Digital Foundry: Hands-on with Uncharted: the Nathan Drake Collection

Unreal. Only problem I had with the trilogy was the bullet sponge enemies and the amount of them

I believe they might've rebalanced the enemies as well, but I can't be sure. DigitalFoundry says the overhaul of how UC1 plays is so good that the guy doing the video says he's actually looking forward to the Water Room on Crushing.

Just watched the video summary. Looks like they have done an amazing job. I wish they would have included UC2 multiplayer. Maybe someday :)

Does anyone have a link to a very high quality video that shows the improvement in framerate and resolution? The video link on that site is a poor demonstration of the visual upgrades.

So based on the snippet from the OP, this was without the day one patch? Pretty interesting, means that even straight off the disc it'll run very well indeed.

Object-based motion blur is almost unnoticeable, I guess because of the higher framerate maybe? Is there motion blur in the cut-scenes too btw?

Play the remasters and all is forgiven, friend.
I won't be I'm afraid. Only have an Xbox this gen. Last gen I was too broke to afford two consoles, this time around I don't have enough time to play games to justify another console purchase when saving for a house.

I feel like a bad gamer.

Nice, will be playing through these one day.

Can Bluepoint do a Halo Collection, pretty please and redo CEA art style among other things in the games.

Sony, give these guys Wipeout HD...and KZ2 while you're at it.

Wipeout HD would be tough to improve on, it's already 1080p at 60fps with 3D, the PS4 version might even get rid of that due to that not being the trend anymore. So, obviously bundle 2048 with it as well. Give that game the full HD treatment it deserves.

It's very subtle indeed but it does add to the fluidity. It is not used during cutscenes, which was also true on PS3.

Amazing work; never expected any less from Bluepoint. Just wish other 'remasters', like Dishonored/Prototype collection had the same level of commitment and labour of love that this collection had.

Although one really small gripe, I wonder why the AF isn't at 16x? It's something I've noticed more and more this gen; I could swear that AF has no performance cost at all on PC, or at least very little. Hell, even DmC had no performance cost when it increased the AF. I don't know why devs. undervalue the effect of anisotropic filtering on image quality; it vastly improves it, and to me is one of the most notable things (and this is coming from someone who has never experienced screen tearing, or at least noticed it whilst playing any PS3/4 game.

Gamersyde stream of Uc3 yesterday on castle was nuts, graphics look better than most current games and I'm not joking.

Go see the video.

Bluepoint does it again!

I've never had the chance to play the Uncharted series before, so it's nice to hear the performance is good. I'll definitely be picking this up when I finally get a PS4.

Drake's Fortune had a nice 60fps main menu originally with the sliding artwork and fancy transitions instead of 3D backgrounds in the later games. Drake's Deception's menus looked relatively rough in comparison, maybe due to the rushed development and extra pressure of increased multiplayer menu complexity and Uncharted TV PiP.

So far the UI looks reasonably crisp in the collection, just the Chapter Titles that use a bigger font look blurry.

I except it is because Sony is paying them more and cares more about these remasters than Bethesda does about Dishonored or whoever about Prototype.

Well it had dynamic resolution, 30fps in split screen, tearing and overall fluctuations in it's framerate.

I would pay full price for a digital PS4 version that is locked (DriveclubTM) 60fps/1080p etc.

Didn't Uncharted 3 take ages to update with the time since last checkpoint indicator in the pause menu? Hopefully they fixed that for players unfamiliar with where the checkpoints are.

Also, dark10x, how are the shadows in the three games? From the screenshots in the other thread, the shadows look dithered and a bit low res, but significantly improved from the PS3 versions nevertheless. Is this really the case in the games?

You mean moneyhat them?

Sony don't do that, they only do ethical and friendly partnerships

lol

on topic: Excellent job, yet again BP.

Glad my favorite PS franchise is getting its rightful care. Can't wait to play through these again.

Are the multiple audio options (not language) still in?
Yes, it's in the very thorough video preview.

I wonder if Bluepoint/Naughty Dog recompressed all the audio in max-bitrate ATRAC9 like The Last of Us Remastered.

Apparently the photo mode options are the same as The Last of Us'. The themed borders and filters might still be different.

"Locked" 60fps is impossible without a large amount of performance "waste". Driveclub could have pushed better IQ or lighting if they hadn't gone for 30fps 100% of the time. (I'm not saying they should have, they did the right thing.)

You spelled Dark Souls wrong...

But at least you can play Dark Souls on PC to get better FR/IQ. Demons' on the other hand...

Yeah I know, but TLoU:R was done in house and wasn't outsourced, yet ND were competent and went that extra mile to ensure it was 60fps (however difficulty it was - they could have at least left it at 30fps and upressed everything else and called it a day), yet they strived to do the best they could to remaster the game properly.

Surely it's in the consumer's best interest to at least get a product resembling what it's been advertised to be? I mean a lot of these ports have just been down to sheer laziness and/or pressure from the publishers and it is something that should be addressed.

I mean, if you're going to sell a product to a consumer and label it as a "Definitive edition" or a "remaster", surely act upon that promise, eh?

If you don't mind, why? They've clearly focused their time and effort at being the best at this remastering business, and are indeed the leading company in the field. They hire people who know that all Bluepoint does is remasters, they can probably offer a more stable and better paid position because they deal less with AAA development madness, they know they'll have another contract in the current remaster happy climate etc....

Why would they give that up or even risk it to develop an original game that could badly hurt or completely sink their company if it (or even original game 2 or 3) fails? I'm sure anyone at Bluepoint that wants to make new IP can land a job at Sony or anywhere with their track record.

I couldn't agree with you more. They've found their niche and it's working beautifully for them.

Let's just give them the entire PS3 exclusive library since that's where we're headed.

I....wouldn't actually mind that that. As long as it's Bluepoint that does it (or an external studio known for making great ports/remasters), then it shouldn't be a problem: new games would still be made (it wouldn't hinder the production of them), the remasters wouldn't actually be half assed (if Bluepoint have proven anything, it's that they're competent at what they do and always go that extra mile), and a new audience would get to play games that they did not or couldn't play, whilst giving people the choice to double dip again or not, particularly if they value that 60fps.

That's if they're priced reasonably of course.

If anything, the next step for BluePoint would be a full-on remake of a game.

As amazing as BP is at remastering games, they've never actually done a full-scale remake of a game in the veins of Resident Evil Remake or Twin Snakes.

One game needs Remake: Metal Gear Solid PsOne

More remasters are welcome along with new games that´s how it should be.

Killzone Trilogy please and also Wipeout :D

Damn Bluepoint, You're killing it as usual...

Uncharted Collection will be my first time like TloU.R was, at the time, If only one of them is as good... damn it will be glorious, come the fuck on 7 October !!
