Digital Foundry: The Legend of Zelda Games: Switch 2 Editions vs Original Switch 1 [Sponsored]

It's straight-up lifted from the Direct, but I think in 4K instead of 1080p. Not much to see.

This is by far the worst DF video ever. Heck, there's nothing from DF even it it. It's just the Nintendo promo uploaded in 4K. Very interesting to see Nintendo and DF working together.

WTF.

Sony and Microsoft have been doing it for years, DF is a very good outlet if you feel your hardware is worth talking about.

isn't this literally just a trailer? did Nintendo pay them simply to upload a trailer?

that has to be the weirdest sponsored video I've ever seen...

When i said that DF some seriously questionable relationships with devs and console manufacturers, it ruffled the feathers of some. The simple truth is that DF has now evolved from a tech channel to an ad arm for developers and console manufacturers. They get exclusive content from Nvidia, Microsoft, Sony, now Nintendo. They often hold developer interviews to coincide with game releases. I'm not going to question the quality of their work because it's fantastic. However, they should never be used as reference source for anything. They have compromising relationships with the creators of the products they review.

Hope that boot tastes good at least

I'm not gonna rebuy them as I played both for many hours and had a blast....but not gonna lie it sure would be nice to own both these games in 4k 60fps with all the DLC.

I do wish Nintendo would offer a bundle on these or something, but I understand. I suppose I will definitely be going any upgrade paths that are offered at a reasonable price.

Game looks amazing in 4k, but some people on PC already enjoyed it in that quality. This would be so much bigger if Yuzu and Ryjinx didn't exist.

Unless you sold your copy you don't need to rebuy it just to be clear, it's a $10 upgrade if you don't have NSO.

so I assume you'd say the same about Gamers Nexus then right? never trust their GPU reviews because they had people from Intel on multiple times to show the architecture of the Arc GPUs

can't trust their benchmarks anymore guys, they interviewed the intel dudes!

how does having interviews in any way make it so objective data "should never be used as reference source for anything"?

Gamers Nexus collects objective data. Digital Foundry also collects objective data. The difference is that Gamers Nexus stays in the pocket and discusses the objective data. Digital Foundry speculates, extrapolates, and invents things that their data cannot support.

The tone of digital foundry has shifted over the years from "matter of fact" to "dear diary" and I'm certainly not a fan of it. The switch hasn't released and they're already speculating about a cpu bottleneck problem. They did the same thing with the ps5/series x claiming that there was a cpu bottleneck problem. However if the vast majority of games don't have issues, how can there be a general cpu bottleneck problem? They took the same approach with hardware vrs and that was a bunch of nonsense. Now combine that with the fact that DF refrains from taking a critical approach with creators they have relationships with to avoid affecting those relationships. It becomes entirely suspect.

Like I said, Digital Foundry speculates, extrapolates, and invents things that their data cannot support.

At least it was uploaded with the correct encoders and settings but overall it would have been nice if DF did their own video.

That's probably less than 1% of BoTW/ToTK players. Maybe in gaming forums doesn't have a big impact in the real world… Totally.

I doubt the criminal class count for any more than 1/1000 of the market.

without access to dev tools it is necessary to speculate on some things.

what you are describing can essentially be seen as user error.
the viewer (user) is too stupid to properly interpret what they are saying. if they speculate on things, then that should be seen as speculation... an educated guess. if the viewer then interprets this as a fact, the user is at fault 🤷

Cyberpunk exhibits very similar behaviour during fast traversal on Switch 2, that you'd see on CPU limited system when playing the game.
the game is also very CPU heavy and CPU limited on PS5/SX in performance mode.

which means it's very logical to come to the conclusion that it might be CPU linited during fast traversal.
it's not a confirmation, they never said it's definitely that, but it's an educated guess based on the behaviour of the game on other systems.

again, it's user error if you take any issue with this.
it becomes more and more obvious why silica packets have "do not eat" written on them

Daddy Rich gotta get paid.

I'm usually a fan of DF, but this feels pretty slimy. Nice to see higher quality 4K footage at least, though.

Either way, I won't lie… I'm so insanely excited to replay TotK in 4K. I really loved that game, but the performance was abysmal and affected my enjoyment. (So much so that I ended up playing it on my hacked Switch, just to overclock the game.)

And I'm actually really excited for the stupid map app. I used IGN's map when replaying BotW, and it was useful, but so annoying to actually use. But this app feels like something that should have come out when the games launched.

Accurate. I preferred Digital Foundry when they just focused on the benchmarks and provided technical analysis, but their operation has slowly morphed into providing opinion and speculation first and foremost. Objective benchmarks are now only a small part of what they do. Most of their content is rambling about the week's gaming news or schmoozing with companies and developers that they have a friendly relationship with, which I absolutely do think has affected their judgement. Rich can barely even bring himself to criticize things like Nvidia's pricing these days, because that might affect their exclusive access.

Watching this on my LGC1 55" and it really does look so good. Way better motion clarity. Switch 2 is going to have some really crispy visuals. Odyssey always looked good but it's 900p. Bananza at 4k will be a treat. . Youtube compression will always hide a bit too so I cannot wait to see this hooked up to my TV.

As long as you pay DF, they will say something nice about your product.

This video is a waste of time. I don't trust them one bit. DF stands for = Definitely Funded.

To be honest, I completely ignore DF since that PS5 vs Xbox SX comaprison, where they show a so in your face commercial bias that the f*cking xbox box was visible when the ps5 box was being shredded

I looked like an idiot for several minutes thinking, well, this will be introductory as a reminder or something like that, soon the analysis will begin. Pathetic, I don't know what the hell they were thinking.
