People wouldn't have played Diablo 2 for years if it took years to get single shitty items.
Nobody expects to have their best setup pegged in a matter of days, or maybe even a single piece, but you can't start trading for what you need if you can't even get anything to trade, even shitty things. I'd love for you to go play D2 right now, normal->nightmare->hell in a party (or solo, shit) and get NO unique or set items. Is it possible? sure. is it likely? shit no. Someone that isn't a diablo veteran could legitimately play this game through all 3 non-inferno difficulties and NOT KNOW that items better than rares exist. That's painfully bad.

I feel you man I have played 7 hours and have only gotten 2 rare items and they aren't even that good.

I think they really need to add SOME incentive to reroll. I love the skills system, but adding some sort of permanent customization option that made a small but measurable impact would give players a reason to make new chars.

My biggest fear for this game was the lack of reroll. It makes low level gear worthless pretty fast as people don't reroll and twink themselves like they did in D2. Some of the best fun I had was running a low level toon in way OP gear to try out a specific build.

Personally, I'm fine with rare items actually being rare. It makes awesome items worth more of shit to me, and it makes the auction house worth more to look at, and net you $ because you KNOW it took a lot of time and luck to obtain it.

However, I come from a Final Fantasy XI online mindset, where items worth a shit in that game could take MONTHS to get, but when you obtained it holy shit was it a badge of honor and rewarding.

Why wouldn't there still be rare items? Pulling a Zod rune in D2 is UNGODLY RARE legitimately. That doesn't mean that there aren't an entire array of runes you can get that can also be rare and valuable, though less so. A Stormshield in D3 (which is wickedly good) can be plenty rare even if they put the Arctic furs at a .1% drop off any mob in act 1 normal. It has no effect on that. There's a psychological effect you get from seeing a unique or set item, and identifying it and hoping it's cool. It's a HUGE part of the loot drive in these games, if you never see any of those items you lose that drive.

Like I said, game's been out for two days and I'm already sick to death of fighting tooth and nail against some bullshit Desecrator Vortex Plagued plague spreaders (or whatever those guys in act 3 are) just to get a shitty blue wand that has dexterity and does 50 dps.

This did not happen in D1 or D2. Not to the extent that it was the rule. You won't keep killing shit forever if you never see any reward for it.

There's arguments to be made on both sides.

You could run Mephisto > 100 times in a day and never get anything worthwhile. Sure, you'll get plenty uniques and sets, but nothing good. It's equally frustrating.

No, I'm fairly certain if I ran mephisto 100 times a day and didn't get anything but blues, that would be WAY more frustrating.

I agree. The devs discussed how they wanted item drops to be more distributed throughout the game, and avoid creating the old boss farming runs.

Unrelated to the items issue. Generalization following.
I am going to risk sounding like a jerk for a moment, skip the rest of this post if that might bother you. Heh.

Many of the questions and complaints people seem to be having about this game could all be resolved if you just took some time to read the information that Blizzard has already put out there. Don't complain about something when you as the consumer didn't bother to do any basic research beforehand.

Reading comprehension, kids. Pay attention in school.

It's tough. On one hand that's part what made D2 awesome. On another hand you could do 1-80 in an afternoon in D2, so people didn't care. 1-60 + Inferno won't be done in an afternoon.

My friend was saying this about Wizard. I brought up how elective mode works, and at first I thought he didn't get what I was saying on what it allowed you to do, but he was just adamant there was no reason for Wizard to make use of elective mode yet at his level of 15 I think he was.

Monk I want to use it all. So much good shit. :P

Yeah I am really liking the Monk and his abilities - so glad I went with this class.

My opinion of the DH in solo normal... too much useless skill. :/

Hungering arrow (maybe entangling shot with the 4 targets runes).
Chakram or Multishot
Smoke Screen
Preparation
Vault
Caltrops

7-8 skills viable is not enough. :/

Skills are not fully balanced IMO. THere are MUST HAVES and DO NOT WANTS in almost every class.

A wizard w/o diamond skin is a wizard I'd like to meet for example. Oh and my theory builds never used it but...yeah..now it is like the best skill and only way to survive many situations.

Still trying to figure out why so many people like meteor. I think it is a huge waste of arcane power for the damage and delay it has. Only time I thought of using it was with comet rune.

Your post is super douchey, you're the one that didn't bother to read. What items got spread out again? nobody loots any uniques or set items. SPREAD THE FUCK OUT YEAH!
Nephalem Valor already solves the issue, and it's their intended solution. It rewards you for RUNNING an act. That's great, and as it should be.
However that's an inferno mechanic. On Normal, nightmare, and Hell, your only reward for killing ANYTHING, not just act bosses, are shitty blues you can vendor for 200 gold or turn into mats you don't need. That's just not fun.

Those aren't nearly the only viable skills. Out of those when I play solo I only use Vault and Caltrops. There are plenty of useful skills.

My skills vary, especially on bosses but here's what I'm usually using:
Bola with either rune
Rapid Fire
Caltrops
Vault
Companion (slow with passive + damage to slow) or Mark of Death with Contagion/AoE rune

So we have parallel discussions in this thread; one about how nothing good ever drops, and the other about how the AH is getting flooded with cheap legendaries that will never get removed from the game's economy.

Anyone asking about drop rates: they're dog shit in this game. It's one of my MAJOR complaints. not enough unique/set items at low levels, so you don't have things like arctic furs, sigon's, treads, all that shit to look whet your appetite. Yeah it's a loot game and some stuff needs to be rare, but making it so every single legendary is like a once a year event just doesn't give you enough of a taste for getting excited about killing shit.

When I've killed every boss in this game on the first 3 difficulties multiple times each and NEVER seen anything but a yellow (and even then, only yellows on normal the first time where they're guaranteed. I have NEVER seen an act boss even drop a rare item on NM or Hell. Neither has anyone I play with)....it's a bit fucking stupid. I have one unique, a shit witch doctor mask from a champ group in NM act 1. One of my guildmates has a wizard hat from normal. Everyone else in my wow guild that plays (probably 10 people) and EVERYONE ELSE ON MY FRIENDS LIST (which is a shitton of people) have a combined total of 2 unique items. The vast majority of us are level 60 or nearing it, it's pretty fucking silly.

They really needed MORE unique and set items so that you could have them doled out throughout the game, instead of smashing 90% of them at level 60 required inferno drops. As it is I don't even get excited to kill bosses anymore, it's turned into a sad joke that all you're going to get is some shitty 50 dps normal mode magic item.

Before anyone says 'magic find lol' go look up the items. there are BARELY any uniques or set items to get at all, and in D1 and D2 you would get SOME of this stuff without needing to stack that MF while you levelled.

Game is great, but if people don't get a bone once in a while they won't stay for the real meat and potatoes of item farming.
I agree drop rates low, but I kind of expected them to be at first. They can always adjust them and turn them up, if things are too rare. It is debatable, but I think it is better to have something too rare at first, rather than flood the market with rare items, then turn the drop rates down. With duping out, items are going to seem a lot more rare compared to D2. The lack of set items is disappointing, but hopefully they will address it soon. If we are lucky, they will add new items on a regular basis.

I get more where you are coming from now. Even in my FFXI example, there is rare, great gear you need for your class even at low levels starting around level 7.

The blues/yellows I currently get are good stuff, but a LOT of it gets sold/salvaged. I'd wager 80% of it is. The boss at the end of Act 1 actually dropped 3 yellows and none of them were better than any of my current gear. :(

I am getting this weird sound issue. Basically when a character talks I get way more volume out of the right speaker channel and it is very low on the left. Kind of off-putting. Anyone else have this issue?
I noticed this last night, but I assume it was positional audio?

I totally want to sell just enough stuff in Diablo 3 to be able to transfer $60 to Battle.net to buy Starcraft II. I wonder how easy (or hard) it will be to make obtain that goal.
You can't buy full games with your battlebucks, only certain services. It's listed on the FAQ (that I don't have handy right now). You can transfer the money to Paypal and pay though, but obviously they'll be taking 15%.

I'm avoiding the AH because the satisfaction of seeing a good item drop is what this game is all about, imo.

And the biggest issue?
When you kill that boss on nightmare and hell for the first time you won't even get a yellow. Yellows are ALMOST exciting in the absence of golds and greens. but they don't drop much either, and since they're far more random than unique items it's hard to be excited, you usually get crap like gambler dice with intellect.

I don't buy stuff either at this point. maybe once I hit Inferno but probably not before that. I do sell stuff though. It's a great source of income.

Jeez, I took the picture out. The chat wasn't there on purpose and its goddamn act 1.

This is an excuse how? There's people within even the last 3 pages who mention they have only gotten to play 2 hours of the game so far. Ruining shit for them simply because they aren't able to invest more time to be past Act I is silly.

Either way you took it down. All is well now. Be more careful in the future or stick to the spoiler thread.

Ugh, I'm at the point where I can't upgrade my smith without the pages... apparently the only drop in Nightmare and beyond. I want more crafting stuff!!!

I like the crafting a lot. Dat gambling feeling except it's so much more affordable.

:lol indeed! Creating an item with a bunch of +50 stats only to create another with no stats and a bunch of random stuff.

I remember finding my first green named drop in D2. I was like oh wth is that ?!?.

Now, not so much. Admittely I've filled up with a lot of twinking gear but overall, the loot could be better. I guess the problem with a million players on a linked AH is they have to keep the "cool" stuff super rare or it would flood the game world over time.

What they need to do IMO is up the salavage benefits for the legendaries to remove them from game. Then increase their drop rates for ppl to get the "ohh shiny" moment.

They are missing that atm in this game.

My copy is still sitting on my desk sealed up. I have a monster exam coming this Monday and I promised myself not to play it until after the test. If I start... I know I won't stop. Ultimate willpower battle going on here.

Well, we also have two kinds of players - the jobless troglodytes that are already 60 playing on Inferno, and those that are forced to balance playtime with other responsibilities.

I imagine the low drop rates for end-tier equipment is intended, for whatever reason Blizzard may have. ffs, we're on what, day 3 now? It'll come.

That invisible dye is dumb as shit and is a money sink for no reason, sure they are only 350ish gold but why can't I just hide my helmet or pads like any other RPG for free? Imagine if that crap cost money in Guild Wars 2. The thing is it also costs money to make it visible again.
i can't comment on gw2, but in gw1, dyes were some of the most expensive items (i.e. non-weapons) in the economy. at many points in time they were much more expensive than ecto which were used to craft the most expensive elite armour in the game.

10 characters aren't enough? (each class in normal+hardcore modes)
