Some people here saying it was good, some people saying it was bad.

it wasn't an awful movie. but it wasn't good either. it's something worth watching for free...maybe...if you're really bored.

mulan is another film that would make for a great live action adaptation. especially with this renaissance of female action heroes. but we get...lion king. to hell with disney and favreau.

I'm intrigued but then I went to see the Jungle Book trailer, god the CG looks fucking bad, I hope it's nothing like that.

If it's CGI then I won't even consider watching it. Lion King remains one of if not the best looking Disney movie to date and it's over 20 years old.

I can't stand most CGI and they don't age that well with time like the hand drawn ones.

See, this is how I know I don't know what good CGI is. 'Be heard both Fantastic Beast and Jungle Book CGI looked terrible!and I don't know anymore..... Though I know for damn sure Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had 🔥🔥🔥CGI

It was inevitable. I think Jon favreau is a brilliant mind and I think he's an all around fantastic person. But if there's one thing that's unnecessary, it's rebooting the lion king. It's a shame because I'd like to see more original work from favreau.

What else would it be?

Not sure what to think. Is it with people like the broadway show or animals like the movie? If they go with the animals I'm not sure how that will translate to realistic CGI and such.

You know what I would love Favreau making (apart from magic kingdom)?
Theres an episode of entourage where he wants to direct a movie about Rafael's School of Athens mural.
Its probably my favourite piece of art ever, so I wouod love to watch Favreau making it lol

Still waiting for Mulan.

Hercules when?
Hercules live action would be the best superman movie since the donner ones lol

Original Lion King has a very rigid social structure. It's not going sit well with the current liberal value. They better not get any white actor to voice Mufasa and Simba.

BTW, now that I am older, I know elephants bowing to a lion makes no sensr. Elephant can casually fuck up a lion.

Who voted for these lions, anyway? And what, zebras and antelopes just bow to their oppressors? They really need to check their lion privilege in this new version.

Mulan is a pretty ideal choice for a remake of this style. Female and Chinese lead hits two markets on the rise right now and even though it's a great film it's not usually talked of as a "classic" the way Lion King is, though there would be less apprehension about it.

Not to mention it would be live action while this Lion King update is obviously going to be 100% CG.

This is going to be such a huge movie. Lion King is pretty objectively the most beloved and popular animated film ever made: record home video sales, the 3D re-release is the highest grossing of its kind, and even the musical broke records.

If the quality is there, I think it could easily gross over $700M in America.

I'm a huge lion king fan and looking forward to this, but i'm afraid it will suck. The original has so many good qualities to it. Great story, humor, oh and probably my favorite movie score. Hans Zimmer did some amazing work. I wonder if he would return.

And like others have said please add "he lives in you" in this version. That song touches my soul.

Favreau does some really wide range. Swingers to Iron Man to indies like Chef to Jungle Book. Looks like he's found hi groove for a while though and will be doing Disney films. Good, because he's really great at it.

Of course they would. They won't stop until they ruin every classic. Can't wait for the absolute garbage rendition of the songs -if there are any- like in TJB and the creepy uncanny valley Simba.

A bit of both... On set : people wearing headpieces like in the Broadway show. On screen : CGI

I've been thinking about this movie every day since the announcement.

I seriously feel like this is going to be insanely successful, and it will be the movie that sets the bar. I believe it would be shocking if it doesn't break records and get the highest reviews.

They should have just re released OG Lion King in theaters.

Live Action Disney is pure shit and this will be no different. Kids will still eat it up because they don't know any better.

At least they won't Fuck up my favorite Disney movie The Great Mouse Detective. I don't think anyone at Disney even knows that movie exists lol

As a fan of animation as an art form, I am not thrilled by this trend at all. I think animation loses its own identity when its just being used to ape reality. I'm not interested in seeing a CG faked live action movie copy of an animated classic. Didn't see Jungle Book either.

On the black manes, the mane color is supposedly an indicator of health and behavioral studies showed lionesses preferred dark maned males to light maned males. If lion king were realistic. Scar would have been the king and his blond brother the jealous one.

You will still get a lot of non-photorealistic animation going forward. How else is Disney going to double dip?
