Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth NA Release Date Announced [Feb 2nd 2016]

I'd be very curious to know what they are looking at in order to be considered a success. I think this game looks really cool, and I'm hoping that it being brought over on PS4 as well will help it overall but I still don't see it doing gangbusters.

I'm hoping their expectations are not unrealistic

Imo at bare minimum it should do twice as much as the number of names on the petition, at generous maximum it should do as much as maybe Toukiden?

So 100k to 300k?

If I'm not wrong the Japanese sales were only 100k+

Maybe, its honestly hard to tell what Namco is considering to be a success these days since they seem far more open to bringing stuff over that most thought would never see the light of day here (seems mostly helped by the success of the PS4 and Sword Art Online) so I think it's a good indication that Namco is being conservative with their estimates for success because I don't think these games would even be coming here otherwise.

I would be shocked if this game sold that well.

Habu did an interview with DualShockers that implied that they want Western sales to match Japanese sales (which I think was ~120,000 units in 10 weeks) in order to consider future localizations.

Still no digital preorder available...

Most likely wont show up until a week before or the day of launch since they keep telling people digital isn't pre-order bonus you get it if you buy it within the month of release.

Also any new word on region locked multiplayer? Would love to play against my JP Version for the MP trophy.

Not long till the games get released, so can't wait.

I do hope that sales are good, so we can get the other Digimon games.

120k for US + EU isn't a tall order so I'm happy they're keeping their expectations in check.

It's depressing that this is the reality for the once rival to Pokemon.

It's never been a sales rival to Pokemon. The best selling game in the series sold like 250k in Japan. And that was all the way back on the PS1. Cyber Sleuth hitting 135k in Japan is a very strong result.

Wow, I didn't think we were going to get this game within a couple weeks. I haven't played a Digimon game since Digimon World Dawn and Digimon World 2, so I'm actually quite interested in preordering this game.

Do you not reckon? Given how Dragon Quest/Tales did on PS4 in their first months, I'm thinking that's a pretty lofty goal.

Didn't Tales sell like 50k in the US in it's first month? I remember it charting alright over in PAL threads so it wouldn't surprise me if it hit another 70k in the EU. And that's not counting digital. DQ Heroes did have an unfortunate sales performance though.

game will be lucky to hit like 30k+ opening month retail
100k+ seems way too optimistic

future games are doomed

Don't forget it's US + Europe. Obviously it's not going to hit 120k in the US alone.

Looking it up, seems you're right, it was 58k in USA in first month.

However, did it do well in PAL? In the UK it charted once (and according to %'s, sold similarly to Xillia) and then disappeared. May have done better in France since they like JRPG's and stuff, but still.

I'd say that Tales has built a fanbase up over numerous new entries in the west though. It's been a long, long time since the last Digimon in the west. Whether that's good or bad or not, I dunno :p

Hmm, Maybe I'm misremembering how it charted in PAL. I don't know, we'll see I guess. Here's hoping it does alright.

Im really holding out that casual gamers/ old digimon fans catch this game and buy it.
Would a commercial on Cartoon Network or something help?

It would help if they dubbed it. I wouldn't expect casual gamers to pick it up with no English voices.

What DLC is going to be important in regards to the story? I don't know yet I can't seem to find a digital pre-order and sony hasn't added one.

It was a rival in the sesne that the anime and cards were popular. The games never touchec pokemo . That being said, as someone who last gave a shit about digimon at the time the first movie released in theatres, but loves jrpgs, is there any thing of value here?

A good RPG with a good roster of old, nostalgic Digimon. If that's your definition of value.

If you don't care about the Digimon, the DLC isn't a big deal, but monsters missing in a monster collecting game isn't insignificant.

I will stress this again since I've seen a lot of people miss this: BlackAgumon/BlackGabumon are not skins, they are two full evolution lines that lead up to Omnimon Zwart. This includes BlackWarGreymon.

Can you really not earn Beelzebumom Blast Mode in the game? Really the only reason I'm considering the digital version on Vita.

Well that and its cheaper.

He's DLC exclusive. If it's like how the Japanese version handled DLC Digimon, there will be a greyed out option on the digivolution screen saying you'll need the DLC to digivolve to him.

The PS4 may not be able to get those 100k+ sales alone. But it does have a Vita version. Even if it is only on PSN. These type of digital only, niche games are the lifeblood of the Vita in the West.

I'm just hoping it sells well enough to get Next Order over here in the states (and possibly a ps4 version) ... i need that game since its the actual sequel to Digimon world 1.

Never underestimate anime fans lol. SAO did get highest selling Vita digital game in 2015 after all.

It's a genuinely good game, especially if you like monster collectors. My biggest gripe with the Japanese version was its easiness, but they are adding difficulty options to this release.

Damn, I've made up my decision. I'm buying the Vita PSN version, I was thinking of importing the Asian English physical version but I want to support the western sales.

Speak with your wallet Vita fans <3

I think you are right about it showing up at the last minute. Hardly anyone knows it is coming out. I'm not sure if NEOGAF can influence much unless they really enjoy it after launch and word of mouth is good. I would love to see it get to 100k.

I guess I will start out on the dififculty one notch above the default setting. I figure that would feel more like what it should naturally play like.
