I also think some people end up with garbage gear because all they see is the bigger number and then they use it. When you hover over gear it also shows you how much extra life, damgae and protection it gives. Sometimes the bigger damage or armor number is not what you need.

Monks running shit

So beastly; dudes are exploding left and right after a single punch. Seven-Sided Strike is like a freaking nuke :lol

Nightmare and beyond is gonna feel like a kick in the dick

Okay, so my and three of my bestest friends are off to conquer the forces of hell this weekend. We're holding a LAN and just becoming fat and filthy slobs in the process.

Question for those Witch Doctors out there. I've been rolling with the above three bestest friends and we are almost done with Act I. Our group consists of me, the Witch Doctor (DrLush, for those wanting to know), a Monk, a Barbarian, and a Wizard. So, my question is, how would you suggest I spec my Witch Doctor for optimal group synergy?

I'm currently level 13, so not a lot is unlocked, by I am finding it to be a challenge to feel like I am a part of the group. Most of my pets don't make it to the enemies by the time they are destroyed by the Monk & Barb. Dire Bats, Plague of Toads, and Haunt, though awesome spells (imo) just don't seem to do much to compete with the onlsaught my friends bring.

What's your DPS look like? Make sure you're using Soul Harvest in crowds to get a huge Intelligence boost and greatly increase your damage output.

Dire Bats is a very solid attack spell. It has great range, fires quickly if you have decent attack speed, and does good damage. After you've got Soul Harvest going you should be wrecking things with it. Combine that with Splinter Darts as your mana regens and you should be doing very solid damage consistently.

Also in a group try using spells like Grasp of the Dead w/ Unbreakable Grasp to greatly slow enemies down so you and your group can maul them even more quickly. It has a very fast cooldown and good range, and the mana cost at low levels is fairly minimal.

Can't connect to Eu Servers now.

Also, my level 25 monk is 110 dps. All my equipement gives me +10/20/30 dex.

Why so low ? How can people hit 350 dsp at this point ? (end boss of act II) I but be missing something...
Your level is kind of high for the end of act2 normal. More than likely your damage is still low because you havent seen many drops that raise your dps a lot. You can buy the stuff off the AH to make up for lack of equipment, but act3 normal is when I started to see my damage go up a lot equipping drops I found.

Buying your level worth of loot clearly breaks the game :lol. Beat the game with ~600 dps. Decided to check the AH and found a bow for 5000 buyout that is one level below me. +500 dps later and mobs in nightmare are getting sliced through so easily.

I'm on NA with no issues. Don't know what's goin on with EU though.

lol don't log! A buddy is saying the servers are down, and even battle.net won't display.

DPS really starts to explode once you get access to gems.

Before I started using them on my monk I was sitting around 100 or so and that quickly jumped to 250 once I got some equipment with sockets then threw some rubies in.

So I'm enjoying the FUCK out of this game, but how much of it is randomly generated? Is any of it? It's been a long time since I touched Diabo 2, which I mainly played during a four month period when my house was without internet back in high school (late 2003, yes this means I played it single player) and never finished it, but I remember the random generation being much deeper. Then I saw this posted on /v/:

I'm still loving everything about this game, but it does seem a bit like a step down, no? I'm not that far in (barely wrapping up Act I) so maybe it gets much better?

I'm still a bit more excited for Torchlight II. Just really hope that game makes combat feel as intensely satisfying as D3 does.

Was playing last night with my wife and a friend and was getting horrendous lag and random disconnects.

Seeing my wife moving on her screen and getting beat down by the
Butcher
(Act 1 boss) on my screen was pretty funny though.

Dual Wielding weapons, what's the benefit of it of than stat bonuses?

It doesn't seem to increase my DPS as that looks to be determined by your main hand weapon.

The dungeons are still mostly RNG (disconnecting mid-dungeon multiple times, always come back to a brand new layout). Having beat the game on Normal, no dungeons were that complex. But, on Nightmare (and Hell, like in that picture) the dungeons might get more and more complex.

I'm not dual wielding but I believe your DPS alternates between each weap. Dual-wielding also confers a 15% boost to attack speed, which also affects casting speed.

The later acts are much more random. Most of the dungeons in act 2 and 3 look like the screenshot from D2 you posted.

Re: low dmg

Get a ton of +damage items, and get a high level ruby for your weapon, it makes a huge difference. I couldn't trade a +3-6 damage item for a similar one with like +70 dex without going down in damage. That'll change once you start racking up the total dex though, but early on (I'm at nightmare act II) +damage is still king.

+Dmg is such an odd stat. Have a level 11 Necklace with +3-6 damage on my 35 Barb over a level 25 neck with +50 strength and +25 dex.

Just started Hell on my 50 Barbarian; 52 now. Feels good tanking herds of mobs and not dying.

On another note, some of these special mobs are hella annoying...

Invulernable Waller Frozen? WTF?

Arcane Molten Desecrator? WTF?

WTF WTF at knockback stuff with tons of crap.

Hell and Inferno are finger crash courses.
Can you post skill setup? What kind of gear? Sword and board?

Whats the deal with party members of different levels and XP gains.

If 2 level 20's party with a level 7, will the higher level people be penalized? Or just the lower level person?

Math time!

I've seen several people ask about +damage versus +primaryability, here's the scoop.

Suppose you find an item that gives you an average of +D damage.

The percent of extra damage you will get by equiping that item will be:

(((WEAPON DAMAGE + D ) / WEAPON DAMAGE) -1) * 100

where weapon damage is equal to your base weapon damage + all other +damage modifiers you already have.

Now, suppose instead that you equip an item that give you +B bonus primary stat.

Percent of extra damage you get will be:

(((100 + Primary Stat + B) / (100 + Primary Stat) -1) * 100

where Primary stat is equal to your primary stat before equiping the new item (including any other +stat you've already got).

The main observation is that in both cases, you're going to get diminishing returns. If you already have a lot of +Damage, then each additional point will get you propertionally less. The same is true for +attr gear. Basically, you're likely going to want a mix of the 2.

+Dmg is such an odd stat. Have a level 11 Necklace with +3-6 damage on my 35 Barb over a level 25 neck with +50 strength and +25 dex.
If I understand it right, +DMG is multiplied by a lot of things.

200 STR is 200%, or 3x, damage. Times your attack speed, say 1.4.

3-6 DMG suddenly becomes 12.6-25.2. And we're not even including any ability multipliers.

Damage by itself is okay. Damage with your primary stat is nuts.

Not being able to cast your targeted spells at specific locations sounds like it would be the biggest downside to using a controller.
Sure, but it wouldn't ruin the game by any means and there would be plenty of advantages.

As it is, I'm simply not playing as much as I'd like as a result of this. I do most of my playing in the basement on my TV. I can set up a table and have at it, which works, but I prefer to sit back with a pad. My mother in law is in town for another month so I don't really fancy playing Diablo upstairs at the moment. ;)

About damage, not that I need to be doing more at this point, but what can I do to get it up?

I've had no luck with all damage loot (that's the category I was asking about earlier) so I rely entirely on my dex and the rubies in my fists which are both radiants. If I get more socketed equipment I think I could push dex to 550-600. How much would that add roughly?

Going into Nightmare, how much damage should I be doing?

Hopefully that wasn't too many questions

Act 2 Nightmare my DPS was around 700.

Scy had a good post about how +damage is calculated earlier:

scy said:
+2-4 damage Ring means it adds on average 3 Damage per hit. This does not scale with Attack Speed so Faster weapons skew this a bit (e.g., if you have 1.5 Attacks per second, this is +4.5 DPS instead of +3 DPS). For the sake of this example, I'll just stick to 1.0 Attacks per second but felt like mentioning this. So, at 1.0 Attacks per second, this Ring will add, on average, 3 Damage per hit per second or +3 DPS.

Anyway, this +3 Damage is just added directly to your weapon(s) and THEN modified by your Crit Modifiers (which, for low levels, will be something around a +10% increase). Now, assuming you have 100 in your Stat, that whole thing is then multiplied by +100% Damage ... which gets us to around +7-ish DPS.

Yeah mine is right around 600-650 at the start of NM

Once I started focusing on weapon damage and looking for +dmg over INT (for WD), it shot up pretty fast.

I'm frikin enjoying the game so much. Single player

Tried online, got in with a bunch of Asians (I'm assuming from the names characters), none of them was chatting or anything, they rushed through everything and it wasn't fun. I left after 5 minutes and continued my single player campaign

Going back now :)

Is there like a GAF community or something where I can play with you guys? I'm level 8 :P .. Wizard.. I kickass though

How are most of you getting your equipment? Auction House, Drops or Crafting? I've been focusing on crafting but I haven't had as much time as I'd like to play so far so I'm still in ACT I.
