I found the new Jungle Book quite entertaining so I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt. But I'll mirror the consensus here. I bought the classic JB after watching the remake (damnit Disney, your plan worked), and yeah it's not exactly the strongest foundation to draw a movie from, even if it's still charming for the most part. Both versions are still worth a watch because each has its own pros and cons. (Baloo is infinitely better in the original whereas Shere Khan is a joke there compared to the new movie, to mention one).

The Lion King on the other hand is quite a stronger film, so there's a bigger risk of not reaching its heights with a reimagining. Hmmm. I'll stay tuned regardless.

I expect to see the major Disney Renaissance movies remade (Little Mermaid or Aladdin will probably be next).

The latter may be touchy to adapt on account of the Genie's voicework...

Even though they can't reuse Robin Williams' voice for another 20 years or so, I wanna see a reimagining of Alladin, Hollywood style.

Alladin - Ben Affleck
Jasmine - Jennifer Lawrence
Jafar - Robert Downey Jr
Sultan - Seth Rogen

True this may be an issue for remaking Aladdin, but I think if this hypothetical movie were to release in 2020 then no one would really care at that point. They would simply recast as I imagine they will do with all of the other voice actors from the 90s who are still alive.

I was a huge fan of Jungle Book but this sounds awful. The reason Jungle Book worked is because Mowgli was there as a live-action component. This is gonna just be a CGI mess with no point to it.

The Jungle Book was ok, and given that the original animation has aged poorly, a remake was fine.
BUT The Lion King is godammned perfection! The closest possibility to re-imagining has been done with the Broadway play, which was a melding of live and animation. Going fll CGI with life like characters is unecessary and a cash grab.

Terrible news. Had a feeling they would greenlight this movie but didn't think Favreau would actually be up for it

Jungle Book wasn't even that good. But it made some sense since there was a human element to it. Lame ass Disney and Favreau

This is terrible. The Lion King is one of Disney's best animated films and the Jungle Book reimagining was a soulless piece of garbage.

Sad days ahead.

I mean nobody can be surprised by this. Considering how the Jungle Book did and how well the original Lion King did I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. A new Lion King movie was always inevitable

Really hope they get Jeremy Strong to come back as Scar.

The Jungle Book was solid, and I love The Lion King (the musical even more than the movie), and Chef is one of my five or six favorite movies ever, and Favreau directed the G.O.A.T. superhero movie, so...

...I will pay thirteen bucks to see this.

Man ever since they had a few costly flops it feels like Disney has doubled down on some of the most uninspired live action output you can get

Can already see this basura coming a mile away. Cumberbatch scar, idris mufasa, Kevin Hart as Timon, ScarJo Nala

A certified mediocre Favreau movie

I'm conflicted. I thought Jungle Book LA was great, but that's mainly because the original was so shit and outside of a few songs has aged horribly. Lion King however is a classic piece of cinema, not sure how it can be improved.
It'd have to be drastically different, like a live action version of the stage show...but it ain't gonna be that when they've got the director of Jungle Book on board.

Huh, didn't realise The Jungle Book was so successful and well received. Whilst it was technically impressive I thought it lacked the musical charm of the original. Problem is, I'd seen the original a short while before the new one.

I don't even mind the idea of some of these remakes. I'm looking forward to beauty and the beast tbh

But jungle book sucked and I just don't see the point in doing one for the lion king. There is no human character to work with. You're essentially just doing another cartoon remake. And I don't see anything new of worth they can bring to it. Particularly with Favreau behind it.

Would be cool if they get Elton John and Hans Zimmer back for some new stuff tho. That would make this more palatable for sure.

I don't really get the arguement that it needs a human in it for it to be good or make sense. Maybe if the animals acted like animals and didn't talk etc, sure, but in both JB and the Lion King and every other Disney movie with animals as the main character they are human like and relatable, so why does it need that human element?

Mowgli was good in the Jungle Book, but the animal characters were far more interesting. The original Lion King doesn't need a human, we still relate to the characters because the animals themselves, especially Simba have human like feelings and motives. So why can't it work in a new version as long as they manage to make it look good? (that's my fear that they're gonna mess up the design and movements of the lions, Bagheera and Shere Khan didn't move as naturally as the other animals in JB in my opinion).

I honestly don''t understand why a human character is needed for a Disney reimagining to make sense. It's not a live action movie.

robin williams can never be matched, there is no point making an aladin remake, its doa.

thats a horrible cast with the exception of downey jr as jafar, that is interesting. it would have to be a live action film though
