So I thought I joined the aforementioned group and it looks like there's only four members in it and my membership is still pending? Is that right? What's going on there?
A). What's the most fun character for a newcomer (in your opinion) and B). Would someone want to toss some overpowered gear in my mailbox!? Is that how it works?? Thanks for help in advance.
A) Might be Demon Hunter; between the four end game sets, the character does play very differently among them, which means that you can build one set well enough to use to hunt for other sets should you grow to dislike or be bored by what you have. Other classes tend to have only one build/set which clearly outperforms any others, though that doesn't become a concern until you try to climb higher in Greater Rifts (beyond 70 or so at least). If all you care about is raw damage output, Wizard seems to be the leader in this patch, but that's largely thanks to an exploitable bug for how you can cast two spells together without restriction, and each new patch tends to give the DPS crown to a different class.
B) You'd have to leave your contact information here for people to add you, and it would be far better to specify in here what you're looking for rather than hope for random kindness and system generated gifts to come about. It also wouldn't hurt to state if you're open to playing with others or not. Once a friend is added to the game's mail listing, it cannot be removed, so some of us who have a list of 100+ people who never play the game anymore are a bit wary of adding new friends. It can be a bit disheartening to have gifts drop for people who you're not sure you have ever seen play, as well as scroll through a gigantic list of strangers when mailing things.
I'm wondering if I should look into the PS4 version, since I rarely game on PC anyway.
My main concerns right now is probably inventory management and if you can clear GRifts as easy on console as you can on PC.
Is it a different experience? Or is it basically the same with adapted user interface?
It's basically the same, but -
It is a long time since I played on PC but I think it is the same. You will be missing out on seasons though.
- though the only thing you're missing out on lacking seasons is having fresh characters to level up and a leaderboard. The lack of the latter is a bit of a shame, but if you really felt like manually moving gear to another account and deleting your characters, you can accomplish the former if you really felt like it. Or just play Hardcore if you actually like the leveling process in this game. I personally can't stand it.
There are other subtle differences too.
· Public games are basically not an option, because most people in them tend to use hacked gear and gems, the use of which will mean that more experience is shared to you than normal which means that your paragon levels will skyrocket upwards regardless of if you use hacked items yourself. If there is an OT2 to this game, I insist that the subtitle should be
Do not play in public games, because it cannot be stressed enough.
· The controller input method does indeed mean that certain skills and builds are not nearly as useful on console than PC, because you cannot specifically target locations on the map to move to or attack. The game generally does a good enough job of making a proper assumption of your intent, but it can only do so much, particularly for when you are using movement skills like leaps or teleports.
· Nephalem Glory globes. It sounds like a neat idea on paper which would give the game a more offensive and active pace - get a kill streak, get a globe to pick up which flatly doubles your attack power for a limited time. However, and despite Blizzard's insistence to the contrary, this means that the game is balanced around the assumption that you will have the effect in place, which means that all enemy HP values are substantially greater than the PC equivalent. Also, once your streak reaches 400 kills (which isn't that particularly difficult to do in certain circumstances or when playing in groups), the globes stop dropping outright, which means that you have to stop or even port to town to get the kill streak to properly terminate. This weekend, I played in a 4 man group which cleared an 85, and one thing we had to do was collectively port to town once we reached the start of a new level so that our kill streaks would all stop, or else we wouldn't have Glory globes drop, which means we wouldn't have had power to clear the Grift in time.
The inventory management is fine, and arguably easier to use than on PC when it comes to moving items around within your character and among that and your stash. The biggest pain is transferring items or gold with a specific quantity, because the game doesn't allow you to simply scroll between the different numeric columns and change to the desired value. Instead, you have to hold left or right and let it scroll through the single digits one at a time until it scrolls through the tens, then through the hundreds, and so on. It is awful.
It's more similar than different, and overall I think the question largely depends on who you intend to play the game with and on what platform are they playing. If you're never going to play with others, it's probably better off to just stick with PC.
