Divinity: Original Sin Beta - Christopher lives to see another day..

I have to wait till my friend logs in and gets me a copy of the game, since he got a two pack.

Won't work. Only one key per account right now, even with two packs, since co-op is disabled in the build. They said they MIGHT give another alpha key to two-pack people, but that isn't decided yet.

The game launched without crashing on my first try! This is already more stable for me than the Dragon Commander Beta :P

Initial notes:
- Take care when doing custom character creation, you get the items/skills from the non-custom character you selected before. I now have a ranger-like char with spells he can't use.
- Min/maxed pyromancer mage seems way OP.
- I like that the option menus are lifted wholesale (including backgrounds) from Dragon Commander :P
- This is really fun.

From what I saw, magic in general is way OP. Specially since you there's no mana and you can just spam stuff.

There was a burning ship in the harbor, so I tried to save it using the freeze spell. Instead I froze one of the bystanders, instantly killing him and turning the whole town against me:

I think you have to use the rain spell(for now, at least).

Yeah, definitely. I tried the Storm spell before, same result as Durante. Expect I electrocuted some villagers. :-)

Edit: pro tip: ctrl + click allows you to destroy crates/barrells/....

Edit2: ... if you don't have the Fireball spell. ;-)

Pah. Clearly those peasants didn't want my help, I'll just have to kill them all.

(It's fun to do batshit crazy stuff without worrying about the consequences, since it's impossible to do a long-term playthrough based on the alpha anyway)

I just used Fireball :O

Those 2 drunk guards were following me, and I moved a crate and let it go (accidentally) right above one of them... (didn't know you could actually drop a crate on someone's head).

Fight initiated and 2 guards less guarding Cyseal. :-)

I know it's an alpha, but the lack of background music is really disconcerting.

EDIT: around 4GB download, I probably won't be able to try it for more than few hours the whole year since I'll be leaving my computer behind for christmas :(

At least the alpha is stable *cough* Dragon Commander beta *cough* so your time, though brief, will be enjoyable.

There's an invisible wall here for whatever reason, I assume it's a bug(horrible steam screenshot incoming):

Well, it is an alpha, I wouldn't be surprised if their methods for barring progress were crude.

... Wonder how seriously I should take the warnings of waiting on the full game. Eh, I'd probably just want to toy with it, maybe post a thought or two if something big comes to mind.

Just saw an amusing bug: every time I decided to change characters my companion would respawn outside of my screen and come rushing back to me.

Balancing paintings...

Anyway... on topic: this house is locked, and afaik I don't have lock picking skills yet, so I teleported Roderick to inside the house (yes, the game lets you do that), but then he decided to rejoin me and ran right through stone wall / a window to take his position right behind me. :-)

You can kick down the door(it explodes), but it takes a while.

I could have sword I tried that. Thanks!

edit: Yeah, it's not working right. Some stuff I can clearly interact with doesn't get highlighted.

Loading just as slow for everyone else? I checked and it is one of the things that needs to be optimized still in the alpha, but if there's something on my end to improve that (other than buying an SSD) that'd help.

A selection of Skyrim's ost has done much to fill the disconnect caused by the lack of background music in the alpha. I only wish that it was a creation of kiril's instead; but the solution is better than playing in a otherwise hollow world.

Also, I know that this is an alpha but magic seems to be a bit overpowered, a flaw that permeates many released RPG's.

Yes, but the slow loading isn't a real surprise for an alpha.

To play this or not to play this. I barely touched Wasteland 2...

Bah, I know I'm weak and I'll be playing Original Sin this weekend.

The game's producer recommends Bolt Thrower as background music, who am I to argue with him?

I'm enjoying it. But it is an alpha so don't be surprised where there are missing aspects of the game. One of which, I found out, is the fog of war is reset every time you load a save.

Really? The Skyrim ost was chosen because I had the files on my desktop when I got annoyed with the lack of background music. Might as well try some death metal.

I love the Codex. But I swear, every time a non-mainstream RPG launches, I always forget to check in to see what the Codex is thinking. Thanks for the heads up though, FACE. It should make the rest of my run more lively.

I put a warning there because some may be put-off by the language.

I was about to ask what that was about. Seemed a bit like a biohazard warning or something.

When it comes to games like this, discussion on the Codex is usually a lot more in-depth than here.

I love the Codex, but it's an acquired taste :p

Edit: Case in point: Their Divinity: OS thread has 200 pages.
