The bosses don't seem to drop any loot on higher end difficulties, just packs and rares and the such, probably to discourage boss rush runs but they could at least drop something of merit. It's kind of silly as is.

I didn't get a single rare from any of the bosses in nightmare. Sucks that you do so much work and get such crap

Do you guys have any Magic Find?

Though I think that in general after you beat bosses the first time their good drops start to become less frequent to limit boss farming.

Edit: beaten by a damn millisecond :p

Im about 54 now, on Hell in the middle of Act 2. At this point the AH is nice, but it still doesnt solve everything, not like it did on Normal and Nightmare. This is still tough as nails even with great gear from the AH. Im just pooling 200k now because I no longer have anything to spend it on.

Didnt Blizz mention that the best loot would come from the elite packs rather than the bosses? It makes sense, I know Im not the only one that noticed some of those yellow packs are way harder than the bosses.

Bosses runs were one of the best things in Diablo 2. I don't know why are they dismissing them this way.

Probably so the end game for people doesn't wind up quite as monotonous. I understand the point of making people explore the game world, the sub-dungeons, etc, I think it's a very good idea to take the focus off the bosses but I think they should have went about it in a slightly different method.

It's not really bothersome in the grand scheme, it's just kind of anti-climactic to drop a big boss and he spews out some gold and a couple of blues.

Consider each Act its own tier of loot. Bosses are merely the gear checks for new loot tiers and nothing more.
Yep, quite true.

Holy shit, the shadow clones on the last boss in Nightmare difficulty were obnoxious as hell. Took like 10 tries to get him down. At least I'm into hell mode though, 5k dps at level 51

Anyone's video cards running at really high temps? I have SLI GTX 580's and I have vsync on, so I am capped at 60 fps, but my temps are reaching the upper 80s and sometimes in the low 90s. I've had my machine lock up once or twice too.

Doesn't happen in any other games. I get 70s in mass effect 3 with 4xSGSSAA. No clue what's up here.

When you have a few Nephalem Valor stacks the superuniques (Skeleton King et al.) drop a rare or two pretty much every time for us on Inferno.

This game.

The wife let me play three hours in a row earlier out of pity for me and I felt "burnt" out after those three hours, I felt satisfied with what I had done.

Two hours later, all I can think about is this game and how I need to play more.

I know that feel man. Just half an hour until I'm set free from work for the weekend.

Was 99/100 kills on treasure goblins for the achievement and decided to chase one in act IV of hardcore mode, right into an ambush of those exploding lunatics =(

I have a GTS 250 running the game at 60 fps with V-sync, and while the temperatures are fine (~70), the fan is really loud. Since neither the temps nor the fps are worrying, I just wear headphones and tune it out.

I've seen a few people having issues with newer cards, though.

It's not fun rushing through the game, at least for me. And definitely don't want to miss out on some optional dungeons and such.

Exactly this. The optional dungeons and events are fucking fun and usually take only a little bit of time out of your day. The chance to get some extra gear and XP is also a bonus. Why rush through normal and be a lower level for nightmare?

That's why I don't open my game up to the public until I'm coming up on a boss.

That said, obviously GAFfers joining up with me is perfectly okay. You guys respect that I want to listen to the dialogue. ;) Strangers can fuck off once the boss is down, though.

exactly!

imo they just built a "press to win" button in there now :( the whole thing that made Diablo special back then was that awesome feeling when you FINALLY found some godlike piece of loot...

nowadays you just buy it like you're buying a couple potions and call it a day...

So mmorpg aren't that bad then yes? :] Most people complain about the grinding in those game, but it's one of the main reason as to why Diablo II lasted as long as it did. Nearly everyone would say: grinding is simply not fun, but then there's always a cost when you eliminate it. The Diablo III AH eliminate a huge part of the grinding required to build yourself a strong set for better or worse...

The idea is that champions are supposed to drop the best loot, unless you've stacked Nepahelm Valor, at which point bosses will be the most lucrative. So just straight boss rushing won't be effective - you have to clear the map.

In other news:

I'm in Act 2 of Nightmare still. I've had to change my build after going through Act 1 with a group. My build now has 3 out of 4 damage abilities being slows/snares along with the passive that increases damage on slowed targets. This is working out pretty well solo. Before I switched to this build, I was dying quite frequently as I have high DPS, but my vitality is a bit anemic, so glass cannon. (I only have around 5k life.) The snare build gives me the room I need to not die.

The rune system is pretty shit. The changes runes introduces are, more often than not, unintersting and don't make a big difference. I'd would've much prefered a classical skill leveling system like in DII or Sacred 2. It gives you a much better sense of progression. In D3 they might as well unlock every skill from the beginning, it wouldn't make a difference at all. It's not like you get stronger through skills. So why not let me choose from the very first moment...

I keep reading this thread, torturing myself. I'm on a business trip in St. Louis and have been all week so I haven't gotten the game yet. I'm here until next Friday... I think I'm going to go out and buy a box version just to torture myself even more...

I can't take it :(

You might want to keep an eye out for a spare retail key in the Buy/Sell/Thread. With any luck, someone might be able to offer you one for a discount within the week.

Yep, the skill system is horrible. D2 for me is superior in nearly every way.

That was me but I tried finding a medium between dps and vitality/armor and I'm happy with current build. I think my dps is around 900. Act 2 boss may give you trouble with low life

Edit: meant to quote guy above you lol.

I wouldn't say horrible but yes it's flawed. Would have liked a deeper system.

The skill system in this game is so much better than D2 I feel. While I agree most skills don't greatly improve by getting different runes, they are different enough to allow players to switch the skills around and it have an impact on your character. Now as to why we don't get them all at the start, well that'd be down right boring!

D1 had its own skill system, D2 has its own skill system and D3 has its own skill system. You get more options and that makes you stronger. Levelling is the progression, skills and abilities are just the bonus on top. I feel better getting skills and runes, mores than getting 1 skill point to make x attack 5% more damaging. Runewords should come back though, since I really miss those. :(

This skill system > D2 to me. It does need one more tier to make it more interesting but D2 is pretty boring to me, no variation after you get the attacks while you get a bunch of variations with this system, Wizard has some nice differences between runes and accommodates some playstyles. I do think scaling with skill points would have been interesting but then it'd lead to too much build talk.

At this point (hell), those "TINY" differences in runes are what make or break builds.
Amazingly well done, Blizzard. Amazing. I love it more and more every day.

Yeah...very thought out, I see. That's exactly what I mean. :(

My top used to be the brightest baby blue, which was cool because it looked like something from Victoria's Secret, but not cool because my hero is a fucking tormented demon stalker.

Rune system is awesome. Love the experimentation that goes on.

I still wish we could allocate our own stats, though. Just allow respecs later on.
