Dishonored - PC performance thread

Nobody hates low-res textures more than me, but in this game it is clear, that they are intentionally blurry to give the game a water-painting kind of look.
 
Anyone know of a fix for the stuttering-hitching when textures load in? It's happening quite a bit for me, especially when I start looking around a new area.

MSAA has gone the way of the dodo as it's not compatible with modern engine rendering techniques, and when they do get it running it doesn't affect all the scene and it's a massive performance hit.

Imo, fuggedabowdit.
 
I can't seem to force AA with my AMD card. I am using CCC, all I did was "override" 2xMSAA. I have only had an AMD card for a month, so I'm not really sure what I could be doing wrong.
 
Downsampled from 2560x1440, FXAA + various texture and shadow .ini tweaks.

locked at 60 fps. No problems whatsoever.

SGSSAA has god awful performance. Plus, it doesn't always make the IQ better. Even with -1000 LOD Bias (along with x4), the edges are noticeably noisy. Not worth it at all.

Nice, Ill run FXAA and maybe some stuff on medium and this should run in 1080p. I never use VSync anyways

That shit does NOT work at all for me with my cheapo chinese monitor (or with my acer monitor) and my 4xxx ati card.

Speaking of which:

AMD Phenom II X3 720 @ 3.5ghz
8GB DDR2
1GB HD4890
1920x1200 on the game monitor, other monitor has just chrome at 1680x1050
Everything on max, SMAA on ultra.

I get like 30fps tops, mostly 20fps.
 
I guess Dishonored has better compatibility, the drivers are improved or simply, the game's shaders just work differently. I forced SGSSAA and it looks amazing. Performance dips aren't so bad, but I still don't like it.
 
Does forcing in Inspector really remove FXAA and MLAA?? or do I have to do that in the .ini file? And if so, where to I find it?

Exodus, it has been a while since I used NVInspector, but to be clear, it works with SLI configs (GTX690) right? I currently have SLI disabled due to stuttering until we get a proper SLI profile..but just curious because I had heard something the inspector was incompatible with something, so just want to be sure.

Using settings found in this thread, game is really well optimized. Thought I'd show a bit further in the game. I seriously don't understand anyone dogging the graphics.

I am thinking of getting this game... would i be better off getting on ps3, or on an i7, but with an Radeon HD 5750? It's a pretty old and crummy card.. (not as old as the ps3, I'll admit :) ).
 
Dishonored looks great and has ran without a single hitch on my system with everything on/up, in-game AA off and ultra SMAA.

Haven't picked the game up, but has anyone been able to run it at 120fps with an OC'd 670? Hopefully I won't have to turn down any settings for that silky smooth gameplay.
 
Anyone having trouble getting Afterburner's OSD to show up in this game? Fraps shows up, but no Afterburner. I'm using the SGSSA setting from the last page on my 580, and everything seems to still be at 60, but I want to monitor the temps some too.

Also wondering if I need to remove the smaa files we were initially using from the directory?
 
If I change the SGSSAA down from 4x to 2x, do I also cut the LOD Bias to -.5?

Also a weird thing where steam pop ups cause the colors to blow out and I have to alt tab out and back in.

MSAA alone doesnt do anything, this game uses deferred rendering techniques so you are actually running with no AA, its just killing performance for fun to fool you into believing you are doing something....curious considering you say its a nice medium? And then comment on the crappiness of MLAA which compared to no AA is much better.

Ill never fully understand PC-GAF.

4xSGSSAA.

2xSGSSAA is comfortable on a Golden GTX570 here, I'll try pushing 4xSGSSAA.
Game so far is good....but im stilly trying to do 3 more Borderlands 2 runs...so i cant really put too much time in...im essentially playing the Prologue and Prison over and over testing AA bits and tweaking settings.

Yep. 2xMSSA+2xSGSSAA = -0.500 LOD Bias, just as 4xMSAA+4xSGSSAA = -1.000 LOD Bias.

Turn off in-game MLAA and FXAA.

Then enable SGSSAA (and MSAA) in Nvidia Inspector. The MSAA and SGSSAA setting should be the same (e.g. 4x or 2x for both).

Negative LOD bias should be -0.5 for 2x and -1.0 for 4x.

Experiment with either 2x or 4x to see what will give you 60 fps.


Here are Nividia Inspector settings. And below is an original sized image wwith 4x SGSSAA and without image downsampling. I see very little aliasing and in game I don't notice any at all.

Cheers. Same. Looks like it is the go-to bit for UE3 games on the ME3/Dishonored engine build.
 
Hmm, maybe it's the artstyle but screens using SGSSAA kinda look blurry.
 
How's this going to run on my 27" iMac in Win 7 bootcamp?

It's a 2.93 QC i7 with 8gb of ram and a ATI Radeon HD 5750 1gb.

Obviously not at native res of course.
