DF have done a follow up video following the latest patch which fixes most of the issues.
- Original two issues: Launched with terrible latency and patch 1.1 unlocked FPS, without a proper Performance mode, but it didn't go any beyond 30's.
- Latest patch 1.2
- Jittering screen space bugs noted in launch code are now fixed
- "Blue trees" around the Rifton areas are now fixed and LoD setting has been 'fixed'
- The game is still 53GB in size, far larger than Skyrim on any other platform
- A proper Performance mode added, which runs smooth 60 in places that ran at 30's to 40's indoors or outdoors in exploration
- Odd traversal lurches and streaming hitches still noted here and there, with a frame time spike
- Combat and dragon attacks can still cause drops between 40's to 60's even with the latest patch, this problem is noted more as there's no VRR support on Switch 2 docked mode
- Portable is less of an issue as the native screen supports VRR
- Now the game has a Quality / Performance mode
- Quality mode is 1440p w/ DLSS at 30fps
- Performance mode is dynamic 576p to 1080p, the upper bound really only happens when looking at the sky
- DLSS is doing heavy lifting in the Performance mode, more artifacting and shimmer visible here
- LoD, shadow distance and foliage draw distance is pared back in Performance mode
- SSR and volumetrics are the same quality between Performance and Quality
- Portable mode can drop between 360p to 720p in performance mode with even more pared back foliage draw distance
- Latency is reduced from launch but still notable. Between 70 to 91ms reduction in latency between launch and latest patch.
Verdict:
- Now 'absolutely the best way' to enjoy the game on any Switch platform.
- DF are interested and will be there to cover Fallout 4's Switch 2 port on day 1.
