's some that are account wide though (blacksmith for example) which I'm now missing. Can't get them again from replaying.

Hope they fix, I don't care much about achievements themselves, but I do want all the sigils and pattern customizations.
Wow, i didn't realize those were account wide. I just discovered I'm missing those achiements as well. What a messed up launch!

yeah.. I used to have days where I would wake up, log on to bnet with a few friends and that was it. back when summer / winter meant no responsibilities

This. I get home from work at 7 pm and can play up to 12 then I get sleepy lol
Weekends are nice though, I don't care about my social life atm so I can play nonstop.

Oh man, I wish I had those kind of friends. My friends (3) just got into my game and started rushing quests while I was complaining that I wanted to check every corner of the game. I'm going to start a new character to play solo tonight.

The game is great but I'm having a lot of video crashing. Every few minutes the screen goes black for 30 seconds or so and it either comes back or my PC crashes completely. My PC is newly built and I have no issues with other games. Argh!

My card is an AMD Radeon HD 6790 running on the 12.3 drivers. This happened with 12.4 drivers as well and even on low settings. The GPU isnt even running hot.

Got enough juice going to your system? That potentially sounds like a power supply issue to me (not enough power or faulty). As the other guy mentioned too, some games really don't like GPU overclocking, so try turning that off as well if you have it cranked up.

Edit: To elaborate on this, the official recommendation for this card is a 500W power supply. That should probably be more than enough, but it's going to depend on what else is running in your system and the relative quality of the power supply itself. If you are running, say, some no-name 450W, that may very well be your issue.

I did the opposite :x My playthrough with my friend will be methodical and listening to dialogue and all that. My solo run is just reading things and rushing hah.

Is there a point to equipping weapons on a monk sincehe uses his fists mainly? Or rather what do weapons do for the monk

Monk damage is still entirely dependent on their equipped weapons. Even if they don't actually appear to use them in their attack animation.

Anyone else getting lag on the EU servers? Getting a ping of about 250+ here and it occasionally gets me killed whne things don't trigger right away (ON my DH)

Um.. try going into D3's settings and turning down your max frame rate. I saw that setting last night (haven't played yet, my key doesn't show up until tonight, heh) and mine was cranked up to 150 fps. I can see that causing issues.

Enjoying the game overall, but kept getting ugly lag spikes all last night. Had to stop at one point because latency hit 353ms.

Story note: I feel like I'm in a saturday morning cartoon. The villains are so cliche, I'm waiting for one to say "I'll get you next time Deckard Cain!" Blizzard needs less talking in their games.

Can we spoiler the gameplay tips in here as well please people, I don't want to know anything about the encounters until they kick my arse.

Yeah I really hope the servers improve by the time I start playing today.

Equipment is confusing for me at low levels as well.

I used to say that when I'd take stuff to Cain in D2 for identifying and I'd end up with garbage rares. +3 Life and Thorns Ring?! DAMN YOU CAIN.

I think there is a spoiler thread, so people should be putting stuff like that in there.
Yeah, I didn't want to sound too fussy. :p

I don't mean the "what kit should I equip" type stuff, but there's very specific advice on how to take down some of the bosses in the last couple of pages.

Same here. :(
Likewise! Not great when I have to be up before 06:00 at the moment either. *yawns*

you probably changed servers somehow. Find the region under settings and change it.

Holy crap, that was it,thanks, freaked out for a bit there lol...just level 11 but I played the beta through all the characters,I really didnt want to restart the section all over again for now hehe...

Equipment is confusing for me at low levels as well.

The easiest way to put it is merely use whatever has the best damage on it (or best stat bonuses). That's it. The Unique weapon types (Monk Fists and Daibo, Wizard Wand and Orbs, etc.) merely are class specific loot that has class specific bonuses.

Loot is pretty streamlined. Use whatever gives you the most damage or stat bonuses. There's no "This is better because it's weapon type X instead of Y" kind of thing.

Will be rocking Wiz and Barb

just started, would be great to have some gaffers to play with.

Requoting myself. How does one go about getting added to the GAF list? (sorry, I'm sure its been asked a billion times)

Didn't follow much of the game leading up to release, but I'm trying out different characters right now. I see the monk thing is addressed above, but the same holds true for the Witch Doctor. I have a sword and shield and spend my time blowgunning enemies to death? Sort of weird that blowguns aren't an equipment type for my class.

And I'm guessing town portals are gone too? Haven't run into those or items that need identification.

Quote that image with your details beneath it (GAF name, tag, location and class) and someone will add it sooner or later - obviously takes a while to get through everyone.

I've seen WD specific items that make more sense, so it'll be resolved later. As will your question about portals, keep playing!

anyone feel like the AH is a little cheap... I mean you can pretty much disregard found items/sell them... and just buy inexpensive rares.

kinda ruins act 1 for me :/

Town portals you get half way through Act I. You need to identify rare and unique items by right clicking on them.

Monks self-healing is insane...it's almost impossible to die on Normal once you get that perk that heals you every time you spend Spirit (forgot the name)

Well that was an interesting experience, was fighting a mini-boss and suddenly I started ... lagging. rubber-banding around in warpfactor 20 and taking damage without being near the guy. I love server dependent SP games ...
