Didn't see any threads for it - PS3 Controller?

So was there anything at TGS regarding the PS3 controller?

Sticking with the same? Changing? Any new pics of the controller?

I'm hoping they get rid of that boomerang and stick with the DS2 design. We got Revolution for bizarre and innovative controllers.

The same controller from E3 was shown but its still listed as concept and developers who show off demos for the PS3 (Kojima and Sega) are still using dual shocks I believe.

The one downfall of the PS3 that we know about so far is the batarang. I don't care who they copy or if they have an original concept as long as we don't see that hideous design.

Batman am cry...

looks hilarious but from people who have actually hold it they say it's very comfortable.

Yeah. I mean you figure for something as important as the MAIN CONTROLLER FOR THE NEXT 5-10 YEARS Sony would be on top of things. I'm pretty sure that design went through a thousand+ people's hands and Sony made adjustments according to their reactions when using it. I'd guess that despite being ugly, it's a fairly good controller.

I don't understand the DS3 hate. I like the aesthetic, it looks far less bulky and edgy than the DS2.

The DS2's form factor was god awful for comfort. The handles were way too fucking short. They weren't handles. They were nubs.

I commend Sony for not just releasing the same goddamn controller again just to please all their fanboys afraid of any change to what they think (for whatever reason) is a "perfect" controller.

Im sure it is comfortable, i personally found the DS2 handles to be too short.

However, its too big in comparison with the console.
The controller itself is actually much smaller than it looks, and that above pic also proves the PS3 console itself is a perfect size.

Look at the size of the demonstrator's hand compared to the controller; it really brings a much better sense of scale than any previous pic:

Can someone link me to an article that gives impressions of this controller? I have hear ZERO first-hand accounts of how it feels. Until I know how comfortable it is, I don't want to give it a thumbs up or down. It does look pretty fucking stupid though. PEACE.

I mean it looks odd, and uncomfortable...but what would concern me more is how it's size and shape make it seem like it would snap like a wishbone if a player were to grip it too hard.

I can't say for sure how I'll like it until I try it but since mostly everyone else is offering an opinion without having tried it, I have to say it looks comfortable to me. Looks really classy as well, I like the design.

I think it's designed in such a way that you don't over-grip the controller, I think Sony are trying to discourage that habit. Not only does it lead to injuries, but the more relaxed you are the better you game.

that's not good at all...

for dwarfed japs maybe but not for my big hands.

I would go with the pre-dual shock controller. I forgot what it was called but the handles were definitely longer. Changes I would make to it would dual rumble of course, all analog buttons, more ergonomic handles like the gamecube's controller. L2 and R2 would be triggers with decent travel, the D pad would be more like the Saturn's pad (Japan), and bluetooth of course. It's a basic controller but I feel that's what manufacturers should provide as a baseline for their customers.

I'm sure it'll be fine as long as they've improved the analogue sticks - that's the one flaw with the D-S range of controllers, the gargantuan dead zone. A D-S with proper triggers & Nintendo style analogue would be more or less perfect. I'm not worried about the general design as I doubt Sony would be stupid enough at this stage to release a controller that's completely un-ergonomic.

Dual Analogue.

PS3's controller seems to be way to small, and my experience with D-pads that are angled, are that they suck.

...Why does it still have the four button d-pad? Aka Sony-Hates-Your-Left-Thumb.

Thank you. I also don't like that angle.

It does kind of feel like the uncommunicative steering feel of a Toyota Camry.. :lol They need to work on that.

Can the DS2 still be used on the ps3, or they ditching it completely?
I personally like the look of it, but from that picture with the hand, that thing seems awfully small.

I've always hated that too. Make it one like the saturn d-pad. It's more comfortable and responsive.

I thought the PS3 controller was huge before, but if that comparison is accurate I can imagine it being comfortable.

Analog sticks and the four face buttons look tiny though.

For the millionth time, Sony dpads are not 4 buttons. They are all one piece, the middle of the dpad is just under the plastic casing of the controller. Also, i find the DualShock2 dpad to be very comfortable to use, i have never had a problem using it with 2d and 3d fighters, and i think it is a better dpad than the ones on the GC and Xbox controllers.

So true.

PS3 controller now a "Conceptual Design"

PS3 Controller "Conceptual Design"
If you haven't heard already, those on the show floor of the Tokyo Game Show 2005 have been quite surprised to visit Sony Computer Entertainment's booth and discover that the PlayStation 3 controller is labeled as a "conceptual design" (view photo below, courtesy Game Watch).

Apparently the company has taken the public's reaction to the Batman-inspired controller to heart and may even be reworking their PlayStation 3 controller options. We'll keep you updated if Sony decides to comment on the matter.

I think it's the best 'all-purpose' controller however I want Sony to make DS3 or whatever they call it better. Thus addressing whatever weaknesses it has. I don't expect them to go the route of the Revolution controller which is pretty radical but not very ergonomic. (IMO: It'll eventually cause carpal tunnel syndrome or repetitive stress injury to the wrist.)

I really hope they stick with this design. Not just because I don't actually mind its look, and I'm sure that it's comfortable, but also to piss a lot of people off. :lol

The PS3 controller was conceptual since it was first shown at E3.

Again, are their any impressions from someone who's actually held it? I find it wierd that 4 months past now, no one outside of Sony has gotten to hold the most important input device for their new system. You'd think they'd want feedback or something. PEACE.

I hope sony wont steal this concept, because that would mean that Rev would be left without anything unique again, thus yet again be killed and even more distant in the console race. Maybe Nintendo should have waited a couple of extra months before showing it?

Nintendo's chance next gen is doing some things diffrently that could make the Rev the 2nd console after those who only buy a PS3 or X360.

Even though I joke about it, I love the boomerang design. It looks like something that could be nice and easy to use. I hope they keep it.

My only wish is that they moved the left analog stick and DPAD around. I hate having the sticks so close when playing first person shooters. At least I can use a keyboard and mouse with PLAYSTATION 3.

i hope they allow DS2 to also be used on PS3. I see no real reason for them not to. the functionality of DS3 looks identical to DS2.

this way, if DS3 bothers a gamer, he can just use his DS2.

That's so retarded, that's like saying I'm one big penis.

I really really really hope Sony changes it's mind about that controller. If they don't, I'll just wait for some good 3rd party controller and switch to that.

woah that awesome! I dont like DS2 cause it's too big for my hands, DS3 will be perfect for my hands!

Come on guys, dont knock it till ya try it. I'm pretty sure Sony isnt dumb enough to make the controller so uncomfortable that its unplayable.
