Did Sony already lose next gen with PS6 before it even started?

Dreams of a world where inflated review scores save studios
The console market isn't what it used to be 10 years ago. A standard game system is the only thing Sony has going on for themselves while their games are being released on other systems.
MS on the the other hand has a 2 for 1 game system/ PC hybrid that will play ALL you games.
Nintendo is Nintendo.

And the weekend threads start early

I doubt the PS6 will be $600 with those those gpu-cpu clocks and 30GB of VRAM, Let's be real next-gen consoles will probably gonna start at $750 plus $80-90 games

Sony just doesn't seem to have a future

I said a long time ago that Sony is dominant, but depending on how the winds change they are potentially vulnerable. They didn't lose anything.

Theoretically, if consoles actually do keep declining and have slow adoption with Gen Z, Sony is actually in a weaker position than MS or Nintendo. MS is already set up on PC. They have GP as well. They have several large GAAS games. They have a path forward to survive with a smaller footprint as a 3rd party publisher. They are positioned for cloud, if that ever happens.

Sony is pretty much live or die on their console hardware. They make very expensive games and still have slim margins despite being way out in front in terms of sales. They rely on that passive 30% sales to live. They don't put out nearly enough games to survive as they are as a 3rd party publisher. It would be a catastrophic change across the entire company. They put out 1 game a year, and Nintendo and MS are currently putting out around 8 a year.

So no, they didn't lose anything. But if consoles have some dramatic change, they stand to lose a lot. Nintendo could easily transition to 3rd party and possibly be even bigger than they are now. They don't rely on 3rd party sales. They don't make excessively expensive games, and their games have universal appeal.

It's more fun when they have hope 🍿

PS5 will, unless it's cancelled early due to the pandemic like PS4, is on course to be the second best selling PlayStation console of all time.

Next gen Sony won't have a dedicated home console competitor (first time ever).

Lay off the drugs.

Cloud Gaming is already growing at a much bigger growth rate than most people on forums or gaming circles admit.

Check out this comparison, then tell me if that level of image quality isn't good enough for the casuals. 1440/60 at 30 Mbit Bitrate, or 1080/60 at 20 Mbit Bitrate, and anything below 30 ms ping makes for a very similar experience to buying a Series S console or PS6 Canis.

I'm just gonna say it. The quality of shit posts and bad takes around here have really declined over the last couple years. I put more effort into taking a piss. Though to be fair that may be from kidney stones.

I love the explanation "nintendo is nintendo". That's it, sony is doomed.

They just have more revenue than MS, Actvision and Bethesda together but okay...they are doomed.

Sony lost, Microsoft lost even worse. Nintendo and Valve won by not doing much and making the most profits

I guess I blame Hermen Hulst for doing nothing great for Playstation. The base console didn't have a system seller, and there's a Pro console that doesn't work very well. Concord was dead before launch. Marathon has everything to be another flop... Wolverine could be nice? Yeah, but Infamous nice, not Helldivers 2 nice - the 2009 game achieve a really high bar

Like a bunch of people and myself said before, Playstation is only selling more than Xbox because Microsoft is fucking itself. This generation could easily be the same thing, or even worse, than the early PS3 years

While it appears MS is poised to provide the superior hardware, the price has not yet been announced and also the hardware on paper may have some unknown issues or unforeseen circumstances that cause them to be less desired. Furthermore the Xbox brand itself is in the gutter while the Playstation brand has arguably never been stronger.

I think I'll ride this playstation thing out, see where it takes me. Good luck though.

We don't know valves profit margin as they are private.

Sony just broke profit records and have the highest revenue in console gaming history.

But sure they lost.

if ifs and buts were candy and nuts

All of the above is a complete hypothetical, there is zero evidence that consoles are going anywhere soon and I don't know were you got this consoles are declining from, PlayStation revenues are way up (record breaking for them), Nintendo just beat loads of records with Switch, PS5 is in line to be as successful as PS4 (maybe more so), the only complete failure is MS, and yet, according to you , they are in the best position, or at least better than Sony. And as far as 1 game per year, so far that is true, but that doesn't mean it will stay like that (missteps with GAAS has slowed down development for a good few PlayStation studios), and even with 1 game a year, quality over quantity each and every time for me.

I think you have it in your mind that because MS is going the PC route that everyone will buy that instead of consoles? consoles (by comparison) are cheap, that's the main reason why they sell, one less console, one that has been floundering for a while, isn't going to change that, in fact, due to MS's exit (if that happens) I expect PlayStation to do even better.

PS1 - "Sony is lucky Nintendo used cartridges instead of CDs. Otherwise they wouldn't have won"
PS2 - "Sony is lucky they have a DVD player, otherwise they wouldn't sell like this"
PS3 - "Sony only recovered because they had the cheapest Blu Ray player on the market"
PS4 - "Sony only won because MS fucked up with Xbox One announcement"
PS5 - "Sony is yet again succeeding because MS failed...even though MS had a console selling for 300 bucks, subscriptions that offered games for years, bought Activision and some of the biggest IPs in the market etc"

Man Sony just keeps on winning because everyone else fails and cheer luck...for 30 years. They literally never do things right! It's almost like they don't have all games releasing on their platform and their studios keep making games people like - Helldivers 2, Astrobot, Ghost of Yotei, next year with Wolverine, the Marvel fighting game, GTAVI basically a console exclusive, etc...

Sony wins because they do what matters right: The games. Marketing rights with all biggest IPs (GTA, Fortnite, Genshin, EA Sports and UEFA publicity everywhere, Battlefield, COD), they pay for timed exclusive games that sell to their core market (SH2, FFVII Rebirth etc), they pay for new IPs to be made even if they endup on other platforms (Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin etc), their subscriptions have been pumping some nice offers (i mean...if you subscribe to PS Plus Extra you get games like SH2, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy and all their library from the PS4 and some from the PS5 just like that). The only thing missing is Nintendo games...actually now that's literally it lmao.
