Do PC games have area standards/lockouts??

Not relevant to this game, but many Japanese games require Japanese codepage support from the OS, it's worth noting.

only for the install...

I never understood why Microsoft never unified Windows so that the same OS could be used for any region. Is it a business reason? Some other reason?

I can't see it being a technical reason since OSX allows you to set internationalization settings at a per application basis (which is really awesome if I want to run some obscure Japanese program but not change my whole system just to run that one app).

One reason could be space, and bloat, though lord knows Windows is bloated as it is. But you can install various langauges and Asian packs off the CD if you want, and the odds of somebody needing them are slim, so maybe it's better this way?

Yay, I won.

Alpha Centauri's FUCKING expansion pack is finally mine.

If you look up Alpha Centauri Alien Crossfire, you wont find it on ebay.

got the last one :)

Although there's no region lock-out on PC games, addons and patches are often tied to whichever version you buy, so keep that in mind.
