Do people even remember phone numbers anymore?

I remember basically some of the phone numbers I memorized before I got a cell phone (in the 90's). I do recognize some work related numbers though if they're calling me.

My mom has a diary for all the numbers and has had it before the rise of smartphones. This reminds me I should keep one too. Still have an old book of all my contacts from Saudi Arabia as a teen, it has a dinosaur on the cover. Should check if I have the number of a girl I used to like :P

I've had my number for like, 2 years now and I don't even know it.
The only number I remember is the work number because I used to call it all the time when I was younger.

Nope. If I lose my phone, it's a wrap. It took me weeks to commit my wife's number to memory. I barely know my number.

I still remember past home lines of friends parents houses and things like that. But I don't even know my own cell phone number now.

I remember all my everyday contacts' numbers because I have a shitty prepaid phone and will use my work and home phones to call people as often as possible.

I can't even remember my own phone number let alone someone else's. Well I know my mom's home number just because its been the same my whole life but I would never call her on that number anyway.

I can remember pretty much all the phone numbers from before the smartphone era. Back then the numbers used to be shown on screen more often. Since everything's synced with gmail contacts and gets automatically synced to every phone I'll own there's no reason to memorise new ones anymore, but i still remember the ones of my friends from the time before then.

I know Mine, My mothers, and my fathers. And I only know those last two because I had them when I was a kid. I don't even know my own wife's number.

I remember my parents' home number since I grew up with it and my cell phone. I can barely remember my own work number tbh. I don't know my wife's numbers. :lol

I purposefully memorise family, friends and some key services. After all if your phone/battery dies what would you do in an emergency? I've always found sequences of numbers easy to memorise though, so there's that.

I know mine and my parents. iCloud stores all your contacts, so even if I lost my phone (its practically cemented on my hand) I could just go online.

Only number i know is my mom and dad's home phone. But i keep back-ups of my contact lists, so i'm not really worried about losing my contacts.

This. I don't even know my wife's or brother's phone numbers. I just keep them in my phone and keep my phone synced with my google account. If I ever lose my phone or it dies, I still have the internet backup. If I'm ever without internet, I still have my phone. The odds of losing both in a single day are miniscule.

I know my parents home phone...but I should probably try and remember more.

No, it's shocking when you're faced with it due to a broken phone.

It also took me a bit to remember my new number after I switched to att. The windows phone I got doesn't even list my number anywhere in a deep menu.

I had to give my own phone number to a doctor call-back service the other day, and I was a bit out of it and knew I'd mixed up the numbers, so I called them back. Good thing, because they had messed up the part of it I'd gotten right.

I think anyone who doesn't know a few important numbers by heart (ie. family+close friends) is pretty damn irresponsible. You never know when you might end up in a tough spot without your cell phone (ie. dead battery/broken/lost/stolen). Access to internet is not always a given.
