Digital Foundry vs Metro Redux

Those seven years of PS+ at $350 also equate to 504 games to play for free, some of which are on multiple formats, so the number gets even larger! Thanks for pointing out what a super deal that is!

Are those games yours to keep, and do you get to choose them? Free is a bit of a misnomer.

Makes sense, ps4 is about 40% more powerful.

So while people laude Sony for their HW skills, do you really think we don’t know how to build a system optimized for maximizing graphics for programmers? Seriously?

On topic, great that they achieved a nearly "rock solid" 60fps. Played them already on my PC so no buy for me. But it's definitely worth the price.

I preordered this package for only 27 euro for PS4, this has to be the definition of a "steal".

The Gamersyde footage looks so good, that eye candy at native 1080p AND locked 60fps. How?!

Metro Redux is anything but a cash grab, you gotta respect 4A Games.

Where did you order it for €27?

Call of Duty am cry.

4A really went above and beyond with this. It's amazing to see the Bone pulling this kind of detail with a silky smooth framerate.

I remember a thread about the rough working conditions these guys had to deal with in the past. True heroes of game development.

Hope things are better for them now.

I'm can't decide if I want to buy this so I can play comfy couch style.

I have them on PC, but I'm stuck in the swamp on LL lol

I said free to play, not keep. Still far less money than ANY rental service ever, and the guy I responded to gave an example of a person paying $50 for seven years straight. Sorry, but you can't knock the tremendous value being given no matter how many little pro PC fibers are in your body.

Anyways back to the topic on hand, and that's the console comparison of Metro Redux. Didn't realize it's only $50, so I'll probably be dropping my Forza Horizon 2 preorder in favor of this at the Microsoft store. Free $10 gift certificate with preorder to.

Gaming side really should have 2 separate forums. One for console. One for PC. Maybe that would actually decrease the amount of derails "console vs PC" arguments tend to make.

Yeah, I've seen the gameplay. Water doesn't look that bad there. Game just has a more -- next-gen look, if you will -- than Metro, to me.

I think they did a great job on the XB1 version also, seeing that it's a weaker system with slower RAM.

Yeah, they seem to have definitely done a good job on the Xbox One. They got a 37,440 pixel boost with the June XDK, while stabilizing performance. I wouldn't be angry if Halo 5 went with a 1620 x 912 resolution to maintain a 60FPS target while pushing the visuals.

4a improved Metros resolution 12p with the new sdk. Bungie claim they improved destiny from 900p to 1080p with the new sdk. I think Destiny has a great art style, but it's far from a graphics horse.

I feel the opposite About Metro, I Think its a Graphically demanding game. I'm starting to believe Bungie had alot of headroom with the ps4, and they just didn't use it.

Apparently, Destiny, though I fail to see how Bungie got a ~50% increase out of a ~10% performance boost.

Destiny and Diablo 3 both went to 1080p. Destiny is 30fps though and D3 is 60 so it will be interesting to see what the frame rates are like. Metro is also 60 which would explain the difference.

I'd think Bungie possibly could have gone over 900p (but not up to 1080) and therefore decided to leave it at 900 because thats more of a standard resolution?

Either that or those MS engineers worked miracles, or it runs like shit.

We'll find out soon enough

We still have to wait for Destiny to release. Maybe they cut down effects AA AO etc.. If there is parity then yes, there must be headroom on the ps4.

2014, supercharged PC architecture - can't handle tessellation that older machines were capable of handling. Big improvements with this remaster
on consoles... compared to last gen consoles

Well GCN has not very good tessellation performance.

So, uh, is that 'No PC pissing in a console thread' rulesque thing still in effect here?

So it is a OK to shit on PC with a cherry picked scenario, yet it is against the rules to call them out for it?!!

P.S PC should be included when talking about Redux, it is also coming out on it (it is stupid to try to block and dismiss comparisons you do not like, be it XB1 vs PS4 versions or PC version vs console versions).

Doesn't matter. People have already made up their mind and utter "unoptimized" whenever the original is mentioned.

Wasn't there something about the original running as if it were in 3D even while it wasn't and taking double the performance or something to that effect ? And there was a config tweak that needed to be done to properly disable it ? I don't quite remember but maybe someone does.

think I might get this for myself and tell the mate. is this like a Wolfenstein New Order type of game? as in fun single player

BF really struggled to maintain 60fps. Moreso on X1.

Nah, they both drop in different areas, and pretty much even from what I can see in the DF framerate video. Most of the drops come from cinematics anyway which wouldn't affect controls, in fact the tower collapse has more dips on the PS4 side for some reason.

This is probably the first XBO game that pushes 60fps and has higher than 720p resolution. Either they hit 60fps and keep the res at 720p (Killer Instinct, Battlefield 4, CoD:Ghosts, MGS:GZ, etc.) or they hit 1080p but at 30fps, like Tomb Raider and others. Of course I am talking about engines that push visuals like Frostbite, Crystal Engine or 4A Engine; seems like SDK tweaks have allowed to push the framerate to 60 and 900p. I'm just saying this because they make it sound like SDK changes have allowed a boost from 900p to 912p which is a stupid thing to say.

Uh, screen tearing... thats normally a no go for me these days, but i will wait to see how often it happens. If its very, very rare than maybe i will be still there, but if its too offensive i will pass.

Also pretty curious to see how Redux fares against Redux PC and 2033/Last Light PC (especially texture/asset quality).

I remember hearing about it but it was never turned on for me (checked the config file and all that). I think it only turned on for some people under specific circumstances.
