God damnit.

First off, I think EVERYONE should find the most powerful man in the world's distinct stupidity at times to be disturbing, and not amusing.

Secondly, I'm not a liberal. Quit it with this US vs THEM mentality. There are some of us that would rather not be defined that simply don't like the Bush administration.

Also, with respect to liberals, as opposed to conservatives, apparently not having a sense of humour, where is the conservative equivalent of The Daily Show? Where are the right wing equivalents of David Cross and Al Franken? Why are the hardcore conservatives on this board NEVER FUNNY?

In closing, shut up. Shut up. For the love of God, shut up.

You shut up. Don't tell me what to do.

Your "shows" are amusing. I enjoy the Daily Show myself, god forbid. David Cross is my god. Al Franken? You went to far.

Don't tell me to shut up boy.

Are people really this obviously stupid? So people are saying that on national TV with cameras and pundits and advisors from BOTH side, Kerry was able to stealthily pull out some paper with some secret information it or somehow receive secret signals froms advisors or someone?

Actually, people are saying that he didn't do it stealthily, look at the video it does "look like" he pulls something from his pocket and unfolds it. Note, I don't really think that Kerry cheated, but if you watch the video you can see that it looks like he's pulling something from his coat. Errr, that said, I think this is grasping at straws. What could he possibly have brought to the debate that would have given him a competitive advantage? Weren't the questions predetermined anyway?

IIRC, the media experts were saying that Gore won the debate, but the sighs and body language hurt him badly.

Actually, it was the opposite. The polls of people who watched the first debate showed that Gore was the favorite, but the "he was sighing" stuff got pushed around by the pundits.

I can't believe this thread has so much energy in it... I mean is this REALLY even a consideration?

I find it hilarious that we're still arguing over this when Bush clearly does the same thing at the same time on the other side of the frame.

edit: even the (conservative) New York Post didn't say anything about Bush:

DEM FLASHED 'WRITE' STUFF AT DEBATE

By GERSH KUNTZMAN
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 4, 2004 -- Was John Kerry trying to pull something at the debate last week?
That question was burning up the Internet yesterday after a slo-mo review of the footage showed the Massachusetts senator taking an object out of his right pocket before the first question.

Was it a cheat sheet — as some conservative bloggers claimed — or was it something innocuous?

Either way, it would violate the debate rules agreed to by both campaigns: "No props, notes . . . or other tangible things may be brought into the debate."

Many blogs offered links to the "Pocket-gate" footage. One, INDC Journal, even posted frame-by-frame stills purporting to show Kerry pulling out a notecard and placing it onto the podium.

But the mystery was solved when The Post reviewed a Fox News Channel feed from Thursday's debate: Kerry pulled out . . . a black pen.

Kerry campaign spokesman David Wade remained angry at the bloggers' guilt-by-insinuation.

"The right-wing attack machine will say anything to steal a debate do-over," he said.

"We plead guilty to having a pen."

The Bush campaign did not comment.

second edit: yes the (conservative) is only there to be an ass.

Yes, and I stand by it. Just look how I'm being gang attacked by all these liberals. :p Somone listed, what a few conservatives? This thread alone has 3x as many liberals.

"Today's word is IRONY."

Well should I call it branding? If people keep saying, "Oh typical..you must be this kind of person. Such and such people do such and such. bitch bitch bitch", that's a hasty generalization.

I don't so much as care about him but respect how he handled the country immediately post 9.11. So can you shut up too?

Lets see how Bush handled our country post-9/11.

1. Airport security is still horrible

2. border security is still horrible

3. Anti-terrorism funding for police forces in major cities is still horrible

4. Bush put spin on horrible intelligence (lied? i think so), and took the majority of our resources off of Afghanastan (the real "war on terror") to go bully Iraq.

5. Bin Laden is still free. Apparently Bush is no longer concerned with this.

6. The Taliban still controls a huge portion of Afghanistan

7. Terrorist have flooded into Iraq since our occupation. Killings many U.S. soldiers and Iraqi citizens in the process.

8. Though Bush claims the world is safer without Saddam, one look at the news says otherwise.

9. The U.S. had the world on our side after 9/11, and Bush has flushed that down the toilet.

10. Iraq is currently in a horrible state, and only looking to get worse, while Bush can't admit any mistakes. He constantly refers to Iraq's current state as being succesful.

11. Both Bush and Cheney have used fear tactics to garner votes. Vote right or we'll get hit with a bigger terrorist attack.

12. Cheney still lies to the American public insisting there were WMDs, when it is obvious there wasn't.

13. Don't get me started on non-war issues.

So, what else has Bush done since 9/11? he surely hasn't made good on 99% of his 2000 campaign promises.

And even i am moderately surprised
bush didn't need a cheat sheet...

all he said was "... what sort of message is that? Giving mixed messages! ah. I'm the president , that's my job (state the fucking OBVIOUS!). Put my daughters on a leash..."

There's really no use in reasoning with these fucking idiotic Bush supporters. Bush could eat a fucking live baby on national TV and they'd find a way to make him out to be the best president ever.

***Again, I'm not trying to come off as totally pro-Bush here, just trying to make an honest-to-goodness observation.***

I've seen a lot of the same kind of stuff from Kerry supporters. They'll stand behind anything he says so long as he isn't Bush.

There's big wackos on BOTH sides of the fence. Trasher is a rabid Bush supporter, and he's not the only one, and there's a bunch of people here who are rabid Kerry supporters.

It's just the way life is. Some people believe anything that's dished out to them. It's sad, really.

edit:
I'm also basing this on personal experience. I've got a cousin who is so anti-republican that she'll breathe fire on anyone who utters the word. She goes into a frenzy at the very mention of ideas that are different than hers.

If I could, I'd get a video of her going nuts and post it here. The woman has fire in her eyes. Alas, she lives a few hours away, so I don't see her that often.

And even i am moderately surprised
i simply cannot believe any intellegent person could watch those two debate and think Bush was anything other than a complete mong. sorry.

Bush DID come off like an idiot.

What I think needs to be seen is if he does again for the next two debates, or if it was somehow the design of the people aound him telling him not to talk too much.

These next two debates will be very interesting. They could very well sway my vote.

Then you better be prepared to vote for Kerry. The first debate's focus on foreign policy was, by all indicators and predictions, the debate Bush was supposed to own, the topic with which he was supposed to carry the most strength, and the one where he'd expose Kerry for being weak on terrorism.

Instead, he got his ass handed to him. The next two debates are going to be on domestic policy, issues that Bush is expected to do poorly with because, well, what record of success can he possibly defend?

I expect to laugh hilariously at certain parts during these domestic policy debates... and though I initially wasn't going to watch it I may actually check out the VP debate now...

Based on experience Cheney should win the debate... the thing is... who will care? VP debate.... and?

Yea, what the hell is the point of the VP debates.

It's not like they're anything more than a warm fleshbag unless the president dies, anyway.

warm fleshbag

For some reason I can see Cheney sitting in a darkened room, with a single spotlight illuminating his face from above, his hands gripped in front of him as he evily twitches his fingers and he slowly, and disturbingly, utters the words . . . It is over for you, waaarm fleshbags . . .

OMG, I think I just frightened myself!

I would say a good 90% of the people in this country have no idea what stem cell research really is, and think it's bad because "you kill babies for it."

holy fuck is that freerepublic link someone posted way back scary as shit.

'cheater!'
'OMG notes! cheater! he should be removed from the ballot!'
'____ is reporting it was a pen but NO WAY i see notes!'
'it might be a pen but that's still cheating and kerry should be disqualified!'
'no no no, it's definitely notes.. only Dems in the media think it's a pen'
'this is MUCH worse than watergate!'
'kerry will lose so much support because of this... i knew he had to be cheating to make it look like he won the debate even though we all said Bush won the debate until we found something else to fixate on'

Reading that thread made me feel dirty.

I don't understand why people have a problem with stem cell research, I mean, it seems like it could be a source to cure a lot of diseases.

Plus, who would want to see poor MJF die of parkinsons?

What is funny about it is in the 80's MJF stared as Alex P. Keaton in the sitcom series Family Ties. The character he portrayed was a major conservative. Keaton would be a Bush supporter. MJF seems to be a Kerry supporter. I don't know where the hell I'm trying to go with this.

Then again, I'm just a washed up Back To The Future fan.

I always wonder why scientists can't just create cells.

If they could find a way to do that, they could avoid the whole stem cell issue.

Heh, if science could just create cells they'd be working on curing death, never mind avoiding the stem cell issue. ;)

why don't scientists just create the cure for aids while they're at it...

these aren't just "any" cells, these are cells from the embryonic state.

and i hate when people go, "well, use adult stem cells!" those things are fucking worthless.

And the show often played on the differences between Carter ("gay black guy") and Mayor Winston and Mike. I think the administration in that show definitely leaned right, but was often shown caving in or accepting/understanding the wishes of the left.

Note: I watched an episode of this show every weeknight for the entire summer. That's what happens when you get off work at midnight. Not that I minded, the show's hilarious.

Attacked? At least not me, all I am is examining your arguments.

I was merely trying to show how there are conservatives here on the forum, but apparently you want more evidence. OK, I'll add to the list of conservaties and maybe it will even out: gorgie, xenon, kobun heat, efralope, fusebox, haohmaru, zilch, snapty00, glennzilla69.

If your argument really stands, then the liberals would have a much harder time fighting the argument. On the other hand, don't say that Philipinos were interned with the Japanese... unless you have good evidence to back it up.
