Digital Foundry: Hands-on with Uncharted: the Nathan Drake Collection

Cannot wait to play Bluepoint's remaster of UC4 on PS5. :P

It almost makes you want to buy each console in a generation just to play last gen remasters. That way your first experience with these console exclusive games will be at their very best. Wait for PS5 to play all the good PS4 games.

Well, you'd still be buying every console, just for different reasons.

I'd like them to remaster games before they release :)

I'd love to see them do an original game.

It's mindblowing to me that no one has gone to Bluepoint with a dumptruck full of cash and bought them out yet. Incredibly technically brilliant team working there. Imagine them working with ICE Team/SSM.

There's always the chance they've been offered to be bought and refused.

I wonder if the temptation to work on their own project will become too strong though.
I'd love to see them do an original game.
If you don't mind, why? They've clearly focused their time and effort at being the best at this remastering business, and are indeed the leading company in the field. They hire people who know that all Bluepoint does is remasters, they can probably offer a more stable and better paid position because they deal less with AAA development madness, they know they'll have another contract in the current remaster happy climate etc....

Why would they give that up or even risk it to develop an original game that could badly hurt or completely sink their company if it (or even original game 2 or 3) fails? I'm sure anyone at Bluepoint that wants to make new IP can land a job at Sony or anywhere with their track record.

Also, there is not something like 'locked' you can only cap the frame rate.

Yer, aren't locked at 60 and capped at 60 basically the same thing? Does it just mean that the framerate will not go over 60 but obviously nothing guarantees that there won't be drops?

No, for me locked mean that it's only 60fps, while capped means that it cannot go higher than 60,30 or whatever you capped it at.

Looking forward to it. The only Uncharted I ever played was the demo for the first and the multiplayer beta for the second. Not sure why I never dived in but I guess this year is as good as any. I was really taken aback by the UC4 footage.

I personally hope they're bringing Ico and SotC to PS4 so we can have all three Team Ico games on one platform.

Oh god, that's be perfect.

Kudos Bluepoint, sounds like a fantastic job.

Only shame is that they are not a bigger studio so not all Sony remasters get as much luck.

Players are able to enable object motion blur independently or utilise both object motion blur plus camera blur (just the former is enabled by default). You can disable the effect completely as well, if you prefer. It's an unexpected feature and one we greatly appreciate.

That's pretty cool actually thought it would only be object blur/off. A reminder of the settings screen for this -

Based Bluepoint and Nixxes. They both just keep on rocking.

Does anyone know what Bluepoint is working on right now outside of the Gravity Daze/Rush remaster? Because they should be working on something at all times.

We don't know who is handling the porting of already announced PS4 versions of Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. Chances are high that QD itself is making them so that they can get accustomed to PS4.

Great, I jumped ship from Xbox, never played any of them so this is day one for me. Glad to hear it runs and looks great, can't wait!

I had no concerns when Bluepoint was revealed to be on the job.

Pretty much. It's one of Sony's key franchises and they had the remaster experts on the case. It's in safe hands.

I'm not really in the business of pre-ordering these days, but hopefully I can get a good deal on this when it releases.

Perfection. So good to see games I love so much get this treatment.
They even allow us to customize motion blur.
Based Bluepoint.

I'm so glad that these are the same guys who were put to work on Gravity Rush. I look forward to seeing how much more they can improve what was already a masterpiece.

This sounds like a great collection of remasters. Decent AA with 8 AF.

I feel guilt for missing out on this collection of games :(

Fantastic. Naughty Dog + Bluepoint = incredible things. I platinumed all four Uncharteds and I'm really looking forward to doing it all over again with 1, 2 and 3. Bring on Brutal difficulty!

God damn Bluepoint is on point like usual. Their 360 downport put Respawn's original to shame when you take into account the system they were running on. Glad Sony didn't throw away this collection by giving it to hacks like High Voltage.

Dang. How long did they have to work on this? Seeing as how nd themselves took a long time to port tlou...churning out three games. :0

Finally, anisotropic filtering.

Anyone know if loading times are seamless? I remember you could even skip cutscenes and the next level would already be loaded on PS3.

Yes they are. No texture pop-in either.

One of the previews said switching between the games doesn't have a loading time, so maybe?

Damn, this article sounds really positive of the remastered collection. Can't wait for the full article to see how much work Bluepoint truly put into this remaster. As I've said before, the effort that went into this is far beyond most of their previous works.

Also, nice to hear a good level of AF is in. Hopefully, Uncharted 4 has at least 8x AF as well. It should really be the minimum.
Not just graphics, they also put in a new difficulty mode called Explore for people who want to enjoy the game and story. I'm hoping it reduces the enemy count.

God of War Origins Collection, God of War Collection all on PS3 and MGS HD collection on PS3 as well. The studio is extremely talented at remastering games on new gen platforms!
They also did a hell of a job with the Titanfall 360 demaster.
