Digital Foundry: Skyrim - Switch 2 Review - PS5-Level Visuals, Terrible Latency

I'm not defending, I'm remarking the hypocrisy people fascinated by RDR2 when they don't accept same thing from other games.

I mean, have you an example of people that glaze RDR2 while also speaking out against this input lag issue here?

oooor, are these 2 completely different groups of people?

How did that even get past QA?

Even if you have two functioning brain cells, a latency of 200ms+ isn't hard to feel.

there's tons of stuff like that where I wonder if noone involved actually tested the game or played it for more than 1 seconds.

how do you ship a game and forget to turn anisotropic texture filtering on for example? something that according to Digital Foundry happened with multiple games, as they found out by talking to devs about the missing AF in PS4 titles back in the day.

or how is it that devs still fuck up analog aiming? or even simpler things like a menu cursor.

That's not the anniversary version, but the classic one, which is much more similar to the Switch 1 version than the PS5 version in terms of graphics. The PS5 version can't even maintain a stable 60 fps when there are a lot of particle effects on screen, such as dragon flames.
Ofc, but switch2 port should prioritize 60fps at 1080p, that additional 10-20% better graphics isnt worth crazy input lag/halving the framerate :messenger_sunglasses:

It's a big visual upgrade over the Switch 1 version and the loading times are much better but the input lag is completely unacceptable. It also should have a higher frame rate option. They're such a lazy, mediocre developer.

I just tried the new patch. The input latency is better but it's still noticeable in docked mode. Gyro aiming is still not as responsive as I want it to be. Aiming with the analog sticks is fairly ok but I would still like the latency to be reduced further.

You're missing what he is saying. They intentionally designed a 36 year old (the hard life in those times makes that age more like 50 in modern times) Arthur that way to feel heavy on purpose. It's consistent across all platforms.

Yes, Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) has significant input lag, which Rockstar largely intended as a deliberate design choice to emphasize Arthur Morgan's weight, momentum, and the game's realistic, cinematic feel, contrasting with instant-response action games

Skyrim is not designed that way, and is only impacting this one platform.

This is embarrassingly bad.

I remember getting like 70fps on a super shitty work laptop like ten years ago with Skyrim. And I guarantee 100% this isn't a locked 30fps either. It's 22-30fps, "mostly" stable.
I'm pretty sure they mention that they couldn't get the fps to drop from 30fos.

If you think this port sucks ass, just wait till Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition hits Switch 2. We haven't even begun to enter the shithole yet.

Arthur has a huge delay to even start moving. It's not just the animations. Just the animations is like in GTA IV/V and Witcher 3.

"Designed that way."

On PC the input lag can be cut by HALF officially. More with works around. But you say it is designed that way...
Rockstar themselves said it was intentionally designed that way. FFS, man.

Take an L every once in a while, it's good for the soul.

Of course they will come to say " we fucked up" instead of "we designed that way", sure.

Designed both the full and half input lag on PC. So why they designed the "half lag" option? I bet it is because they thought the player could think the "full lag" option is ultra crap and the other is half crap. 🤷‍♂️

Sirs, this is Wendys.

I think we can all agree that Bethesda holds the crown for techinical incompetence for a studio of such prestiege.
