into any online sign-up thing. Receiving things addressed to Mr BonusPoint makes me want to ditch my real name :lol

After email addresses and gamertags and log-ins to every website under the sun, it's a little too late to start thinking about it

Here? Not really.
It's an obvious nickname.

It can be annoying when playing games with voice chat online though.
Some people always feel the need to say my name 20 times Mr. Miyagi style. :lol
Once that wears off people simply address me as Daniel which is great because that's my name.

I also have a few "cool" user names on certain websites. I wish I could change those
My adventure of user names started of in UT2003 (I was late to the PC online business) with Shadow. This evolved into Shadowheart and Shadowsan, as every god damn website and forum on the face of the earth already had a Shadow.

Nowadays it's Danielsan or Danielsan88. If it's a really new site/game/service I always try to get my hands on Daniel or Dan. Don't really care much for the abstract user names any more.

That is awesome. :lol

I went through several over different sites before i got to this one, was originally the name of my WoW character when i changed servers.
The only username i've never thought "wow yeah that's a bit shitty".

I've also found that i've never had a problem being able to get this username anywhere. The only problem i've found is for some reason is that everyone non UK European on WoW can't seem to read, and called me "Cinders".
I started as retro-lover when i first started foruming, on some retro gamer magazine forums and the old official nintendo forums (good lord).
Then i got fed up of it and changed it to AshMat which was just first name/last name. I was asshu on a couple of places for some reason, i think that's only my xfire and steam logon names now.
And then when AshMat got shit (especially as a wow character name), i moved wow servers and needed a name change, so i translated "Ash" into different languages, Cindres is what it spat out in Spanish.

When I first started using the internet I often used the handle "Larz." I regretted that after I learned that it's actually spelled "Lars." :-(

I don't regret the name Trurl, just as long as nobody mistakes me as a Stanislaw Lem buff or anything.

It works on so many levels, and lets me immediately identify my own kind, so I like it.

When I was first learning, and failing to grock Object Oriented Programming I saw this damn error message so many times it burned into my subconscious permanently. But that pain eventually led to understanding and completely changed the way I look at my work/hobby. Its also just a trippy concept when you apply it things outside the realm of programming. So I think of it like a mental tattoo, if anything.

My only problem is that this name is usually taken on other systems besides GAF, so if you see me online, it'll be NullPointer256.

I know.

This was the username I picked for when I submitted random guides to gamefaqs, while my original name here and there was AgriasOaks. I'd like to switch my steam name, but the name I use there has been my only steam name since 2003, so it seems weird not to use it.

Yep, its my old internet handle from like 97. I changed to YobRenoops about 2 years later but for some reason when I signed up to GAF I used ichinisan. Oh well, I can live with the split personality.

Oh yeah, my Steam username changes every 2 weeks these days. Though i put it back to Cindres for now, i went through random characters with appropriate profile pics.
Senor Ding Dong (simpsons)
Angus McHaggis (simpsons)
The Wigsphere (simpsons)
Mrs Nesbit (Toy Story 1)

Same Agrias as Final Fantasy Tactics?
Im no RPG player, but FFT is a great great game. And Agrias a kickass character.

I'd change it if I was creative enough to think of something better. At the very least get rid of the R_ out of my name.

My username probably makes people think I'm the equivalent of Xx MurderFace xX or something since I use awkward letters...but I came up with this handle when I was in freshman year of high school...so yeah...

It's nice because it's mine, and I don't really need to worry about people signing up for new web services with my handle because it isn't generic.

I think visually it looks nice, too.

Interesting that most people on the forum don't refer to me in nickname form (Rube) like everyone seems to do in online games that I play with, but perhaps that's because I'm either not enough of a family name around here or it's not as obvious a shortcut to take when you're typing versus talking.

...either way...I don't think I'll be changing it.

This has been my screenname since back in the day on AOL (in the '90s). So I just stick with it. It's the same for everything: GAF, PSN, XBL, giantbomb, gamespot, etc.

But yeah, I wish I was more creative and thought of something better back then.

My username was PirateSean - because as a kid, my grandad reminded me of a pirate :/ Anyway, I soon realised probably not the best username for a gaming forum, and a mod kindly changed it for me.

I've used elseanio since being on a Weezer forum, as a variant of El Scorcho.

Yeah, shouldn't have been lazy and used my college id...

I suppose in case a mod is feeling extra generous, I'd love for my name to be something more intelligible/pronounceable, like... dpowell

I just hate it when people call me "Powel". ><

i've been either scorcho or elscorcho in a couple of places since sometime in 98, i think.

man i feel old.

I just awoke to find my name changed, I'm not sure who did it, but I thank you greatly.
Just the caps changed, right?

stuburns -> StuBurns?

People never get my name.

MThanded = empty handed . Been in a lot of threads where people have an epiphany and realize what it means eventually :lol

Yeah, for some reason people don't click it's my name, they think it's some strange misspelling of stubborn, probably because of the way I post I guess.

I had originally signed up under my normal forum tag about 4 years ago. That name sat there for over 2 years without even getting junior status although I lurked the entire time. Then about a year ago the registrations were lost and I was told to re-apply. I picked a different name to try and shake the bad luck and was approved as a junior less than a month later.

Was it my first choice? No. Do I regret the name? No.

Maybe something less literal. And less tied into my alma mater.

jon bones was my nickname from my freshman year of college and i love it... something very personal and intimate about having all your friends call you "bonesss" and "jon bones!" and the like.

:D

edit: i just wish whatever fucking douche took 'jon bones' as an xbox live SILVER member would just give it the fuck up already. "cool calm jon" is an awesome gamertag but i want "jon bones" for everything.

god damnit i still get angry about that and i don't even play video games these days :lol

Yes but I got used to it. It's a stupid nick from ages ago when me and my sister first registered on some forum in 2001 together with one account. We quickly figured out that you could have two accounts on one pc, though so there I was with a sort of schizophrenic nickname. ;D So it's a mix of German (die=the) and nerd nonsense (Nintendo gamers).

I've been using Snytbaggen as a username for several years, and that was that I registered first here on NeoGAF. But after about half a year waiting for approval I came to the conclusion that my account had somehow vanished or had been forgotten, so I registered again with a new mail and this username instead. By the way, when this account was approved I got a mail saying my first account wasn't approved, so I don't have double accounts here. If a mod/admin sees this and is in a good mood, please change my name :D

I fucking hate it and have been using it for years.

I breed snakes as a hobby anerythrism is my favorite color mutation. It actually a pretty unpopular mutation people use it as almost an ingredient to make Snows and Ghosts.

I have been carrying it around for years, I use it on Live an PSN, nobody can pronounce it.

I really love mine. I first came up with this name when I signed up for Xbox Live a few years ago- I tried to come up with most ironic, ridiculous Gamertag I could think of.

Now I adore it. I actually don't play online much, but I got way into Gears of War for a couple of weeks back when it first came out. I remember being in lobbies before the game started- on more than one occasion everyone in the lobby would start chanting
'Whoomp! There it is!' in unison. I've also had people chant it when killing me in competitive games.

Fun stuff.
