Why "in Italy"? That's also mostly the case in other countries. Heck, I would never use a spoon (or chopsticks) for spaghetti. Same with rice, forks all the way.
The hell?
How would you scratch the plate with a fork? The spoon with spaghetti is an etiquette thing to control the twirling and to avoid scratching the plate.
Chopstick section in the silverware drawer for foods that you would eat with chopsticks. It's pretty normal for people in coastal CA to know how to use chopsticks even if they aren't Asian/Asian American, though.
Whenever I try to hold chopsticks, the muscles in my hand spasm.
R-Really? Cuz that'd be pretty awesome.
because eating rice with chopsticks is still faster than eating rice with a spoonHm why use a fork for rice? Why not a spoon
Btw I eat sushi with my fingers![]()

Maybe you can't...You can't really eat noodles with your hands...
it's pretty simple mathematics
a normal spoon can only hold so much rice which isn't a mouthful, so you need to spoon a few times to even chew with maximum mouth capacity
with chopsticks you just need to shove the rice until your mouth is full and start chewing
it's like the difference between a ferrari and a beetle
what are you a savageYou can shovel with a spoon as well. You just pull the same bowl tilt and shovel. The only real question is how fast can you chew and swallow.
No cheating.

Unless your rice is very sticky, a fork (not spork) can not scoop the rice.

Like for any given meal in their home, or do they assimilate and use silverware?
Honest question.

If this were true people wouldn't be talking about how they use forks or chopsticks to eat rice. Some people have preferences influenced by how they were taught by their parents, who were influenced by their parents and etcWhy would ethnicity have any bearing on how you eat?
The utensils you use are determined by the type of food you're eating, not by the country your ancestors came from.
No they bow and clap afterSporks and clapping.

I don't think they do. It just wouldn't work for some dishes. Imagine trying to eat cereal or some other thing with chopsticks.
You know what makes for a good spoon? Tortillas.
How would you scratch the plate with a fork?
What a savage. You use a fork and knife on a pizza!
For me it depends on what kind of food. There is no one size fits all utensil.

I never do at home but I will at restaurants.
Have you heard of forks?90% of the time. How else do you eat rice and noodle with? Spoon?
edit: when I eat lunch at work I use spoon. I think chopstick doesn't work well with boxy shape lunchbox.
Several people have said this. What is it about the restaurant environment that makes you use the chopsticks but not at home?
How has this thread lasted so long
It just seems absurd that this shit has lasted this longWhat, you think this is the first thread on GAF where white people tell Asians who use chopsticks that their dining utensils are inferior?
