Wasn't a fan, felt like a by the numbers Pixar film and raised the same philosophical questions as a bunch of their previous films.

Just finished watching it. The visuals keep getting better and better. But agree with everything what above said. It’s really about who we are spiritually. Overall I really enjoyed it but it’s not up to the level of the Pixar’s big hitters IMO

Hard to say anything without spoilers.
It’s like Coco but set in America and focused on souls.
Didn’t like it. They should have just stuck to the ‘real world’ setting and look and leave out the cartoony purgatory hijinks as well as the cat sidekick. It’s an adult movie after all; no need to cater to kids. They could have also had a more profound and poignant ending to the movie if they had had the courage, however they didn’t, caving at the final minute of the movie.

It's about finding a purpose in life. With some kind of homage to Spirited Away. It's a good movie. I've watched it with my wife and son.

I just watching this and it was great. I haven't watched other Pixar movies than Toy Story 4 in a long time but this looked interesting.

I liked it, it's not on par with Ratatouille and Finding Nemo, though.
For whatever reason, some of Pixar movies feel very "contained", and not necessarily because they are focused on an inner journey or because there's no exploration, I don't know what it is, it's like there's not enough variety or growth or freshness or I don't know... I felt that in Brave, in Finding Dory, in Onward, the Good Dinossaur... and a little in Inside Out.. I felt a little bit of that in this one too.

Soul is great, but if you look at what WDAS has done since Tangled, to Princess in the Frog, to both Frozens, Moana, and now Raya; they seem to be doing a better job than Pixar has in a long time.

I thought this was going to be more Ratatouille and it ended up being Onward. Do the thing to get to the place to get the thing rinse repeat.

I thought it was very good. The toughest thing to balance in something like this is having the Fantasy world not outshine the real world, and they accomplish that- the New York here is really vibrant and wonderful. I'm excited to see more Co-Director collaborations, and glad that this doesn't have to live up to Monster's Inc or Toy Story in theatre box office-there's room for more movies like this.
That scene where he gets the gig of his life, and then has to figure out what's next? Him standing in his dream suit in the subway? I felt that shit.
I do think the ending was a little...tidy. Don't want to commit to showing if he goes for the band or the school life (with a pretty massive leaning in one direction)? Sure. But having him come back to life takes a lot of the punch out of his "sacrifice". So you can bring this dude back, but not all the historical greats you show? Not Abraham Lincoln?
All i'm saying is, All Dogs Go To Heaven had more trust that kids could handle the concept of death, and that was in the 80's.

I imagine Disney has some general guidelines for their productions re: including some merchandisable characters in each film. Toy Story stars merchandise, for example. I guarantee that's part of the reason why almost every Disney Animation feature has a Cute Animal Sidekick, like Moana's chicken (and the ship of small raiders) and Vanellope in Wreck-it Ralph.

The Human Characters are ugly as fuck. I mean, black people have ugly noses, but they could at least had tried to make them appealing to look at in an animated film for kids.
Amazing! It was pretty deep and the movie to watch this month next to Jingle Jangle! Skip WW84!

Without going into spoilers I'm glad they managed to have black people up front and center for most of the movie, when it wasn't looking like that would be the case based on the trailers.
I loved it. I would put it up there in the top 5 from Pixar, probably closer to 5 than 1 but I dunno. I did a rewatch of all the Pixar movies back in March when shit went down and I feel like my rankings are fresh enough to say it's up there at least.

The Terrys stole the show. I would love for Pixar to explore more experimental art styles. The mostly realistic with cartoony proportions has been their go to look for the majority of their catalog.
With that said, the human character designs for Soul were definitely their best at that direction so far.

I liked it as well. I felt the messaging in the movie was good and illustrated well. I feel that the movie happened to use Black characters primarily as main characters, but not to drive a point about being Black. People will take from that what they want and feel about it what they do. I think the characters were well developed as people and I liked the art style.
Overall, it's a good movie in a time where quality movies are hard to come by. I'm happy to have been able to see it. I would watch it again. It is not up there with some of Pixar's best movies. This story likely could have been told in a Pixar Short nearly as easily. A story like Ratatouille, Toy Story, Cars..etc... those likely could not be told as a short.

I really didn’t find it much of a kids movie. It is a movie that the basic message to me was, life is worth living no matter what type of life it is.
Also I loved the open ended ending. I feel like he chose to teaching over what he thought he wanted.
